    Q
What are the "insecticidal toxins" in Mosquito Dunks? Are these in addition to the BTI?
Summit Mosquito Dunks active ingredients list: Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis solids, spores and insecticidal toxins. What are the "insecticidal toxins"? Are these in addition to the BTI? Also, the Summit package states that the dunks can be used for bird baths and animal watering troughs, but should not be used in drinking water intended for human consumption. What about cats and dogs?
    A

Per the product manufacturer of the BTI Mosquito Dunks the insecticidal toxins are a non-toxic by-product of the bacllius thuringiensis on the product which is not harmful to non-target animals in any way.

    Q
Can you use BTI dunks in a pond used for drinking water?
I have a customer who has a pond that is used to provide drinking for his home. I'm not sure of what sort of filtration system he has, but I'm wondering if it would be ok to use the BTI dunks to treat the water? He has another pond that doesn't provide drinking water that he uses the methoprene dunks on and I didn't think he should use those for his drinking water pond, but wondered about the use of the BTI dunks?
    A

Per the product label for BTI Mosquito Dunks:  "Do not apply directly to treated, finished drinking water reservoirs or to drinking water receptacles when the water is intended for human consumption."

  • Asked by Tanya from Owasso, Ok

    Q
Which is more effective for mosquito control - BTI Mosquito Dunks or Altosid?
We have natural drainage ditches around our house, and several low areas hold water. There's also a more quickly moving creek-like ditch behind our house. Which would be more effective - dunks or granules?
    A

A granular product like Altosid Pro-G Mosquito Larvacide would have an advantage over the BTI Mosquito Dunks because the Altosid granules would disperse over a farther range than a mosquito dunk would cover.

    Q
Will an herbicide like Round-Up have any effect on the bacteria in the BTI Mosquito dunks?
    Herbicide and Dunks
    A

Herbicides such as should not effect the BTI Mosquito Dunks as long as it is used as directed.  We wouldn't recommend spraying the dunks directly though just to be on the safe side but if applied to a body of water that is also treated with an aquatic herbicide, the dunks would not be effected.

  • Asked by Noel from Laramie Wy
    06/15/2015
    Q
Will the active ingredient in Bti Briquets migrate from a pond to the underground ground water?
If so, then it could contaminate a water well in close proximity to the pond?
    A
The BTI Briquets/dunks will not normally migrate anywhere it will simply slowly breakdown until gone in standing water areas where you dont want pest reproduction to occur. If any of the product did get into the water table somehow it would not be a problem as this product does not harm us and can be used in drinking troughs for animals, in ponds with fish being caught for consumption, and in rain barrels where the water is used to water vegetables.
