    Q
How much Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer do I mix in a gallon hand sprayer?
    A

The first thing you need to know when using an herbicide such as Drive XLR8 Herbicide is that the exact amount of water you dilute it with is not important. It is only important to make sure you are using the correct amount of product per 1,000 sq ft of lawn. Use too much and you risk damaging your lawn, use too little and you will not get adequate results. You will need to use 1.45 oz per 1,000 sq ft . To decide how much water you want to use, you should mark a 1,000 sq ft area, fill your sprayer with water ONLY, and start walking and spraying just as if you were doing the actual application of herbicide. When you are done walking and spraying the 1,000 sq ft area note how much water it took you to spray that area, and that is the amount you will want to mix 1.45 oz of product with for each 1,000 sq ft area that needs to be treated. You will need to make sure treated areas are irrigated with at least 1/2 inch of water (either by rainfall or by sprinkler) following the application.

    Q
Does Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer kill sandburs?
    A

Drive XLR8 is not labeled to treat for Sandburs. The best method of treatment for Sandburs is with a pre-emergent before the Sandburs germinate. A good option for a pre-emergent would be Surflan AS Herbicide but please refer to the product label to be sure it's safe for the type of grass you have. You can check Ferti-Lome Weed Out with Crabgrass Killer, it is labeled for Goathead which is another name for Sandbur, please refer to the product label to be sure it's safe for the type of grass you have.

    Q
How many applications of Drive XLR8 can I make during the growing season?
    A

Per the product label for Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer: you should avoid applications of herbicides with the same site of action more than twice a season.  So you could use twice in the spring and fall but should rotate after that number of applications to a different herbicide to prevent resistance if the target weeds are not killed with just the Drive.  It can take drive up to 6 weeks to completely kill.

  • Asked by Peter from Norwalk, Ct
    08/22/2019
    Q
Would Drive XLR8 kill crabgrass seedheads while killing the crabgrass?
I have full grown crabgrass with seed heads everywhere.
    A

Drive XLR8 is a post-emergent herbicide only. So while it will kill existing plants, it does not prevent new seeds from germinating. We recommend using a pre-emergent such as Dimension 2EW in the spring before soil temps reach 55 degrees to prevent new crabgrass from growing next year.

    Q
Can I mix Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer with Dismiss in a tank sprayer? Also, will it harm bermuda? I am in GA.

  • Asked by Bill from Denver, Nc
    08/11/2021
    Q
Can I apply Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer with a hose end sprayer? If so, what setting should I use to treat my lawn? It would be much easier rather than using a hand pump sprayer.
    A

Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer is not recommended to be applied using hose end sprayer as it is difficult to regulate the amount of water coverage and to ensure adequate water volume is coming out to evenly and thoroughly distribute the recommended 1.45 fl oz per 1000 sq ft mix rate.

Per the product label, use at least 20 gallons of water per acre or 0.5 gallons of water per 1000 sq ft at a low pressure setting of 20 to 40 psi to provide uniform spray distribution. A methylated seed oil surfactant is also recommended to be tank mixed with Drive XLR8 for best results.
