You should hear the battery running while the unit is turned on, but you should be able to control the spray using the handle to stop and start the flow of liquid from the handle. The Chapin 4 Gallon 20v Wide Mouth Backpack Sprayer 63985 should use the lithium battery suggested by Chapin. The 20V replacement battery is to be used in the Chapin Backpack Sprayer 4 Gal. 20V Lithium Black & Decker Battery (63980) also.
The only replacement wand for the Chapin 4 Gallon Backpack Sprayer 63985 is the plastic wand, part 6-8219. Be sure you are storing your sprayer empty, clean, and out of direct sunlight and extreme heat to prevent damage. We have other backpack sprayers like the Chapin 62000 that do have metal wands, if needed.
The Black and Decker charger that comes with the Chapin 4 Gallon 20v Wide Mouth Backpack Sprayer 63985 is a 110V charger. It is not available in 220V.
