    Q
Is Grass Out used for warm weather or cool weather? What is the temperature range?
    A

Grass Out Max will work best when plants are young, but actively growing. You can make applications usually starting around 60 degrees when the plants first start growing and continue to make applications until temps reach about 85 degrees but no higher or you can cause damage to desirable growth.

    Q
I want to use Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) to kill grass but not newly planted clover.
I'm confused about the statement only in the States of Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Your Q&A isn't any help on this. Can you send me a sample to try on a small area so that I can be sure it doesn't kill my clover?
    A

We apologize,  but we are not able to send out samples of  Grass Out Max.  The manufacturer has only registered it for use on clover in the listed states.  When used as directed it will not kill clover and will kill grass only.

  • Asked by Al from Camarillo

    Q
Will Grass Out Max also kill the sod where I am trying to kill annual blue grass invading my lawn?
would like to kill the blue grass invading my sod grass
    A

While you did not state what kind of grass is in the sod that you have down, the Grass Out Max is specifically designed to kill any and all grasses it is sprayed on and ONLY kill grasses. This would not be a product you would want to use over a sod lawn and instead you would want to go with a product that is selective in either a pre or post emergent form. If you let us know what kind of lawn/sod you have, we can find a product that would better suit your needs.

Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) will NOT control sedges. Sedgehammer would be a better choice to apply around a newly planted tree. Be sure to apply on a less windy day since Sedgehammer may damage desirable shrubs and ornamental plants.

Is a surfactant recommended for use with Grass Out Max?
    A

Grass Out Max is a selective post-emergent herbicide used to control annual and perennial grasses. It is labeled for most landscape, home and garden, ornamental, agricultural and non-crop uses including strawberries. Please refer to the product label for complete usage instructions for your application. The manufacturer does recommend adding a surfactant for better results.

If you are using Non Ionic Surfactant you would mix 2 tsp per surfactant with approx. .4 oz Grass out in one gallon water over 1000 sq feet. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

    Q
What type of herbicide is beset for Johnsongrass?
It is around all of the bushes around the house on 2 1/2 acres coming up through medium sized river rock.
    A
Grassout Max is labeled to control Johnsongrass and will not harm any ornamentals or bushes that you spray it over. According to the product label you will want to use between 12-24 oz per acre. If you use the highest dilution ratio which is often needed for something as hard to control as johnsongrass, you would use roughly 0.54 ounces per 1000 sq/ft feet in no less than 2 gallons of water to get sufficient coverage through the rocks to the roots in the soil below.

  • Asked by Al from Camarillo
    01/28/2016
    Q
Will Grass Out Max kill my rose bushes?
Annual blue grass is invading my rose bush planters.
    A

Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) is a great choice for killing annual blue grass (poa annua) in ornamental beds as long as the non-target plants are well established. Per the product label, be sure to use a non-ionic surfactant with at least 80% active ingredient, although crop oil surfactants are not recommended around flowers to prevent sensitivity. Please review the product label before application.  If you are only experiencing problems in planters, then you may need to examine whether weeds are coming up from the ground below them, in which case you should move and/or add a barrier under or inside the planters. Transplanting or changing the potting soil would also ensure no new growth of unwanted plants.

  • Asked by Jackie from Los Angeles,ca

    Q
Can Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) be used on a Fescue lawn for treating annual bluegrass invasion?
    A

? Grass Out Max? is specifically designed to kill any and all grasses it is sprayed on and ONLY kill grasses. This would not be a product you would want to use over a lawn and instead you would want to go with a product that is selective in either a pre or post emergent form. Because poa annua and and fescue are so closely related, there are few products that will kill the poa annua without also harming the fescue.  The only one we are currently aware of is called Prograss. Your other options would be to either spot-treat with a Roundup-type? product and then reseed with the fescue in those areas, or you can use a preemergent like Prodiamine 65 WDG in the fall to prevent the poa from growing in the first place.

Is Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) effective against Kentucky Bluegrass spreading into my beds?
    A

Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) does not list that it will control Kentucky Bluegrass only annual bluegrass.  A better option would be a glyphosate based product like GlyPhoSel Pro taking care to avoid any spray/drift to desirables.

  • Asked by Charles from Piedmont
    10/03/2018
    Q
What is the mix ratio of Grass Out Max to a gallon of water?
    A

You will need to use 0.2-0.4 fl oz of Grass Out per 1,000 sq ft area. Like most other herbicides the exact amount of water you use is not important, it is just important to make sure you get the specified amount of product over a 1,000 sq ft area. For ease of mixing/measuring you can add the specified amount of product to 1 gallon of water to apply to a 1,000 sq ft area.
