Effective iron chlorosis for high pH soil

    By Mike on 09/26/2020

My Autumn Blaze Maple has been struggling with iron chlorosis for at least five years, getting progressively worse each year. We were paying a tree service for trunk injections and root applications to no avail. I had separately tried various iron treatments. We live in a semi-arid climate with high pH (7.8) soil and excessive lime. I was skeptical that anything would turn the tide, but after starting treatments with this product, the tree noticeably improved. New leaves were green on the previously yellowing parts of the tree and the yellowing stopped spreading. I wish I would have tried an EDDHA product sooner.

    Pleased

    By Donna on 08/28/2021

My hydrangea was showing all the signs of iron deficiency, yellowing leaves with green veins. My sister recommended your product. The new leaves that are emerging are solid green now. I applied your product, watered heavily and within a week I noticed the difference. Amazing!

    worked fast for me

    By Gary on 06/10/2022

The EDDHA chelated iron worked on my young pear and autumn blaze maple trees. In around 3 weeks in May, the chlorotic look of the leaves (lighter green than the veins) was gone. My soil pH was professionally tested at 8.1, requiring EDDHA as I understand. I used around half the bag on two 2" trees per instructions and immediately watered it in.

    Verdict is still out

    By M.johns on 12/25/2020

I used this product on "evergreen" citrus and Chinese Fringe Flower Loropetalum chinense, var. rubrum "Razzleberry" plants suffering from severe iron chlorosis. The cause I deduced was from using very hard water (high levels of soluble calcium and bicarbonate) for years which ultimately raised the soil pH above 7. I followed the directions and used drenches of product in the cold/cooler December. However, I have yet to see any positive response as likely the plants are still metabolically in the dormant like stage (Zone 9 climate). Nevertheless, Fe-EDDHA is the chelate to apply to this scenario based on my extensive informational research. The Verdict is still out.

    Gardenias

    By Christy on 01/21/2022

With hard water irrigation the soil is alkaline. It takes time to lower the pH. This EDDHA iron saved the gardenias from chlorosis. I tried the EDTA chelated iron, all they had at a local store, but it did not work due to the alkalinity. This version is more expensive and worth it when you need plants to respond quickly. A small amount is needed for each bush. It comes with a measuring spoon.

Q
Can I perform a soil injection for trees with the Fertilome Chelated Iron EDDHA 6% Water Soluble fertilizer?

I'm looking at another option for chlorosis besides a trunk injection.

A

The application rate for trees using Fertilome Chelated Iron EDDHA 6% Water Soluble states, "Trees (Including Fruit, Nut and Citrus): Use 1 to 4 Tbsp per one inch of trunk diameter (measured at 3 to 4 feet) and water immediately. Apply at the drip line." This product is not labeled for injection directly into a tree trunk.

Q
Can I mix Fertilome Chelated Iron EDDHA 6% Water Soluble with 2,4D or Atrazine herbicide as a spray?
A

We do not recommend that you tank mix Fertilome Chelated Iron EDDHA 6% Water Soluble with any herbicides. The product label indicates to apply 2-4 oz per gallon of water per 500 square feet, and then to water in immediately after application. If you were to use a post-emergent herbicide with that and then immediately water it in, you are going to lose most of the effects of the herbicide. Keep in mind that Atrazine should not be applied to desirable Bermudagrass.
