    Q
What is the best way to apply Bifen IT for mosquitoes, and other bugs? As a broadcast?
    A

When applying Bifen IT outdoors for a variety of insects you are absolutely able to apply it as a broadcast spray. You will need 1 fl oz of product diluted into 1 gallon of water for every 1,000 sq ft of space you need to treat. When you are treating for mosquitoes the key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio where you are trying to provide relief. It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out. This product can also be applied to your lawn, exterior of your home for barrier insect control and indoors to control current infestations. Make applications every 30 days for optimum control.

Please take a few moments to review our treatment article on How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes for more information on a successful program.

    Q
Can Bifen IT and permethrin be mixed together?
    A

We do not recommend mixing together two pyrethroids such as Bifen IT and a permethrin product. These products are too similar, and you could create a repellency issue rather than allowing insects to actually contact the treated areas. If you want to add something to Bifen IT for faster intiial knockdown, then we suggest a pyrethrin and/or PBO product such as ExciteR Insecticide.

    Q
How often do I apply Bifen IT for chinch bugs?
    A

When treating for chinch bugs with Bifen IT, it is recommended that you do a second treatment 21-30 days after the first treatment. You will use 1 fl. oz. of product per gallon of water. This will treat 1000 square feet. Be sure to water the product in at least 0.5 inches after it has been applied.

    Q
Can I combine Bifen IT with other chemicals?
I have ExciteR and Cyzmic and Pivot. Can I safely combine all 3 of these or any of them for terrible mosquitoes?
    A

Yes, Bifen IT can be used with an IGR like Pivot and a synergist like Exciter for a faster knockdown of insects such as mosquitoes. There would be no valid reason to mix Cyzmic CS and Bifen IT. You would want to use one or the other.

    Q
For chinch bugs in lawn, how soon after application should you water Bifen in?
Most directions for using Bifen on your lawn say to make sure it has 24 hours to dry before getting wet. But for chinch bugs, it says to water the product into the lawn. Do you water it in immediately? Wait 1 hour? 2 hours? 24 hours?
    A
When using Bifen IT for chinch bugs you should water in at 1/4 inch immediately after application to get it down to where they are.  It is only when you are applying for surface dwelling insects that you would wait to water so that it has time to dry on the surface it has been applied to.

Specific instructions from the label for chinch bugs: Mostly found in the thatch layer, chinch bugs infest the base of grass plants. In order to optimize the penetration of the insecticide to location of the chinch bugs, irrigation of the grass prior to treatment may be necessary. If grass is being kept at a long mowing height or if the thatch layer is excessive, use higher volume treatments. It may be necessary to use higher application rates (up to 1 fluid oz. per 1000 square feet) to control populations made up of both adults and nymphs in mid-summer.

    Q
I have clover mites. I got rid of them last year with Tempo SC Ultra but they have came back this year.
Demand G controls mites, but does not specify the clover mite. Can you confirm? I also plan on using Bifen It for perimeter of house. Would demand G granules and Bifen IT be a good combo?
    A
Demand G granules will control clover mites, but our most popular product for clover mites has always been bifenthrin products like the Bifen IT.  Demand G Granules would be a good one, two punch for your yard, but spraying Bifen on the house 2 feet up and 2 feet out and underneath siding will do a better job than anything keeping clover mites away.  Unfortunately these pests seem to come back every year once the moisture comes and the weather gets warm.

I have used Bifen IT on the lawn for mites, but I am unsure how much to water after application.
    A
According to the product label, you should use Bifen IT with a surfactant such as DyneAmic to control mites in the lawn. The product label also recommends irrigating the lawn with .25 inch of water after the application for lawn infesting insects.

How much Bifen IT & how to apply to carpenter ant nest in the yard.
The book says to dilute 0.5 to 1 oz to a gallon of water & apply at a rate of 10 gal per 1000 sq ft. So can I make 1 gallon & apply in a 10 ft by 10 ft area around the carpenter ant nest?
    A
You can definitely mix Bifen IT in smaller quantities to fit your needs as long as you are following the general guidelines described on the product label. Be sure to thoroughly saturate the carpenter ant gallery for best results.

Can I spray Bifen IT on the soil around my vegetable plants within a foot or so?
Trying not to get any on the plants , Can i do this without taking ANY chance of harm to me or my family if we eat the veggies ?

You must keep Bifen IT applications outside of the root zone of the vegetable plant according to the Bifen IT product label. Spraying within a foot of edible vegetation is usually too close.

    Q
We just purchased 35 acres in San Luis Colorado, and the property is infested with big headed ants.
We are not living on the land yet, but do camp on it, so I am not there all the times. Is there any time released treatment on the market.
    A
Insecticide granules such as Bifen granules would be a good choice to help control the population of big headed ants as it will last for 3-4 months. Bifen Granules will kill ants that venture on to treated areas.  Another great choice would be to use Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait. This bait is also labeled for big headed ants specifically and would be a great choice for your use. Extinguish Plus combines the power of hydramethylnon with an insect growth regulator (like birth control for ants) to kill big headed ant workers and prevent queens from laying fertile eggs. This product would kill the ants that picked up the bait and also kill the ants back at the colony.

    Q
    using bifen it liquid
i'm using a garden hose going through a dial and spray that dilutes insect killers and need to know if I can use this kind of sprayer for bifen IT. What ozs. do I use for treating springtails through this dial and sprayer. I purchased the gallon size of bifen IT liquid.
    A
You can use between .5 and 1 ounce per gallon of water. Depending on how your hose end sprayer is set up, you would need to select one of those two rates on the dial to properly dilute it. Either rate is acceptable for the treatment of springtails.

    Q
I have been trying to kill springtails w/1oz/gal of BifenIT on my deck. Should this kill on contact?
I know I have to look for and remove sources of moisture. I have sprayed 3x today and each time I look they seem to have come back. I just want to make a dent in their population numbers for now. Does it take a while for the BifenIT to work?
    A
We only recommend applying Bifen IT as labeled, which would be once every 30-60days. Over application could cause the insects to become irritated and rapidly reproduce. Bifen IT will kill with in a matter of minutes.

    Q
Can I use Bifen for general pest control soon after Termidor has been used in a barrier treatment?
I am wanting to use bifen to control spiders on the corners of my home and around the perimeter. I am also in the process of using termidor in a barrier treatment for termites. Is bifen ok to use right now or should I wait a period of time after the termidor treatment
    A
Since the Bifen will be used topically for general pest control it should not interfere with a trenching treatment done using Termidor SC.
