    Q
How well will a Soil Application of Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate next to new Wood Pony Wall work?
Am replacing an 18" retaining wood wall at base of hill. Old wall filled with termite damage. Would a trench application on the "hill side" of the new, pressured-treated pony wall control existing soil population? Thanks.
    A

We highly recommend to continue your trench of Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate next to your pony wall as well. This will give you a complete barrier for Termite Treatment and prevention.

  • Asked by Scott from Metairie

    Q
How much Dominion 2L would I use as a soil drench for whiteflies?
    A

For proper application the trunk diameter is important when treating whiteflies.

You will need 0.1 to 0.4 fl. oz.  of Dominion per foot of shrub height or 0.1 to 0.4 fl oz per inch of trunk diameter for trees. (For heavy current infestations, higher label rates are recommended). The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per foot of shrub height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per foot of height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) as well. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and translocated throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake.

We also recommend using a product with an active ingredient that is different than the soil drench for a foliage application while you are waiting for the Dominion to translocate through the ficus. Talstar P is the most popular choice for foliage application on ficus for white fly.

    Q
What is the application for whiteflies in potted plants with Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate?
I have a small greenhouse with lots of 2 and 4 inch pots and want to use dominion for whiteflies. I don't know how far the roots space is for these small pots. How much do I use per gallon for these small pits since it's not big enough to use per foot of root space.
    A

Dominion 2L is not labeled for use in containerized plants. We suggest Hi-Yield Systemic Insect Granules instead. That product can be used for containerized ornamental plants in home gardens.

  • Asked by Lee from Burlington, Nc

    Q
Would Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate be as effective on white grubs as a granular product?
    A

Yes, Dominion 2L Termiticide works just as well for grub control as using a granular product as long as the amount of the active ingredient, Imidacloprid is the same. What makes either a granular or liquid product successful is the amount of water that is used at application since water acts as the carrier. Please see our Pest Control Guide for Grub control for a step by step guide on how to do a full treatment and what the best products are.

    Q
What product is best to try and prevent trees from succombing to emerald ash borer?
I have cimarron ash trees (about 30 and in key locations in my development) about 10 inches in diameter bought from a nursery and planted about 20 years ago. All the white ash trees in my area are slowly dieing with the emerald ash borer. I assume these cimarron ash trees are vulnerable? if so, what product should I purchase to try and protect them and what time of year should I use it? How much shoulod I buy?
    A

We would recommend using Domnion 2L. It is labeled for use on trees for emerald ash borers as a preventative and a curative. This only needs to be done once a year. The mixing ratio is 0.1 to 0.2 fl oz per inch of the trunk diameter. This needs to be mixed in at least 5 gallons of water and poured around the roots of the tree.

  • Asked by Kenneth from San Antonio, Texas

    Q
How do I pour Dominion 2L on the trunk of Arizona Ash trees for web worms?
I know to pour 1 foot up from the ground. Could not find any info in the instructions.
    A

We apologize, but we are not certain exactly what pest you are targeting with your application. To treat trees with a systemic insecticide for sucking pests such as aphids, scale, whiteflies, you would use 0.1 to 0.2 ounces of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter and apply this as a drench around the base of the tree and root system. Please see the product label for complete application instructions.

If you have bagworms or tent caterpillars on your trees, then a systemic insecticide such as Dominion 2L will not be effective for these pests. Bagworms can be treated with a topical insecticide such as Talstar P before they are inside their protective bags. Tent caterpillars and other caterpillar stage insects could be treated with Talstar or with a natural Bt product such as Natural Guard Caterpillar Killer Spray with Bt.

When using Dominion 2L to treat for aphids you would mix 0.1 - 0.4 fl oz per inch of the trunk diamter in no less than 10 gallons per 100 sq ft of treatment area. You typically want to start about 12 inches from the base of the tree and out to the drip line.

    Q
Can Dominion 2L be sprayed directly onto hemlock branches to treat for wooly adelgid?
Have already poured solution in ground holes around hemlock tree.....
    A

Dominion 2L will be most effective when applied as a soil drench for pests such as wooly adelgids. If you have branches that are very badly infested, then you may want to trim these branches rather than trying to control a heavy population there. If you would like to use a product that will have a faster topical kill for existing adult adelgids, then you could use a pyrethroid insecticide such as Talstar P.

  • Asked by Roy from Yuma, Az
    03/17/2017
    Q
Is spraying Dominion 2L onto the soil effective?
My mobile home in Yuma AZ has concrete all around it. Would spraying into the soil underneath it be effective?
    A

If you are considering using Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate for a termite treatment around the mobile home and there is concrete around the foundation, then you would need to drill holes into the foundation in order to apply the termiticide to the soil under the concrete. You would need to use a large hammer drill with an 18 or 24 inch drill bit about every 12 inches, then you would still apply 4 gallons of solution per 10 linear feet around the foundation. You can read more about this treatment in our Termite Prevention Article.

    Q
My slab house was treated for termites five years ago. If I want to re-treat, would I drill next to previous holes or can I use the same holes?
The concrete slab on the sides and back of the house were drilled in 2012 for termite treatment. Would I drill in previous spots or next to them ?
    A

You would drill into the same location where the slab was previously treated and spray the termiticide into the holes. If you don't already have a product in mind to use, Dominion 2L is an economical product that will last for at least 7 years, and Taurus SC will last for at least 10 years.
