    Q
When using Bifen I/T 7.9% as a lawn mosquito control, will it kill the beneficial dragonflies?
It's pleasant to watch the dragonflies gorging on mosquitoes as they fly around the yard and help us out as they feed. Since my wife already sprayed most of the turf, I hope the dragonflies (quite large ones) are not affected by alighting on the grass.
    A
The Bifen IT is not a selective insecticide so were a dragon fly to land on a surface sprayed with the Bifen it could die from it. It can help to avoid main landing areas for the dragonflies if you do not want to lower the population around the home.

    Q
What is the best concentrate to rid mosquitoes, will use an ATV sprayer.
    A
Bifen IT would be a great choice for mosquitoes.  The most important thing to remember when treating for mosquitoes is that they hang out on the underside of leaves and shrubs.  You should treat all shrubs, bushes and trees around the outside patio or wherever you hang out at around the house.  You should also treat the tree line in your yard near the forest if one exists.  Remember to not only treat the main bush or shrub but also the underside of the leaves.

    Q
I NEED SOMETHING TO KILL ALL KINDS OF INSECTS IN MY BACK YARD;ALSO FRUIT TREES
BUT IT MUST BE ANIMAL SAFE BECAUSE I HAVE TWO SMALL DOGS THAT CHEW ON THE GRASS.
    A

A good product to broadcast across your lawn is called Bifen I/T. It treats for various types of pests and can be used both inside along the baseboards, cracks and crevices and outside as well as a broadcast across the lawn. It is safe for pets when it is dry so remove the dogs from the area while spraying. This product is not labeled for fruit trees.

For fruit trees, I would recommend Monterey Fruit Tree Spray Plus. It is broadly labeled product that can be used on edibles.

    Q
I have a pool, what happens when Bifen IT gets wet from being walked on?
After spraying Bifen IT along the back entrance door (between pool and house), what can happen if I step in it or touch it with wet feet or hands AFTER it drys? Does it come off? Will I transfer it back to my wet hands or wet feet if I touch it? Thanks!
    A
Once Bifen IT dries, water will not reactivate the product. You just shouldn't walk on it while it is still wet from the application.

    Q
Is Bifen IT safe to use by a lake without harming fish?
    A
Bifen IT is not designed to be used along the perimeter of lakes. It is harmful to aquatic life. You could use EcoVia, which many folks use to treat their docks for spiders and other insects.

  • Asked by Josh from Florida
    06/17/2014
    Q
Is it ok to Mix Bifenthrin and permethrin together also with a IGR (NyGuard) for a lawn application. To have
the permethrin for the fast knockdown and the bifenthrin for longer residual and the IGR to break the flea and other life cycles. Or should I only use the bifenthrin. I dont want the two chemicals to work against each other and have negative results. Thanks
    A

We would not recommend mixing Bifenthrin and Permethrin together. The Bifenthrin mixed with an IGR is effective as well as mixing Permethrin with an IGR, such as NyGuard. Nyguard does have a residual for 4-5 months. With fleas, keep in mind that multiple applications are needed for them to be eradicated. After the first application, a follow up treatment should be done every 14 days until the fleas are gone.

    Q
What is recommended for White Pine Weevil?
    A
Bifen IT is labeled for "weevils" in general and the active ingredient Bifenthrin is known to be effective for white pine weevils. It is important when using a foliar application that treatments start when adult weevils first start to appear in spring, usually around mid-April. At this time, Bifenthrin seems to be the only active ingredient available to homeowners for white pine weevil control. We also suggest you contact your local cooperative extension office for more tips on the best treatment time in your specific area

    Q
In live in So CA. Huge spider problem. What's the best indoor/outdoor product available?
    Daddy long leg spiders.
    A
We would recommend using Bifen IT for treating indoors and outdoors. Bifen IT is a great general all purpose insecticide that can be used as a perimter treatment on the outside of home (windows, doors, foundation, yard, trees, bushes) and inside as a crack and crevice spray. You will get a 30 day residual on the outside of the home and 90 residual on the inside of home.

