Product Overview

Alligare Triclopyr 4 is an oil-soluble herbicide that controls unwanted woody plants and perennial and annual broadleaf weeds. The active ingredient triclopyr is highly effective in controlling difficult weeds like Canada thistle, gallberry, salt cedar, and wax myrtle. It may be applied through ground or aerial applications. This powerful selective herbicide is specially formulated to easily dilute with water or to be used as an oil-water emulsion. It has less impact on grasses and can be used as foliar and basal treatments. Ideal for use on rangeland, forests, grass pastures, industrial manufacturing and storage sites, fence rows, rights-of-way, ornamental turf, non-crop areas around the farm, grazing areas and establishment, and maintenance of wildlife openings. Ideal for restoring pastures and a solution to seasonably dry wetlands. Compare to Garlon 4 or Remedy.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

Do not apply this product in a way that will contact workers or other persons, either directly or through drift. Only protected handlers may be in the area during application. For any requirements specific to your State or Tribe, consult the agency responsible for pesticide regulation.

Use Precautions

  • Local conditions may affect the use of herbicides. Consult your local specialist for advice in selecting treatments from this label to best fit local conditions.
  • Avoid direct application to Christmas trees as conifer injury may result. When treating unwanted vegetation in Christmas tree plantations, use sprays directed away from conifers.
  • While Alligare Triclopyr 4 is formulated as a low volatile ester, the combination of spray contact with impervious surfaces (such as roads and rocks) and increasing ambient air temperatures may result in an increase in the volatility potential for this herbicide, increasing risk for off-target injury to sensitive crops such as grapes and tomatoes.
  • Use of this product in certain portions of California, Oregon, and Washington is subject to the January 22, 2004 Order for injunctive relief in Washington Toxics Coalition, et. al. v. EP, C01-0132C, (W.D. WA).

  • Do not apply to exposed roots of shallow-rooted trees and shrubs.
  • Do not to golf course greens.
  • Do not apply more than 2 quarts per acre in a single application when spot treating.
  • On use sites other than grazable areas and forestry sites, do not apply more than 8 lbs. ae per acre per year of triclopyr (8 quarts/A/yr Alligare Triclopyr 4).
  • On use sites that may be grazed, including rights-of-way, pasture, fence rows, and rangeland, do not apply more than 2 lbs. ae per acre per year of triclopyr (2 quarts./A/yr of Alligare Triclopyr 4)

  • Do not apply through any type of irrigation system.
  • Do not apply to ditches used to transport irrigation water. Do not apply where runoff or irrigation water may flow onto agricultural land as injury to crops may result.
  • It is permissible to treat non-irrigation ditch banks, seasonably dry wetlands, floodplains, deltas, marshes, swamps, bogs and transitional areas between upland and lowland sites. Do not apply to open water such as lakes, reservoirs, rivers, streams, creeks, saltwater bays, or estuaries.
  • Do not apply this product through mist blowers unless a drift control additive, high viscosity inverting system, or equivalent is used to control spray drift.
  • Do not make direct applications or allow spray mists to drift onto cotton, fruit or orchard trees, shrubs, grapes, peanuts, soybeans, tobacco, vegetable crops, flowers, citrus, or other desirable broadleaf plants.
  • Many forbs (herbaceous broadleafs) are susceptible to Alligare Triclopyr 4. Unless injury or loss of such plants can be tolerated, do not spray pastures containing desirable broadleaf forbs (especially legumes such as clover). After applications, the stand and growth of established grasses are usually improved, especially when rainfall is adequate and grazing is deferred.

  • Portions of grazed areas that intersect treated non-cropland, rights-of-way, and forestry sites may be treated at up to 8 lbs. ae per acre if the area to be treated on the day of the application comprises no more than 10% of the total grazable area.

    Works well but directions unclear

    By Sara on 06/05/2020

As a homeowner, I've tried a number of ways to get rid of creeping charlie with very little success. This product has definitely shown results, although the directions for application are not very clear. It is definitely designed for commercial use so I think most homeowners will have to do some experimenting. I plan to apply again about 30 days after the first application and increase the concentration just slightly. I applied with a hand sprayer and used a surfactant and was mostly pleased with the results.

    Trriclopyr-4

    By Drk on 10/02/2020

I've been looking for an herbicide that will kill the wild violets that are taking over my turf. I followed directions for mixing and applied Triclopyr 4 with a 2 gallon pump up spray bottle. Results: one week later the Violet's leaves are curling and turning yellow, and the grass (Ky Blue + Fescue) is still intact.

    Excellent for basal bark application

    By K on 09/06/2020

When mixed with an oil carrier and applied according to the label instructions this product works very well. Note that it is soil active so try to keep if out of the soil so adjacent plants are not damaged. Also note that it takes up to four months for full effect so be patient.

Wild Violet - Where did you go?

    By John on 09/18/2020

If you want to destroy some wild violet In your lawn, this is your product. I couldn't find where I sprayed the violet after two weeks. My neighbor, who borrowed some, would agree. His yard was 50% violet, which has now been completely eliminated.

    Getting rid of Alianthus suckers

    By Bob on 08/21/2020

This stuff really works! So-called Tree of Heaven and some Black Locust trees were cut down in our yard resulting in annoying suckers that seemed to spring up everywhere. I used a 4:1 mix with kerosene to spray on the leaves of the suckers to eliminate them from our yard. This stuff isn't inexpensive, but it even killed the roots of the suckers, thus making it far easier to pull them up, roots and all. Plus, it didn't kill the nearby bushes.
