Gordons Ornamec 170 Grass Herbicide is a selective post-emergence herbicide that’s specially designed to maintain landscape beds. It’s a specially formulated liquid herbicide that uses Fluazifop-P-butyl as its active ingredient to help control unwanted annual and perennial grasses such as panicum, crabgrass, goosegrass, foxtail, sandbur, barnyardgrass, bermudagrass, quackgrass, torpedograss and johnsongrass. It also reduces the risk of ornamental plant injury and it guarantees fast and efficient action. It can be used in and around groundcovers, shrubs and trees, landscape beds, ornamental beds, tree wells, fence lines, or other areas where control of unwanted grasses is desired.

APPLICATION DIRECTIONS: ORNAMEC 170 GRASS HERBICIDE can be used to control grass weeds in many newly transplanted and established ornamentals, trees, shrubs and groundcovers. Apply to actively growing grass weeds before they exceed the recommended growth stages shown below.
Do not apply ORNAMEC 170 GRASS HERBICIDE if rainfall is expected within 1 hour.
“Over-the-top” applications are recommended for the ornamentals listed in Table 1 (see label). “Over-the-top” applications are defined as spray patterns delivered to the upper portions of the established ornamentals and target weeds. Use sufficient spray volumes to ensure a uniform distribution and complete spray coverage of the target weeds.
Directed spray applications are recommended for the ornamentals listed in Tables 2, 3, and 4 (see label). Directed spray applications are defined as spray patterns aimed or directed toward the lower portion of the established ornamentals, and this method of application will minimize the phytotoxicity of the desired species. If the growth habit of the plant or other factors do not allow a directed spray, an over-the-top application can be made to plants in Tables 2, 3, and 4. However, there is the possibility of damage in the range listed for each table when applied at label rates. Refer to Tables 2, 3, and 4 (see label) for the list of ornamental species appropriate for directed spray applications.
DO NOT APPLY TO ORNAMENTALS THAT MAY BE HARVESTED FOR FOOD WITHIN ONE YEAR AFTER APPLICATION.
SPOT TREATMENTS FOR ORNAMENTALS, TREES, SHRUBS AND GROUNDCOVERS: Mix ORNAMEC 170 GRASS HERBICIDE with water according to the amounts shown in the following chart. Spray to obtain thorough coverage, but do not spray to runoff. Retreat if necessary.

This stuff works to eradicate bermuda from fescue , but don't try to use extra strong dosage. It usually will take 2 or 3 applications over a period of a couple of years, depending on how bad the bermuda infestation is. Apply in spring and fall when fescue is strongest. It will weaken the fescue , but it will come back in a few weeks. Don't apply in summer and follow directions closely. This is the only product i have found that will kill bermuda without killing the fescue too. One more thing, it takes about a week before you start seeing a yellowing or dying of the grass so be patient, it works...

Bermudagrass in Zoysia turf

I bought this herbicide because the label says it can be used to kill or suppress Bermudagrass in a Zoysia lawn. I have this problem in my lawn in Central Florida. I spot applied Ornamec 170 about 3-4 weeks ago, and put on another application after two weeks. The label states that the treatment may take one to two growing seasons to completely eradicate the problem. At this point I can state that Ornamec is certainly suppressing the Bermudagrass, and it effects the Zoysia as well but not as severely. I believe the turf will survive and the Bermudagrass will die, but do not know how long this will take. I will revise this review or add another one in the Fall when I know more.

