Unfortunately there is a not a good selective product that you can use to get rid of the dallisgrass without killing the surrounding grass, too. Your best options once it has emerged is to either spot spray or wipe on something like Round Up, or hand dig up the clumps of dallisgrass down to the root system and re-seed with the fescue. You could use a pre-emergent such as Dimension 2EW in the Spring and Fall to help prevent it from ever growing.
The first thing you need to know when using an herbicide such as Dimension 2EW is that the exact amount of water you dilute it with is not important. It is only important to make sure you are using the correct amount of product per 1,000 sq ft of area. You will need to use .33 - .73 of an ounce of Dimension 2EW per 1,000 sq ft of area. To decide how much water you want to use, you should mark a 1,000 sq ft area, fill your hand pump sprayer (we do not recommend you use a hose end sprayer for this application) with water ONLY, and moving and spraying just as if you were doing the actual application of herbicide. When you are done walking and spraying the 1,000 sq ft area note how much water it took you to spray that area, and that is the amount you will want to mix .33 - .73 of an ounce of Dimension 2EW per 1,000 sq ft of product with for each 1,000 sq ft area that needs to be treated. You will need to make sure treated areas are irrigated with at least 1/2 inch of water (either by rainfall or by sprinkler) following the application to ensure best results. is that the exact amount of water you dilute it with is not important. It is only important to make sure you are using the correct amount of product per 1,000 sq ft of area.
Dimension 2 EW and Pendimethalin are labeled to prevent many of the same weeds, so we would recommend choosing the product that best fits your needs rather than making unnecessary applications. If you have specific questions about which pre-emergent would be best for your situation, you may reach our Customer Service team at 866-581-7378 M-F 9a-5p.
A great pre-emergent for grassy and broadleaf weeds would be Dimension 2EW. Be aware that it will not control anything that is already growing, you would need a post emergent for those depending on the type of grass you have.
Dimension 2EW Herbicide should be used in early spring for maximum results with poa annua and crabgrass.
Please check out our lawn schedule for warm season grasses. This will give more insight on when fertilizers, pre-emergents, etc. should be applied.
Dimension 2EW Herbicide is does not specifically list dichondra on the product label. You should wait 2-3 mowings prior to applying the product. See the product label instructions for more details.

Dimension 2EW Herbicide is a specialty selective pre-emergent herbicide fomulation that is labeled for Lespedeza (common). It will prevent the weeds from emerging, but it will not kill existing weeds.
Dimension 2EW would be great as a pre emergent on fescue grass. Dimension 2EW herbicide provides preemergence and early postemergence control of crabgrass, and season-long control of crabgrass, goosegrass, foxtail, spurge and bluegrass annual. Please consult the product label for application.
We would not recommend applying herbicides such as Dimension 2EW Herbicide during active precipitation. Instead, you could use a higher volume of water, or you could irrigate the application yourself with at least 1/2 inch of water.
Dimension 2EW Herbicide can be applied to your lawn if the soil is saturated with water or not. As long as there is no standing water in the parts of the soil that are being treated, it doesn't matter if the soil is saturated or not because, unlike a lot of other products, this product bonds to wet or dry soil.
While creeping bentgrass is listed as a tolerable turf grass, the product label for Dimension 2EW actually states that not all varieties of creeping bentgrass have been tested. It also says do not apply to golf course putting greens, so we are unable to advise that it could safely be used on your home putting green. We would recommend confirming with the manufacturer directly to be sure. Dow AgroSciences can be reached at 800-992-5994.
The manufacturer recommends to water in Dimension 2EW inside 24 hours after application so it would be best if you apply it the day before rain is expected if you do not manually water the product in.
There are no restrictions on 2,4-D being mixed with Dimension 2EW Herbicide. We would recommend doing a small tank mixture first to ensure that there is no clumping in the tank.
It would be best to dethatch the lawn before applying a pre-emergent like Dimension 2EW to a lawn so that the product can make better contact with the soil to create the barrier, and so that the barrier is not disturbed as it would be if you applied then dethatched.
The program that is chosen will depend on how long Dimension 2EW Herbcide lasts in the soil. For example, if Program 1 is done, it will provide 3-5 months of pre-emergent control. Most pre-emergent products will have to be applied at least twice a year to prevent Spring and Summer weeds.
Dimension 2EW should be safe to use around chickens as long as you are following the instructions on the product label. You would need to keep them out of the area until it dries, typically 3-4 hours.
We would not recommend using Dimension 2EW Herbicide in areas where runoff could occur. This could be harmful to aquatic organisms. We generally recommend not spraying when it is windy out so the product will not drift.
Yes, Dimension 2EW Herbicide does control sandburs. Be sure to check the label with regards to how much to use for your area.
Unfortunately, since Dallisgrass is closely related to Tall Fescue, generally what kills one will kill the other. We normally recommend hand pulling, if possible, or using something like Roundup QuikPro to spot treat the Dallisgrass, and then reseeding with Tall Fescue once the Dallisgrass is gone. We recommend using something Dimension as a pre-emergent for you to try to help prevent having to control as much with a post emergent down the road. Often with a few years of fall and spring applications you can get decent prevention.
