Ferti-lome Weed-Out Lawn Weed Killer with Trimec should not be used around desirable plants including contact or spray on exposed root systems or adventitous shoots within the drip line of desirable trees and shrubs, since injury may result.
Broadleaf weeds should be hand pulled or spot treated directly with a non selective glyphosate product such as Roundup QuickPRO. Grassy weeds can be treated using an over the top herbicide such as Bonide Grass Beater II Over-The-Top Grass Killer. Please view the product label for more information.
If the ground is not water logged, Fertilome Weed Out Lawn Weed Killer can be applied to the soil. The mixing ratio is 2 - 4 oz. per 1 gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft.
The product label for the Fertilome Weed-Out Lawn Weed Killer with Trimec indicates that you should not apply it on or near desirable ornamental plants. So this would not be safe to spray on your ferns or in a way where overspray could get onto them.
