    Does Avid work for in home bird mite infestation?
    A

    Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide is only for plant infesting mites and cannot be used inside a home for "mites" in general.

    It is important to be absolutely sure you are actually dealing with mites. Have the suspected mite identified by a reputable source, such as your local cooperative extension office? or a reputable pest control operator. Treatments will vary for different pests. Treatment for say bedbugs is much different than the treatment for mites.  If you do indeed have mites, you must first find the source of the infestation, usually a bird nest or a dead rodent on or in the home. Removal of the infested nest or bird and a thorough cleanup is necessary. For treatment in the home, we recommend you frequently vacuum all carpet and upholstery and dispose of the bag or vacuum contents in a sealed bag outdoors. Spray Sterifab? on couches, chairs and other upholstered furniture where you may spend time resting. Use Cimexa Dust? in all cracks and crevices around the perimeter of the room. Apply a thin coat of MotherEarth dust to rugs and carpets. Rake (not sweep) nap back and forth, causing dust to enter rug or carpet. Let product sit overnight. Repeat application as necessary and vacuum every 3 - 4 days for effective control. Cimexa dust does not have a fast knockdown, it can take several days for insects to die after they contact the dust. Onslaught can be used for a faster knockdown. Thoroughly apply as a fine particle broadcast spray using a hand pump sprayer to infested rugs and carpets and other cracks and crevices around the perimeter of each room. Put all clothes through the dryer on high heat to help kill mites and their eggs. We have had many customers use the above recommendations with great success. Most customers report that it can take several months to get rid of all of the mites. Finding and removing the source of the infestation is very important and is the key to getting rid of the mites for good.

    Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide is applied to the foliage and is a translaminar systemic which means it is absorbed by the leaves, not the soil.

    Does Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide need to be used with a surfactant?
    A

    You are not required to use a surfactant when using Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide. The product label states that this product has been evaluated for phytotoxicity on a wide range of ornamental plants. However, since all combinations or sequences of pesticide sprays, including surfactants and adjuvants, have not been tested, it is recommended that if you add a surfactant a small area be sprayed first to make certain that no phytotoxicity occurs.

    Can you apply the Avid 0.15 EC with an inline hose sprayer? If the ratio is .04 oz/gallon how do i mix it?
    Sprayer is not graduated to those small increments. I have to treat two 25 ft. junipers. What is the best way to do this?

    Normally if the mixture is too low you would not be able to use this product in a hose end type sprayer and something like a backpack sprayer that has a reach with its stream closer to 20 feet would be preferred. You can contact the manufacturer to see if you can dilute the avid in water first in the hose reservoir and have it not affect the application rate. You can reach Syngenta at 1-866-796-4368.

    Avid 015 EC is not labeled for use on tomato plants. We recommend using Mite-E-oil on edible plants such as tomato plants.

    Is there danger of burning if I spray this product during very warm weather?
    I've been told my spider mites thrive in hot, dry weather, but I shouldn't spray them when it is hot and dry, because the spray will damage the trees (alberta pines). Seems like the time to kill them is when they are active--I'm confused. Have not seen this product before and am interested. Thanks

    According to the label on Avid Miticide, Excessive cold or warm temperatures may increase the chance of plant damage following application with oils. We would recommend contacting your local extension office to help with a proper time of day to apply the product. Every county has an extension office that is run by your University System. They are located in the same county and are familiar with weather,plant and soil conditions that pertain to your location.

    Is Avid .15ec effective on Bermuda mites??

    Avid is not labeled for Bermuda mites. We apologize we do sell products that are listed for mites, but none that are listed for Bermuda Mites. Please contact your Cooperative Extension Office and speak with the Master Gardener on staff.

    If I left Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide where it may have frozen over the winter, is it still okay to use?

    If Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide goes back into suspension, it is fine to use. If the product does not go back into a solution and has particles floating around after the bottle has been agitated, we would not recommend using it.

    Does Avid work on fungus gnats?
    If not what is a good pesticide/insecticide to get rid of fungus gnats?

    Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide is not labeled to treat fungus gnats. Talstar P (Talstar One) is a great product to use for fungus gnat control. It is to be used inside and outside the home, but will only kill the adults as the larvae is protected in its egg form, much like a chicken egg is protected until cracked. To control the larvae you would need to mix the NyGuard IGR (birth control) in with the Talstar. NyGuard is labeled for fungus gnats as well as a large variety of other insects to sterilize the adults from being able to lay viable larvae. This will control the population drastically in keeping new ones from developing. You should mix 1 ounce of Talstar P with 4 ml of NyGuard IGR to each gallon of water you use. Talstar P can be used as a broadcast over the entire lawn or just as a perimeter treatment. You will want to focus on the mulch bed area and the underside of shrubs, bushes, or trees in the area. It is completely safe to spray on ornamentals. In the garage area, spray as crack and crevice and focus on damp areas/reducing the water/moisture. 

    If you have containerized plants, be sure they are not over-watered and that the soil is allowed to drain properly.

    Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide would be applied with a pump sprayer mixed with water.  Depending on what you are treating, the mixing ratio of Avid is labeled per 100 gallons at 4oz. With this said you would want to use approx. .04 fl oz per gallon of water. Please be sure to follow the product label for application instructions

    Will Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide kill and prevent clover mites?
    Looking for the best products, both outdoor and indoor to rid my house of clover mites. Have used Talstar P (not so helpful anymore) and Cyzmic CS (NOT helpful at all). Would like a couple of REALLY good options to alternate. Thanks.

    Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide is not labeled to be used inside homes so would not be recommended for clover mites.  Talstar is one of the top products for clover mites but will not keep them away or repel them.  Unfortunately these pests seem to come back every year once the moisture comes and the weather gets warm, be sure to also treat the yard and at least 5-10 feet out around the foundation.   Temprid SC is another option to use.  You can also remove all grass and weeds within 18 to 24 inches of your home.  As well as put out a band of coarse sand, gravel, or wood chips immediately surrounding the foundation. This will keep clover mites from entering the structure.

    Depending on what you are treating, the mixing ratio of Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide is labeled per 100 gallons at 4oz.     How long does Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide stay in cannabis?

    Avid 0.15 EC Miticide Insecticide does not list cannabis on the label therefore we would not be able to advise on the residual it would leave on cannibas. We recommend contacting Syngenta directly at 866-796-4368.
