Best Azalea Food on the Market

    By Kathryn on 04/07/2016

I cannot find this product locally. My Azaleas thank DoMyOwnPESTControl from the bottom of their roots. With this product, my battle against lace bugs is over.

    Excellent Fertilizer

    By Mr. on 05/29/2020

I instructed our Gardeners to follow the application suggestions on the bag, and spread it on our azaleas, and evergreens to give them a "shot-in-the-arm", so to speak. We reside in Winston-Salem, NC and our native soil is mostly red clay with a sprinkling of mica flakes thrown in. Neither of which are especially good for growing anything, even fishing worms! So every so often a booster application is a good idea. This product is fairly priced and was shipped in a sturdy package. I have every confidence in the quality and that our plants are benefiting.

I have densiformis yew evergreens that were planted a few years ago and this year there are a lot of brown needles. Is this fertilizer ok to use?

A
Ferti-Lome Azalea/Evergreen Food Plus with Systemic can be used on Densiformis Yew. We would also recommend to find out exactly what is causing the needles to turn brown. You can contact your Cooperative Extension office and speak with the Master Gardner in your area.

Q
Will this product be effective against grasshoppers on my hydrangeas?

I have a flower bed with shrubs, roses and hydrangeas, and the hydrangeas are getting eaten by grasshoppers.

A
Ferti-Lome Azalea/Evergreen Food Plus with Systemic is not labeled to kill grasshoppers. We would recommend Bifen IT. It is a general insecticide that is labeled for various pests, grasshoppers included. It is safe to broadcast across your lawn, spray on ornamentals and flowers, and trees as well. It is not labeled to be sprayed on edibles. It can be used indoors and outdoors. You will use 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water. Another product that you could use is Cyonara Lawn and Garden Spray. It is attached to the water house and is RTS (ready to spray). It is labeled to be used outdoors only and cover 16000 sq. ft. of the lawn. Cyonara Lawn and Garden Spray can be used on lawns, yards, vegetable gardens, roses, flowers, trees and shrubs. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Q
Will Ferti-Lome Azalea/Evergreen Food Plus with Systemic kill beneficial insects such as lacewings?
A

The active ingredient in Ferti-Lome Azalea/Evergreen Food Plus with Systemic is Imidacloprid and has been shown to affect lacebugs when applied as a systemic application. For a low toxic method of treatment, it is recommended to use a contact kill or non-residual product such as Monterey Horticultural Oil. These insecticides have low toxicity to people and pets and relatively little adverse impact on the populations of pollinators and natural enemies and the benefits they provide. To reduce the risk of injurying pollinators, you should not apply to flowering blooms or when pollinators are in the area.