The Bermuda grass has spread rapidly through both my front and back lawns. The grass seed mix I use is 34% Pavilion Perennial Ryegrass/ 34% Private Perennial Ryegrass/ 19% Seducer Chewings Fescue/9.85 Cindy Lou Creeping Red Fescue. Will the product harm these other grasses and kill the Bermuda grass?
Gordons Ornamec 170 Grass Herbicide is a grass killer and will harm Kentucky Bluegrass and Ryegrass if sprayed. When applied to grasses as directed (Spring/Fall), it can only be on Tall Fescue and Zoyiagrass.
My dwarf mock oranges are planted in a border of river rock separated from the lawn by concrete curbing. The lawn is mostly tall fescue, but has some Bermuda grass in it which keeps popping up next to and around the bushes, Each bush has a drip emitter. I live in Las Vegas, NV.
Gordons Ornamec 170 Grass Herbicide is not labeled for poppies, so unfortunately we cannot say how it would affect them. We would recommend doing a spot treatment first to see how they react. It is safe for a vast majority of ornamentals though
Gordons Ornamec 170 Grass Herbicide is does not list Cooks foot Dactylis gromeratal on label.
Gordons Ornamec 170 Grass Herbicide cannot be used around anything edible. Grass Out Max is an option around the listed crops on the label.
Since Gordons Ornamec 170 Grass Herbicide requires a surfactant & Speedzone EW Broadleaf Herbicide for Turf does not, we would not recommend mixing them together. However, if you would like to proceed, we would recommend doing a jar test first to see how they react together.
I have a line of blue pacific junipers (about 170 down my property line) and my Bermuda sod is invading them. I'd like to get this down as soon as possible (it's currently mid-winter in Georgia), but I'm not sure what is most effective with the Bermuda coming out of dormancy.
Gordons Ornamec 170 Grass Herbicide is safe for Star Jasmine and Asiatic Jasmine if used as directed on the product label.

For spot treatments of tall fescue using Gordons Ornamec 170 Grass Herbicide with hand-operated sprayers, make applications in the spring and fall. You will start applications after green up and take care with applications to tall fescue during the summer months (July and August). You should avoid applications when the turf is under stress due to drought, temperature extremes, or chemical injury. The rate is 2 fl.oz. of product per 1 gallon of water to treat each 1,000 square feet of turf. You will repeat application in 14-21 day intervals if regrowth occurs (may take 1-2 growing seasons for complete control).

Kids & pets may return to the area after Gordons Ornamec 170 Grass Herbicide has dried. Drying time may vary.
Gordons Ornamec 170 Grass Herbicide is actually labeled as safe to use on zoysia grass as directed, so we do not recommend using this to try and kill zoysia in your jasmine.
Unfortunately, there is not a grass killer herbicide that is labeled to control zoysia in groundcovers. You may hand pull the grass or consider spot treating it carefully using a non-selective herbicide such as Roundup QuickPRO.
The best time to treat unwanted bermudagrass is during the transition period in spring when it’s coming out of dormancy and then again in the fall as it transitions back into dormancy. This is when the bermudagrass is the weakest and most sensitive.
Gordons Ornamec 170 Grass Herbicide is only going to be effective on bermuda when it’s acitvely growing.
Keep in mind, bermudagrass is very difficult to eliminate and will require multiple applications and can take up to several seasons to fully eliminate.
Gordons Ornamec 170 Grass Herbicide works through foliar absorption to kill annual and most perennial grasses. You will see growth inhibition of the weeds typically with 48 hours of the application and can take up to 14 days to see full death of the weed.

Is it best to use a hose end sprayer or pump sprayer?
For example, if treating bermudagrass in tall fescue – the product label states to make applications in spring and fall, starting applications after spring green up. Take caution with treating in the months of July & August on tall fescue as this can injure the fescue. Repeat in 14 to 21 day intervals if regrowth occurs.
Keep in mind, bermudagrass is very difficult to eliminate and can take 1-2 growing seasons to see full results. View page 2 of the product label for application rates and for more information.

The term "control" is used, does this mean that Gordons 170 will or will not kill bermuda. Please specify. Does this product kill Bermuda, or control it?
Gordons Ornamec 170 Grass Herbicide is pnly labeled to control/suppress bermuda in fescue but may not fully kill it completely. Bermuda is very difficult to eliminate completely due to how quickly and wide spread the roots will develop. It will take repeat applications and possible 1-2 growing seasons to eliminate.
Applicaitons should be made is spring or fall and after green up. Repeat applications at 14 to 21 day intervals should regrowth occur. Take precautions during summer months (July & August) when applying to tall fescue.