    Q
Do you have anything for mosquitoes and flies?
Backyard patio and yard appx. 75 ft. x 80 ft.
    A
Bifen IT would be a great choice to treat mosquitoes and flies. It dries clear and is odorless. You can apply the mixed solution to lawns, trees, shrubs, indoors. It has a long lasting residual. You may want to retreat during the season once every 30 days.
Be sure to spray the undersides of leaves on trees as bushes as this is where mosquitoes like to hang out during the heat of the day.

    Q
Can I apply Bifen IT with the garden hose sprayer? What is the shelf life of Bifen IT? thanks
try to treat my lawn for mosquitoes, it is about an acre plus a lot of bushes around the perimeter. I used Ortho Bug B Gon insect killer, it is easy to apply but only last about a week. 0.03% of Bifethrin.
    A
You can use the Bifen IT in a hand pump sprayer or with a hose end, although you will get more uniform and accurate coverage with a hand pump than you will a hose. You would typically mix 1 ounce to a gallon of water.  Bifen IT has a shelf live of 3 years of the date of purchase. It is important to store insecticides out of direct sunlight and out of extreme temperatures.

    Q
What would you recommend for general pest control around a new home?
Want to know what products to use and a schedule to do my own work for pest around the home and lawn. I have St. Augustine grass and have a pond behind my home.
    A
Our most popular general use product is called Bifen IT.  It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests. We recommend treating once a month in the waremst months of the year and then every 90 days when it is cold and pests are less active. Be sure to stay at least 15 ft away from the pond and do not spray on windy or rainy days to avoid having the product drift in to the pond.

  • Asked by Ken from Fort Mill Sc

    Q
I am a beekeeper. Will Bifen IT hurt my bees?
Mosquitos are a problem for my family. I have rigged up my sprayer to my leaf blower and this gives me very good coverage to the underside of leaves. I do have flowers that the bees visit.
    A
Bifen IT is highly toxic to bees. You can reduce the risk to your bees by keeping applications away from areas where the bees are actively foraging and at times when the bees are not active in general. You may also consider using Mavrik Perimeter insecticide for outdoor pests, which is non-repellent and non-toxic to honeybees after it is dried. You will want to read the product label to see if this fits your needs.

    Q
I used Diazinon for years. Do you have an equivalent product?
I sprayed for ticks, mosquitoes, and general yard insects. It was very effective. I have tried several products since and nothing works as well. Your suggestions?
    A

Yes, we do have products that are comparable to Diazinon since it has been outlawed due to safety regulations. We would recommend Bifen IT. It is great for indoor and outdoor use. Indoors, you will spray along the baseboards and cracks and crevices. It lasts for 90 days. Outdoors, you can broadcast across your lawn, spray along the perimeter of your home, on flowers and also ornamentals. This lasts for 30 days outside. This product is not labeled to be sprayed on edibles. It is labeled for ticks, mosquitoes and various other pests as well.

Bifen IT is our most popular choice for mosquito control that can be used in a mist blower.  You would apply once a month.

    Q
What is the best spray for grasshoppers?
I want to spray a Large area with a 15 gallon sprayer to get rid of the million grasshoppers. do not want to harm the yard or flowers. what should i use?
    A
Bifen IT would be a good choice for grasshopper control. You should start applications before the grasshoppers have a chance to hatch for best control. You should thoroughly spray your lawn and water in the application with about a .25 in of water to help the product get past the thatch layer and into the soil where grass hoppers actually develop. If you already have grasshoppers you can use Bifen at the highest usage rate of 1 oz of product per 1 gallon of water for the quickest knockdown. Use sufficient amounts of water to help the product get to the soil layers. Once the Bifen has dried it will be completely safe for pets and children to resume their normal activity in the areas that have been treated. The Bifen is safe to be used on anything non-edible in the yard and will not harm trees, bushes or flowers.
