Bamboo is very difficult to eradicate and will take multiple applications and sometimes years to fully eliminate. The 2 options for Dwarf Bamboo are manual removal or apply a non selective herbicide.
For Manual Treatment, remove the stalks with a handsaw before digging. Wet the soil around the base of the bamboo, use a shovel to dig around the base. Once you hit the rhizomes – start pulling the bamboo out making sure to remove all rhizomes to prevent regrowth.
For a Non Selective Herbicide Treatment, non selective herbicides such as Glyphosate and Imazypr can be effective in controlling bamboo, although multiple applications may be required, over 2 to 3 years. Bamboo should be cut and allowed to grow until about 3 feet tall and the new leaves expand. Eraser Max Super Concentrate contains both Glyphosate and Imazpyr should be applied to the entire plant surfaces until wet. Be sure you avoid any overspray during the application as this can injure or kill desirables if sprayed.
