    Q
What is the dilution per gallon as well as the outdoor coverage area for Demand CS for tick control?
If I fill my 2 gallon hand sprayer, what amount of Demand CS do I need to add? What kind of coverage can I typically get from it? I am spraying a section of my yard that is lightly wooded, no grass, mostly leaves and branches. I am solely concerned with controlling the tick population. I have read the booklet that came with the product but it is a little vague, ie outdoor surfaces. The Archer IGR is much more clear in its instructions. For Demand CS, I think I need to use 7.5 ml/gallon which should yield about 1500 sqft coverage. Does this sound correct? Thanks so much.
    A
You can use 0.2 fl.oz. (6mL),  0.4 fl.oz. (12mL). or 0.8 fl.oz. (24mL) of Demand CS per gallon of water. We recommend using the highest concentration for the initial treatment and then, depending on how bad the infestation is, you can use 0.2 - 0.4 fl oz for the monthly follow up treatments. According to the product label, this is the most effective way to treat for ticks using Demand CS: "To control nuisance ticks (e.g. dog ticks) apply to kennels, yards, runs, and other areas where pets may frequent. For best coverage to control ticks, apply using a coarse fan spray to vegetation brush, branches, rock walls, and other areas near habitation where ticks may harbor or frequent. Treat entire area rather than making spot treatments, and retreat as necessary to maintain control. Do not apply to pasture or cropland, and do not allow animals and people access to treated areas until the deposit has dried. Applications can be made on a monthly basis, beginning in the spring and can continue until frost to control both larvae and adult ticks"

    Q
Does it hurt Demand CS if it freezes?
    A
Insecticides should not be exposed to extreme temperatures such as freezing or over heating or left for prolonged periods of time in direct sunlight. In the case of Demand CS, as long it was only frozen for a very short period of time and after it was thawed out it went back into a solution (the way it usually looks) it should be fine to use. If however it appears that there are particles floating at the top, the product now appears discolored, or the product will not go back into a solution, the product should be discarded and replaced.

    Q
Is there any difference between Demand CS and Equil Lambda ?
The only difference I can find is the Demand CS lasts longer. Am I correct?
    A
Demand CS and Equil Lambda 9.7 CS are pretty much identical in every way. Both products are micro encapsulated and both will last for about the same amount of time and both treat the same insect pests. Really the only difference is that they are made by different manufacturers.

    Q
What is the effect of Demand CS on the environment? Is it safe to use with young kids?
We have a farm and try to use only organic products and practices. We have very young children and pets who will be playing in the grass areas so we are very concerned with safety. Ticks and biting insects are a problem.
    A
Demand CS is not an organic product nor is it a natural product. Demand CS is a synthetic pyrethroid that will kill most insects that come into contact with treated surfaces. Demand CS does not last long in the environment, usually only about 4 weeks outdoors. Demand CS is safe to use on grasses and other non-edible vegetation where children or pets may play when used as directed on the product label. Children and pets should be out of the area while you are doing the application and they can safely return to the area after the product is dry. If you are not comfortable using a man-made product for ticks and other insects we do have a line of natural and organic products available on our website: Natural and Organic Insecticides.

    Q
What is the shelf life of Demand CS and Equil Lambda?
    A
Almost all of the liquid insecticides can last up to 5 years on the shelf as long as you keep the lid on and keep the bottle out of direct sunlight and keep it from deep freezing in the winter.  You should shake up or agitate the bottle every few months to prevent clumping in the bottle.

    Q
Can I use this on the perimeter of my house one week after applying Ortho Home Defense?
Would the two interact or neutralize the Demand CS? How long do I need to wait?
    A
There wouldn't be any problem using Demand CS after using Ortho Home Defense. While each product contains a different active ingredient both products are from the same class of insecticides, synthetic pyrethroids, and they will not counter act each other. You should wait at least 7 days before applying Demand CS to areas where you applied Ortho Home Defense.

    Q
How can I use Demand CS to help get rid of mosquitoes on my property?
Our lot is partially thickly wooded. When we sit outside at night, we have a mosquito problem. How do we apply Demand CS to protect us outdoors? Can you use Demand CS with a fogger or a garden hose measuring applier?
    A
Demand CS can be applied using just about any type of sprayer including a hose end sprayer. The hose end sprayer needs to be able to be calibrated to 0.8 fl.oz. (24mL) of product per gallon of water. A good choice would be the Chapin Hose End Sprayer 6005.  Mosquitoes must land on the treated areas to be killed so be sure you are spraying the areas where they are known to land such as the underside of the leaves on trees and shrubs. It is also helpful to spray a 2 ft wide band around the perimeter of your property to deter low flying mosquitoes from entering.

