  • Asked by Neith from Long Beach, Ca

    Q
Can I pour Bifen XTS into the sprayer, set it on 1 and go spray happy?
I have the product but my math is iffy. I have a 1 once per gallon hose end sprayer. I understand to rid myself of spider mite I need to use .07-.15 fl oz. So my question is if I set my sprayer to 1 should the product be cut or remain as is?
    A
Hose end sprayers are not the most accurate so for your application a hand pump sprayer would be much more preferred. At no time should you go "spray happy" with a rate at anything other than the label suggests. According to the label, for Spider Mites on ornamentals, you would use .38 -1.28 ounces per every 10 gallons of water. The Bifen IT would be better for your needs than the Bifen XTS as spider mites are not its main usage and is a much higher rate of the active ingredient, therefore causing you to have to dilute much further down for your needs. If your sprayer dial has options for teaspoons per gallon as well as ounces, and you can select an option for 2.5 teaspoons per gallon then your hose end sprayer can be used. Other wise you will need to change your application rate. Please look back over the product label for the product you purchased.

    Q
Do you have to water in the Biffen XTS to treat for chinch bugs?
    A

    According to the manufacturer:

To maximize efficacy against subsurface pests, apply Bifen XTS with a non-ionic surfactant in enough water to ensure the spray penetrates to soil-thatch matrix. Irrigate treated areas with 0.25 to 0.5 inches of water immediately following application taking special care to prevent run-off or puddling.

  • Asked by Mark from Palm Beach Gardens
    09/03/2012
    Q
Can I use this product on siding to prevent spider web formation?
I am looking for a relatively safe product with a long residual for our summer cottages to prevent spider web accumulation. Thank you.
    A
Bifen XTS will help kill spiders in the area but it can take 24-48 hours for spiders to die after they come into contact with the product and in that time they can form webs. We do carry WebOut Cobweb Eliminator which can help to help prevent the formation of new webs. We do recommend you use a really good insecticide such as the Bifen XTS around the base of the structure to help eliminate the spiders and the Webout in places where you need to discourage web formation for the best results.

    Q
My centipede yard is infested with Spittlebugs.
How much Bifen XTS should I apply per 1,000 sf? Can I use an end-hose applicator?
    A
You will need to use 0.07-0.15 fl. oz. per 1000 square feet. You can use a hose end sprayer if it can be calibrated for the usage rate needed for spittle bug control. Please refer to the Bifen XTS product label for complete usage instructions.

    Q
What is the correct usage rate of Bifen XTS when treating mountain pine beetles using a 2 gal sprayer?
I am using a 2 gal sprayer & need the correct ratio of Bifen xts to water.
    A
When treating for mountain pine beetles the product label recommends using 2.0 pints of product per 100 gallons of water. If you only need to mix 2 gallons at a time you will 0.64 oz of Bifen XTS diluted in 2 gallons of water. Treat the main trunk from the base of the tree to at least halfway into the live crown spraying the tree directly and until the bark is completely wet (usually 1 to 4 gallons of spray per tree). Be sure to read the Bifen XTS product label for complete usage instructions.

    Q
Would Bifen XTS be an effective product for the control of flies around exterior calf huts and barns?

  • Asked by Scott from Newtown Square, Pa
    04/18/2012
    Q
Other than longer residual, what is the difference between oil and water based Bifen?
For example, can the oil based Bifen XTS be applied to wood siding and other outdoor structures?
    A
According to the Bifen XTS product label you can indeed spray it on outdoor siding and other outdoor structures. As with all oil based products, we do recommend you spray a small inconspicuous area to test for staining. Bifen XTS cannot be used indoors as a crack and crevice or broadcast spray while Bifen IT can. You can review the Bifen XTS product label and the Bifen IT product label if you would like to compare the products in greater depth.

  • Asked by Eric from Bainbridge Indiana
    03/20/2012
    Q
What concentration of Bifen XTS should I use against bagworms?
It is spring and hot here in Indiana all ready. I treated at the end of summer last year and I see allot less bags on the trees and plucking is not possible. I want to treat now and again in the middle of summer all most lost my pine trees, 700' of them.
    A
According to the Bifen XTS product label "Dilute 0.26 to 1.28 fl. oz. of Bifen XTS per 10 gallons of water and apply at the rate of 10 gallons per 4,356 square feet. One gallon of finish spray will treat 435 sq. ft." You will want to use the higher usage rate for a faster knockdown and a longer lasting residual.

  • Asked by Bryan from Tucson, Az
    01/19/2012
    Q
    Will Bifen XTS stain concrete?
Have had good luck with Bifen I/T, and was considering buying Bifen XTS instead for the higher concentration bang for the buck. Just need to know if it will stain my sidewalks, driveway and patios.
    A
Not at all.  Even though this is a higher concentration, the benefit is that a quart of XTS will make more per gallon.  You only mix a third of an ounce with water of XTS instead of an ounce of normal Bifen I/T, but the end solution is the same really.  We have never had a complaint of Bifen IT or Bifen XTS staining anything so you should have no issues.
