  • Asked by Abigail from Willits, Ca

    Q
Since russet mites are systemic, should I do a soil drench with Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide in addition to spraying it?
What is the application rate for an Avid soil drench?
    A

Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide should be applied only as a foliar spray, per the product label, so we do not recommend using this product as a soil drench. It is always recommended to rotate active ingredients to avoid resistance. If you would like to provide us with more information about your situation, we may be able to recommend an alternative product for you. • Asked by Ammon
    11/12/2018
    Q
Should Avid be applied during day or night?
In outdoor ornamental greenhouse should Avid be applied during the active growing cycle (lights on). Or during the sleep cycle (lights off)?
    A

Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide is best applied when the target insects are active and present if possible so you can make direct contact with them, so any time of day/night that you see activity is when you would apply.  Excessive cold or warm temperatures may increase the chance of plant damage following application with oils so avoid applying during the heat of the day or during low temps.

  • Asked by Louise from Farmington, Nh

    Q
    Chicken and Bird Mites?
We have mites, looks like chicken/bird mites in our old wood frame house and we've tried Mother Earth D, Demon, Talstar, Termidor, Excite R and Suspend, but nothing works .. will Avid work or should I be using something else?
    A

We really do not have further advice to offer on this type of mite control We can tell you that Avid is not labeled for indoor mite control in a home. Please take a few moments to read our best information on bird mite control:

It is important to be absolutely sure you are actually dealing with bird mites. Have the suspected bird mite identified by a reputable source, such as your local cooperative extension office or a reputable pest control operator. Treatments will vary for different pests. Treatment for say bedbugs is much different than the treatment for bird mites.  Removal of the infested nest or bird and a thorough cleanup is necessary. For treatment in the home, we recommend you frequently vacuum all carpet and upholstery and dispose of the bag or vacuum contents in a sealed bag outdoors. Spray Sterifab on couches, chairs and other upholstered furniture where you may spend time resting. Use MotherEarth Dust in all cracks and crevices around the perimeter of the room. Apply a thin coat of MotherEarth dust to rugs and carpets. Rake (not sweep) nap back and forth, causing dust to enter rug or carpet. Let product sit overnight. Repeat application as necessary and vacuum every 3 - 4 days for effective control. MotherEarth dust does not have a fast knockdown, it can take several days for insects to die after they contact the dust. Onslaught can be used for a faster knockdown. Thoroughly apply as a fine particle broadcast spray using a hand pump sprayer to infested rugs and carpets and other cracks and crevices around the perimeter of each room. Put all clothes through the dryer on high heat to help kill mites and their eggs.We have had many customers use the above recommendations with great success. Most customers report that it can take several months to get rid of all of the mites. Finding and removing the source of the infestation is very important and is the key to getting rid of the mites for good.

    Q
Will Oroboost aid in Avids success?
    A

You are not required to use a surfactant when using Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide. The product label states that this product has been evaluated for phytotoxicity on a wide range of ornamental plants. However, since all combinations or sequences of pesticide sprays, including surfactants and adjuvants, have not been tested, it is recommended that if you add a surfactant a small area be sprayed first to make certain that no phytotoxicity occurs.
