    Q
Can Advion Fire Ant Bait be used on a garden plot before any plants go in the ground?
Can Advion be broadcast several weeks before garden plants go in? If not, will spreading Advion around the outskirts of the garden dirt kill the ants (many small mounts) that are actually in the garden plot. Nothing is planted yet
    A

Advion Fire Ant Bait can not be used in the soil where you are going to plant but can be used around the perimeter and will help with ants.

    Q
What setting is used for a Scotts spreader for Advion Fire Ant Bait?
    A

You do not have to have a broadcast spreader to apply Advion Fire Ant Bait though it can make the application a bit easier for you. You can simply just sprinkle the bait around (not on) the mounds as directed on the product label. As long as the spreader you have can be calibrated to spread the small amount needed per acre you could use it. Please contact the manfacturer of the spreader for specific settings.

    Q
Can Advion Fire Ant Bait be applied if an irrigation system will water the area within 24 hours after the application?
    A

For best results, Advion Fire Ant Bait should be applied when rainfall or irrigation is not expected for atleast 4 hours after the application. Per the product label, rainfall or irrigation within 2 to 3 hours after application may reduce effectiveness and a repeat application within 7 days may be necessary to achieve the desired level of control. Do not apply if the area to be treated is wet with dew, irrigation or rainfall.

    Q
Why do you say Advion Fire Ant Bait can’t be resolved in water
I read on a web sight that Advion Fire Ant Bait can be resolved in water and put down with a sprayer
    A

Advion Fire Ant Bait is not designed to be dissolved in water. Application instructions per the label are below.  It is a dry bait granule that is spread.

    SPECIFIC USE DIRECTIONS:

    1. Broadcast Treatments: Make application with broadcast equipment capable of applying 1.5 pounds of ADVION fire ant bait per acre. Calibrate and adjust equipment prior to application to ensure that the proper rate of product will be applied. Retreat after 12-16 weeks if needed.
    2. Individual Mound Treatments: Do not disturb the mound. Do not apply to tops of mound. Apply 4 level tablespoons (0.5 oz) of ADVION fire ant bait per mound, uniformly distributing the product 3-4 feet around the mound. Retreat after 12-16 weeks if needed. Individual mound treatments.

    Q
If Extinguish Plus did OK but did an incomplete job, should I then try Advion?
I know I could apply another round of Extinguish Plus, but I thought a different bait might be better as a second application. Taming a 10-acre horse pasture that has not been treated for fire ants in the past 10 years
    A

Advion Fire Ant Bait does have a different active ingredient than Extinguish Plus. So using it would give you different results. The Advion Fire Ant Bait can also be applied year-round, while you don't want to apply the Extinguish Plus during the late fall and winter months.

    Q
Do Advion fire ant bait broadcast treatments prevent mounds from forming?
    A

Advion Fire Ant Bait is a great product for the control of existing ant populations, but it would not be looked at as a product that would prevent mounds from forming. Many ant colonies, including fire ants, will have their colonies start below the soil surface and move onto the property underground before the mound makes its way to the surface where it is visible. Using residual insecticide sprays or granules in the yard would be a more effective method to try and prevent ant colonies from growing in number quickly.

    Q
How soon after applying Advion Fire Ant Bait can I treat my lawn with Demon Max for mosquitoes, earwigs and spiders? I also want to apply a Weed N Feed, will any of these conflict with one another?
Fire ants are all over my Texas lawn and I've already treated with Demon Max inside cracks and crevices, along baseboards and the exterior perimeter foundation. I want to use Advion Fire Ant Bait for the Fire Ants and treat the entire lawn also with Demon Max. Are there issues or conflicting applications with any of these treatments.
    A

In regards to using baits and insecticides, Demon Max and Advion Fire Ant Bait applications need to be applied in different areas in order to keep the insecticide from contaminating the bait. There are no issues with apply a Weed n Feed and insecticide together as one is for turf and one is for insects.

We would recommend using Advion Fire Ant Bait for treating fire ant mounds individually or as a broadcast application over the entire lawn and using Demon Max for residual control on exterior foundation, around windows, doors, under sofits and eaves but also spraying the upper and lower foliage of bushes, trees, shrubs, etc in landscape beds and wooded areas around the home.

Review the Advion Fire Ant Bait product label for mound and broadcast rates.

Keep in mind, Demon Max is oil based so it can stain surfaces, siding, etc and also burn foliage if applied during the heat of the day or mixed stronger than the product label recommends.

    Q
Is this harmful for dogs and kids?
    A
Advion Fire Ant Bait is safe for both pets and children when used as directed.  When you apply the product properly in a broadcast application, you only have to keep the pets and children out of the area during the application. Once the product is broadcast, only a very minute amount will be available (and a child or dog would be very hard pressed to even find that amount in a broadcast application), which would not be enough to harm your dogs or child. The product SDS also says that the product is not likely to be hazardous if inhaled or swallowed or if it comes into contact with skin.

    Q
I have treated 1 fire ant hill 3 times with Advion, but the ants are still in the nest. Do I need to treat it again?
Six nests were treated, with all nests showing no fire ants.
    A

Before treating again with the Advion Fire Ant Bait, we recommend testing to see if they are foraging for food at this time. Usually, in the fall and winter, they are less likely to forage for bait. Place a regular potato chip near the mound without disturbing it. If the fire ants are attracted, we recommend reapplying the bait as directed, no sooner than 7 days from the initial application. Please take a few moments to review our treatment and prevention tips here.

Indoor applications can include cracks and crevices along walls or floors, in and around furniture and cabinetry, behind or under appliances, around sinks, within or near garbage collection areas, and in attics and crawl spaces.
