    Q
Can Fertilome tree and shrub systemic be sprayed on plant leaves to kill adult male mosquitoes?
adult male mosquitoes get their water source / food from plant leaves, will this kill them? will it last a season per spray?
    A

Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench is not labeled for use on mosquitoes and we do not have any research to show this type of application would be effective.

Talstar is our most popular selling product for mosquito control.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using a sprayer.  You will need about 1 oz of product for every 1,000 sq ft of space you need to treat. The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio where you are trying to provide relief.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out.  Talstar should be applied every 30 days for optimum control.

  • Asked by Larry from Rifle, Co

    Q
Can Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench be applied as a foliar spray?
I spoke with a local owner of an aspen tree nursery. He sprays this product on his young aspen trees 3 times per year when the twiggal fly is active.
    A
Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench is only labeled to be used a soil drench around the base of the tree and not as a foliar spray.  A soil drench will actually provide a longer residual as it will soak into the plants inner system and last for typically an entire growing season up to 1 year. Foliar application are only somewhat systemic with products labeled to do so but would need to be reapplied after the weather wears away at it on the surface.

  • Asked by Celia from Worland Wy
    06/04/2014
    Q
Would Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench work well on evergreen shrubs and spider mites
    A
Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench is not labeled for mites at all. Talstar works well for both the mature and the immature spider mites. Talstar provides optimal spider mite control when applied during spring to mid-summer. Higher application rates and/or more frequent treatments may be required for acceptable spider mite control during mid- to late-summer. The addition of a surfactant or horticultural oil may increase the effectiveness of Talstar. Talstar applications may be rotated with those of other products  that have different modes of action in control programs that are designed  to manage resistance by two-spotted spider mites. Consult your local Cooperative Extension Service for resistance management recommendations in your region.

    Q
What makes Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic so effective?
Just what is it that Makes this drench so Good? I 've used it on our Red Bud and Ash tree for years. Both are doing Great, No more baag worms, no more Tree borers(in the ash tree). This spring was the first time used on rose bush's, hedge bush's, azalea's and Everything that got a dose is doing 50% better. So,what is in Drench that makes it So Good as i know its Got to be more than Just a systemic insecticide. Thank You for a Great product.
    A

Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench is a highly effective insecticide drench because of how it works within the plants themselves.  It moves down through the soil after application, where it is absorbed by the roots of the plant or tree. Once absorbed, it moves up through the tree or shrub providing year-long insect protection.  This differs from a foliar application because the residual is far longer.

  • Asked by Mary from Hopemills Nc

    Q
Can I use this on the lawn to kill june, japanese and black grass beetles/grubs?
    A

Fertilome Tree and insect drench is a great insectide. However, to treat the beetles and many other insects in your lawn we recommend using Talstar P. Talstar P would be a great product for you to use for thebeetles  and the other insects on your property. Talstar P can be used in your yard, around the perimeter of your home and also inside your home when needed and it is safe for use around pets. Since grubs live underground they must be treated with a product that will target them where they live. We do have several products that are specifically labeled for grub worms on our website: Grub Worm Control. We also recommend that you contact your local cooperative extension office and inquire about the best time to start treatments for grubs in your region.

  • Asked by Maggie from Naples Fl
    05/07/2019
    Q
How much Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench should be used for a multiple trunk Banyan tree totaling 60
    A

The Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench label states: TREES WITH 2 OR MORE TRUNKS: Measure the distance (in inches) around each tree trunk and add together. Multiply this total by 0.75 to get the required number of ounces of this product to apply. Example: A tree has 4 trunks. They measure 20, 10, 5 and 5 inches or a total of 40 inches, 40 X 0.75 = 30 ounces.  This would mean you would need 45 ounces of product for a multi trunk tree with a collective measurement of 60 inches. For trees with circumference greater than 50”, use 2 gallons of water, carefully measure required amount of product into bucket, and slowly pour the solution evenly around the tree. For best results, pour as close to the trunk/main stem of the tree/shrub as possible.  Lastly, fill the bucket with clean water and pour it around the trunk as well.
