Can I use the Carpet Beetle Control Kit in my car?

    Q
How long does it take for the NyGuard Plus to kill?
I sprayed the NyGuard Plus on my carpet two days ago as directed, after removing all furniture and vacuuming first. Today, I've found 4 more larvae in different rooms near the edges of the rooms and all were alive. How long does it take for the carpet beetle larvae to die after contact with a treated carpet?
    A

How long it takes to see results using the Carpet Beetle Control Kit will depend on several factors, including  the age and health of the beetle and how long it spends on a treated surface. It could be hours or even a couple of days. Please see our Carpet Beetle Treatment Guide for more information on how to get rid of carpet beetles.

    Q
Is this safe for indoor cats?
    A
The products included in the Carpet Beetle Control Kit are pet safe, if used as directed.  Pets and people should be removed from the area when applying the products, and once the treated areas have completely dried, it is then safe for pets and people to re-enter those areas.  You can refer to application instructions for this kit below, and by following the link provided above.

How to Use Your DoMyOwn Carpet Beetle Kit

*Refer to our Carpet Beetle Guide for more information on treatment and carpet beetle prevention

    Before Your Treat, Vacuum

Before you apply any product, vacuum the rugs and carpets in your home. Vacuuming can remove carpet beetles and their eggs, leaving less pests to treat.

Immediately after vacuuming, dispose of the vacuum bag into outside trash. If your vacuum does not have a bag, dump the dust, hair, and dirt from the vacuum into a trash bag and immediately place the bag in an outdoor trash can.

Step 1 - Apply NyGuard Plus

Shake the can of NyGuard Plus, then apply in a sweeping motion in the rooms where carpet beetles (both larvae and adults) have been found, including:

    -Carpets

    -Rugs

    -Baseboards

    -Closets

    -Around the edges of carpets

    -On upholstered furniture

NyGuard Plus will not stain water-safe surfaces, but if you worry about staining, spot test a hidden area of the furniture or rug first.

You should see a mist emitting from the can. If you instead see a pin-stream spray, shake the can again. If you do forget to shake the can, wipe the tip first before shaking and spraying again.

Be sure to wear gloves and long sleeves when applying NyGuard Plus or any insecticide/adulticide around your home. Do not let children or pets into treated rooms until the solution has dried (about 1-2 hours).

Step 2 - Apply CimeXa Insecticide Dust

To apply insecticide dust, remove the black tip off the CimeXa bottle, cut the tip of the bottle, then squeeze the bottle to apply puffs of dust.

Apply dust to the following areas:

    -Inside wall voids

-Where the carpet meets the baseboard

-Where the baseboard meets the wall

    -Inside electrical outlets

    -Attics and crawlspaces

-Where pipes meet walls, such as beneath sinks

(Optional) If you are using a bellow hand duster (sold separately) to apply your dust, fill the duster halfway with dust, then replace the lid. Turn the duster upside down (so that the lid faces the floor) and apply 1-2 puffs of dust at a time to the areas listed above.

Step 3 - Monitor Your Infestation with Catchmaster 100i Insect Monitors

Place glue board insect monitors in the corners of rooms, under furniture legs, in closets, and anywhere carpet beetles have been spotted. After you treat, you should see a decrease in the number of carpet beetles (adult and larvae) you find on the glue boards.

If you still see activity after 30 days, repeat step 1 above.

Continue to vacuum daily after treatment, throwing trash bags directly outside.

    Q
Should I ventilate any rooms sprayed? Would a room be safe to sleep in after using the Carpet Beetle Control Kit?
    A

When applying the products in the Carpet Beetle Control Kit, it is recommended to keep people and pets out of the area while treating and until the application has dried. Once dry, it is perfectly fine for people and pets to reenter the rooms and sleep in treated areas, typically after an hour. Ventilating the rooms is optional and based on personal preference as there is no restriction time other then waiting for the treatment to dry.

The NyGuard Plus in the kit does not work like a bug bomb or aerosol fogger, this is applied directly to carpets, rugs, closets, baseboards and along the edges of carpets in a sweeping motion. You will only apply till slightly damp and not oversaturate any surface.

    Q
Is Carpet Beetle Control Kit safe to use on beds?
So far I’ve only seen three larvae, but they are all on my bed. I’ve deep cleaned my entire bedroom (removed all furniture and deep vacuumed, steamed, and cleaned) and went on vacation for a week and came back and there was the third one.
    A

Nyguard Plus is restricted to apply only to the mattress as a spot treatment to seams, edges, buttons, and tufts of the bed. Do not apply directly to pillows, bed linens, or cloths. Do not saturate the mattress and do not treat the entire surface area of the mattress. Allow the mattress to dry thoroughly before replacing pillows and/or bed linens.   The other items would not be used on beds.
