GENERAL INFORMATION

Bifen XTS used in and around structures and building construction will prevent and control termite infestations.

To institute a barrier between the wood and the termites in the soil, the chemical dilution must be effectively dispersed in the soil. It is important to remove unnecessary materials that contain cellulose and wood from around foundation walls, crawl spaces (inside of structure), and porches, and fix damaged plumbing and construction grade in order to deny termite access to moisture. Treat the soil around untreated structural wood in contact with soil.

APPLICATION

Subterranean Termite Control

Lawns:

Bifen Xts may be used as a broadcast treatment. To accomplish uniform control when applying to dense grass foliage, use volumes of up to 10 gallons per 1,000 square feet. For low water volume usage, less than 2 gallons/1,000 square feet, addition of a non-ionic or silicone based surfactant (0.25% v/v) is recommended, as is immediate irrigation of treated area with at least 0.25 inches of water following application to ensure efficacy of sub-surface pests including mole crickets.

Ornamentals and Trees:

dilute 0.26 to 1.28 fl. oz. of Bifen Xts per 10 gallons of water and apply at the rate of 10 gallons per 4,356 square feet. One gallon of finish spray will treat 435 sq. ft. If a higher volume application is needed to sufficiently cover the plant canopy, Bifen Xts can be diluted in large volumes of water and applied through low volume equipment as long as the maximum label rate (1.28 fluid ounces per 4,356 square feet) is not exceeded.

WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including naphthalene which is know to the State of California to cause cancer. For more information go to https://www.P65Warnings.ca.gov

    Another great product from Domyownpestcontrol.com

    By C. on 07/27/2011

    Verified Purchase

Bought four bottles of this stuff to control ants, mosquitos, and japanese beetles. 2oz. in a 2 gallon sprayer and presto! No more bugs. Some of the best stuff I ever bought. About to mix up a batch for the hose end sprayer to do my trees and shrubs. VERY confident it'll take down most anything that it comes into contact with. May seem expensive at first, but the premeasure cup takes the guesswork out of the picture and I'll probably have enough for 2-3 years. Try finding something that works so well in ANY store and not only will you be disappointed, but will get something that probably contains less than 0.5% of what this stuff has. I buy ALL my pest control products from Domyownpestcontrol.com and have NEVER been disappointed with any of their products. Highly recommended.

    Excellent Product

    By Jerry on 05/20/2011

    Verified Purchase

I purchased Bifen XTS to replace my overpriced local extermination company. They asked over $900 for a five year retreatment plus a $125 a year membership fee and $90 per visit fee four times a year. If this product performs as advertised, I will be hundreds of dollars ahead in no time. After spraying the outside perimeter of my home, I sprayed several Fire Ant mounds. After making my rounds I checked each mound to find that it destroyed the ants completely. I have not seen any new mounds in two weeks. My faith is growing for Bifen XTS.

    Great stuff

    By Kevin on 09/18/2012

Used primarily to control earwings, also takes out lots of other pests since it's broad spectrum. I didn't realize how annoying the crickets climbing up the walls into the under eves were until they were gone. Mixed at maximum label (.12%) to knock down a continuing outdoor Earwig population. The local bifenthin concentrations start at .3% undiluted and you have to mix down from there and would knock out the living population but degrade as more hatched. The XTS oil based seemed like a more durable solution and it's labeled for a higher concentration that seems to be really put the hurt on multiple generations on a single application. Plan on repeating in a few weeks to re-enforce the application, putting an end to this mutli-year problem inherited from prior occupants. Also have Bifen IT water based for indoor and wood to prevent possible staining. PLEASE DO NOT USE ON YOUR FLOWERING PLANTS, this stuff will annihilate your pollinators and the bees have enough things to deal with without chemical warfare.