    Q
How do I check out using PayPal?
When I check out the only way to pay is by credit card? Also, Demand CS, what type of container for the 32 oz size? Is it the same as the 8 oz dispensing type?
    A

If you want to check out with PayPal, simply add the products you would like to purchase to your cart and then click on the yellow "Checkout with PayPal" button" that you will see once you add anything to your cart. If you have already gone past that page and you are through the address information screen, you should click on the "cart" link at the top right hand side of the page. This will take you back to your cart where you can click on the PayPal button. The quart size bottle of Demand CS is just a larger version of the 8 oz bottle of Demand, the bottle is pretty much the same and the measuring dispenser is the same.

How far will one bottle of Demand CS go?
I have 31 unit apartment complex and I want to spray all bedrooms How much would I need for 2 treatments? Please let me know as soon as possible.
    A
You did not mention what type of pests you are treating for so we can only give you a general answer. Each 8 oz bottle of Demand CS will make between 10-40 gallons of finished solution. Each gallon of solution can treat about 1,000+ sq ft. We encourage you to read the Demand CS product label to find the usage rate that is appropriate for your needs.

    Q
Is there anything stronger than Demand CS for spider control?
I've been treating with Demand CS for years and have been generally happy with the results but this summer in particular, I've been having a rough time with some big spiders and I'm looking for something stronger. What is your recommendation?
    A
Demand CS is a pretty hardy product but if you are spraying porous surfaces it may be getting absorbed and in general may be less available to the intruding spiders. Demon WP is our most popular spider control product. Demon WP is a wettable powder insecticide that will stay on the surface of porous areas and may be easier for the spiders to contact. Be sure you are spraying outside around the foundation of your home, around door frames, window frames and any place where the spiders may gain entry indoors to stop these pests before they get inside.

    Q
What is the best treatment for the lawn and outside of house for ticks?
We have used Talstar outside of our house and windows to keep ticks out. We are having our yard sprayed and they are using Talstar and a mix of products but I still have ticks. My dog is covered in them and I have him on preventative also we have dipped him in Happy jack II. I have put the Preventix collar on him and have picked off ticks, washed and dipped every ten days. I need a product to knock them down and kill them. I have also used diatomaceous earth. But they keep coming back. The only relief we had was when winter came and they all went away. I wonder if I need to remove my dog for a while until this problem is resolved. I wish there was a product that just worked on contact and that they didn't come back.
    A
Talstar (and we hope they are adding an insect growth regulator such as Archer IGR to the product mix you mentioned) should do a great job for you. If you wanted to use something with a little more strength you could try Demand CS or its generic Equil Lambda CS. These products contain lambda-cyhalothrin and they are micro-encapsulated which makes them last a little longer on outdoor surfaces. You should remember that ticks may be hidden in tall or dense brush so higher treatment volumes may be needed to treat the entire plant, not just the top side of the plant where it is easiest to spray. You should try to get the application on the underside of leaves and all the way to the bottom of the plant. When you are dealing with an area that has a high tick population you may be required to treat once a month from spring through to the first frost, no matter what product you use. The problem on your property may be that ticks are being reintroduced into the area on a consistent basis by wildlife such as deer, raccoons or birds. You will be required to use non-chemical means to reduce the tick population in addition to insecticides. As with most pests you can modify the environment on your property to make it less favorable to ticks. Keeping grass and weeds cut short in tick infested areas increases tick death during hot weather, discourages wildlife and will reduce the amount of vegetation which may need a pesticide application to kill ticks. Clear away yard debris such as old firewood or leaf piles. Remove old or abandoned bird nests and rodent nests. Patch fences where wildlife may be gaining access to your property. It may also be helpful to have the ticks identified. By identifying the type of ticks you can better understand what type of animals may be bringing them to your property and you can modify the environment to make it less favorable for that host animal. You can contact your local cooperative extension office to request an insect identification.

    Q
Can Demand CS be sprayed on vehicle exteriors?
I would like to spray Demand CS on my car's paint to help keep stink bugs from wintering in it. Will it bond with the paint job and last for 30+ days? Will it damage the paint finish on the car?
    A
Demand CS is not labeled to be sprayed on cars so it has not been tested on car paint and we are not sure if it would damage the paint or not. We can tell you that Demand CS is water based and in most cases can be safely sprayed on any surface that is not damaged by water alone. Demand CS does stay on the surface that is sprayed and will keep killing for up to 30 days outdoors.

    Q
Is it dangerous to remain in an area where Demand CS has been sprayed?
An exterminator came by today and began using Demand CS in my apartment, focusing on the baseboards, "for spiders." He mentioned it lasted some time but did not mention any vapors, or hazards. I stayed for some 10 to 20 minutes in the apartment as it dried, getting ready for class. Should I be concerned?
    A
In the future it would be wise for you to leave the treated area until the application of Demand CS has had a chance to dry to avoid accidentally contacting wet areas. Vapors are usually not a concern with water based insecticides that are sprayed on using a pump sprayer.

    Q
I mopped the area where Demand CS was sprayed with water even before its dry.
Could it have caused any contamination?
    A
If you mopped over the treated area while it was wet or dry you will need to reapply the Demand CS. Demand CS is water based so you will need to rinse your mop with large amounts of water to rinse off  any product that may have been mopped up.