    Still going

    By Mark on 02/26/2011

    Verified Purchase

I live in NM. I purchased the "Bifen XTS" in January. We had a warm Saturday so I mixed and sprayed. Even with the cold weather there were dead roaches the next days. We had 2 weeks of extreme cold weather and snow. Once it started to warm up in the 50 plus temps the roaches were coming out and dropping dead. It continued to stay strong after going through the cold and snow. Good chemical, Irecommend it.

    Bifent XTS review.

    By B. on 09/13/2010

    Verified Purchase

Container makes it easy to accurately measure out the needed amount. The data sheet if fairly easy to follow and this takes the guess work out of the calculating gallons per area of coverage. I used the product for June Bug grubs and it did the job.

A

The mixing rate of Bifen XTS for sod webworms is 0.07-0.15 fl oz per 1000 square feet in at least 1 gallon of water but can be up to 10 gallons per the product label.  To ensure the best control for sod webworms, postpone watering or mowing for at least 24 hours after application. Q
Will bifen XTS kill a infestation of German roaches?

I live in south Georgia. I have animals and children. Would it be safe and work for indoors use on the German roaches?

A

Yes, Bifen XTS would work for German roaches both indoors & outdoors, but it would not be our top pick. One of our roach control kits would be best for an indoor treatment. Both should not harm pets/kids once dry.

Q
The difference between Talstar P and Bifen XTS?

I have termites that ate thru my pool liner and destroyed my liner. I am going to replace with a new liner. I need something that I was told I need a repellent are they repellent ?

A

Bifen XTS does not really make it that much better than the normal Talstar P, its just that one quart container can make much more than the equivalent Tasltar.  The normal mixture rate for Talstar is 0.5-1.0 ounce per gallon of water.  When using Bifen XTS, you only need about a third of an ounce to make the same treatment.  So you can make many more gallons of solution from one container of Bifen XTS.

Talstar P lasts 1 year in the soil for termites and Bifen XTS will last 3-5 years in the soil for termites.

Taurus SC would be a better long term treatment for Subterranean Termites as this will eliminate a active termite colonies within 90 days and provide a 10 year barrier protection against future termites. Taurus SC can be applied directly to the soil before installing the new pool liner at the rate of 0.8 fl oz per gallon of water per 10 sq ft area to be covered. After treating the soil and installing the new pool liner, you will want to apply Taurus SC as a trench treatment around the perimeter at the rate of 4 gallons (3.2 fl oz + 4 gallons of water) of mixed solution every 10 linear feet.

View the Taurus SC product label for more information.

Q
Will Bifen XTS need to be reapplied after a few months for termites under my inground pool liner?

I have termites that have ruined my inground pool liner and was advised to use a repellent. I have a new liner and do not want to install until I get the termites taken care of. Will I have to reapply under the liner again in a few months

A

Yes, when treating with Bifen XTS it would need to be reapplied. Bifen XTS is a repellent but not in the literal sense.

Instead, we recommend treating with Taurus SC before placing the pool liner as this product will eliminate active termite colonies within 90 days and provide a 10 year barrier protection against future termites. Before installing the new pool liner, you will use use 1 gallon of mixed solution (0.8 fl oz + 1 gallon of water) for every 10 square feet of the pool footprint. Once all the square footage has been treated, you will want to trench around the periemter of the pool for the complete barrier protection treatment. Dig a 6in x 6in trench directly against the pool perimeter and around any support posts/beams (if applicable) and pour 4 gallons of mixed solution (3.2 fl oz Taurus SC + 4 gallons of water) every 10 linear feet.

View the product label for a pre-slab and exterior perimeter treatment information as well as our Termite Treatment Guide for step by step instructions.

Q
How to apply Bifen XTS on the lawn for grubs, armyworms, ants fleas etc?
A

Bifen XTS is not labeled for grubs. It is applied at the rate of 0.07-0.15 fl. ozs. per 1000 square feet for ants, armyworms and other listed pests and offers a 30 day exterior residual. You can see our full selection of grub control products here.

Q
What is the mix rate for Bifen XTS to treat mole crickets?
A
Bifen XTS is applied at 0.07-0.15 fl. ozs in 2 gallons of water per 1000 square feet for mole crickets. Water treated areas with 0.25 to 0.5 inches of water immediately following application taking special care to prevent run-off or puddling.

Per the product label, use the lower rate (.07 fl oz) in the early Spring to control overwintered Mole Crickets and use the higher rate (0.15 fl oz) in late-Summer or early Fall to control adult Mole Crickets. To increase control of later Summer or Fall Adult Mole Crickets, it is recommended to add a non-ionic surfactant or a silicone based surfactant (0.25% v/v) as a tank-mix with Bifen XTS.

Please view our Mole Cricket Control Guide for more information.

Q
Bifen XTS for termite prevention.

I'm not a big fan of trenching and was wondering if Bifen XTS (or its granular counterpart) can be broadcast on my lawn (how much and how many times a year) to prevent termites, as well as keep other bugs out. Total lawn size is just under 3600.

A

Bifen XTS will not protect against termites when sprayed to the surface as termites do not contact the surface when foraging.  Treating the entire yard is also of little benefit for protection.  Termites are always out in the lawn below ground and protecting your home is key.  Bifen also only kills those insects that contact a treated surface, so great for general insects that contact it, but not for termite colonies that are below ground.

Trenching is the best prevention against subterranean termites as they are inches below the surface when foraging so you must dig a 6"x6" deep trench with something like Taurus SC to get the most effective protection as explained in our guide here.  Taurus will last for 10 years or more in the soil and has a transfer effect to the colony below ground when those that contact the treated soil go back down to it.

Q
Using Bifen XTS to treat the exterior perimeter of my home, around windows, and doors but also want to use this in the garden area and lawn. Will this stain brick, concrete and windows? Can it also be used around a well and septic system?
A

You should apply Bifen XTS at least 5 ft away from the well and septic system.  Oil-based products such as Bifen XTS can stain some surfaces.  This is not usually a concern in most areas outside, but you should use caution when treating around the siding of a home.

Bifen XTS is not labeled for use in edible gardens and for landscape beds and ornamentals, it should not be applied during the heat of the day to avoid any burning to foliage.

Q
What is the rate for Bifen XTS per gallon of water to treat pine beetles on my pine trees?

I have cut the dead trees down but I have many tall pines I hope to save.

A

Bifen XTS is applied at the rate of 2.0 pints of product per 100 gallons of water. If you only need to mix 2 gallons at a time you will 0.64 oz of Bifen XTS diluted in 2 gallons of water. Treat the main trunk from the base of the tree to at least halfway into the live crown spraying the tree directly and until the bark is completely wet (usually 1 to 4 gallons of spray per tree).

Please review the full product label for more details and reference the Trunk Sprays on Ornamental Trees Section on page 20 for specific information.

Unfortunately, there is no easy solution when it comes to oak beetles. Healthy trees can be protected before the beetles attack by topically spraying them with a synthetic pyrethroid like Bifen XTS.  Infected trees should be cut down (before the newly hatched beetles fly out of the trees in the spring/summer) and the wood burned or chipped, while other still healthy trees should be sprayed annually to protect them. Because of the natural boring behavior of the beetle they are protected from topically applied insecticides and systemic insecticides (those injected into the tree or applied as a root drench) have proven ineffective for pine beetle infestations.

You should contact your local cooperative extension office to find out the best time to start spraying in your region.

Q
What is the mix rate per gallon of water for Bifen XTS to treat for aphids on Crepe Myrtles?
A

The rate of Bifen XTS to target aphids is 0.26 to 1.28 oz (1.5 tsp to 7.6 tsp) per 10 gallons of water. This would break down to be 0.02 fl oz to 0.12 fl oz (0.12 tsp to 0.72 tsp) per gallon of water.

Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions.
