How pet safe is Grass out?

    Q
Can I mix Grass out max with Butyrac 200? If so at what rate?
I want to mix grass out max and butyrac 200 to use on my clover and soybean food plot for deer. Can I mix the 2, or do I need to spray separately? What would be the mix rate if I can, or if I can not how long should I wait between spraying? Also does temperature have an effect on either?
    A

You could potentially mix Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) and another herbicide, however due to the number of restrictions, it is generally easier and more effective to apply such products separately. The Grass Out Max product label indicates that tank mixes of Grass Out Max and broadleaf herbicides may result in reduced grass control. If grass regrowth occurs, an additional application may be necessary.

Grass Out Max is for use on clover grown in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington only, and at rates of 6 - 16 oz per Acre in those states.

Regarding temperatures, post-emergent herbicides will be most effective when the target weeds are young and actively growing.

Always be sure to review both product labels completely and follow the more restrictive label regarding application site, grazing restrictions, pre-harvest intervals, rates, etc.

  • Asked by Harold from Plymouth, Nc

    Q
Can Grass-Out Max (clethodim herbicide) be used in a Centipede lawn to kill bermuda grass?
    A
Since Grass Out is a grass killer in general we do not recommend you try to broadcast spray it over your centipede lawn as it may cause damage. We have heard of many people using Atrazine to control Bermuda grass that is invading a centipede lawn, though because this is actually an off label usage we cannot say for sure that it will work. You can also choose to spot treat the bermudagrass growth with a glyphosate product and just reseed int hose areas.

  • Asked by Noah from Ellicott City, Md

    Q
Does this work on wavyleaf basketgrass in the woods and my lawn, and what ratio/surfactant/crop oil to use??
Assuming Grass Out will work on wavyleaf packing grass and/or Japanese stiltgrass, what mix ratio should I use? Also, what surfactant or crop oil concentrate, if any, do you recommend, and in what ratio(s)? The grass to be killed is in the woods, with some of it starting to creep into my lawn. Thanks!
    A
Wavy Basketgrass is a relatively new invasive species that is hard to control. Unfortunately, the Grass Out Max is not specifically labeled for Wavy Basketgrass so we can't say for certain whether it will work but many Master Gardeners and Universities highly recommend Clethodim or Glyphosate based herbicides such as Grassout Max and RoundUp Quick Pro. Please note that the Grassout Max and the RoundUp Quick Pro will kill grass/turf that it is sprayed on so you will need to reseed the affected area of your lawn.

  • Asked by Terry from Covina, Ca
    04/26/2015
    Q
What's the difference in these two Clethodim grass killing products?
"Grass Out Max" has active ingredient Clethodim at 25.4%. You also carry Select "Source PS Clethodim Herbicide" which shows 26.4% and specifically lists Bermudagrass BUT is not for sale in several states. What is the difference in these two? Does that extra percent qualify PS as prohibited? It's also nearly twice as expensive.
    A
Grass Out Max and PS Clethodim are basically the same product with a very small variation of active ingredient percentage. However, this variation in the percentage of Clethodim does not determine eligibility for sale and/or shipping to certain states. Each state has a registration process for herbicides and in this case the manufacturer of PS Clethodim which is Prime Source has not registered their product in several states. Therefore, when a product is not registered with the state it may not be shipped or sold there.

  • Asked by Joseph from Richmond Hill
    03/21/2017
    Q
Will Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) hurt my centipede grass?
I have bermuda grass and bahaia grass in my lawn that I want to eradicate.
    A

Since Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) is a grass killer in general we do not recommend you try to broadcast spray it over your centipede lawn as it may cause damage. Unfortunately centipede and bermuda grasses are so closely related that any product that would kill the bermuda would also kill the centipede. In this type of situation, we usually recommend using a glyphosate product such as Roundup Quik Pro to spot treat the bermuda grass as much as possible, and then replanting the centipede in a couple of weeks when the bermuda is gone.

    Q
How much Grass Out Max should I use per gallon of water to control poa annua?
I would like to kill poa annua in my Bermuda grass lawn.
    A

Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) can eradicate Bermuda and Poa Annua. Revolver Herbicide is a post-emergent herbicide that is labeled to kill poa annua in Bermudagrass. Be sure to apply this product in temperatures above 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The mixing ratio is 0.2-0.4 fl. oz. per 1000 square feet. This will generally mix in a gallon of water.

  • Asked by Angie from Bakersfield, Ca

    Q
Will Grass Out Max kill poa that is growing in rye grass that also has dormant Bermuda?
I live in Bakersfield where we overseed our Bermuda grass with Rye each winter.. The Rye has Poa growing in the shaded areas of lawn. If i spray it now over Rye/Poa will the Bermuda be safe? And is it pet safe once dry?
    A

Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) is a grass killer and would kill both the rye and the bermuda.  To kill poa annua in rye grassm, you would need to spot treat with a glyphosate based product such as Gly Pho-Sel Pro.  These grasses are closely related so there is no selective product label to kill one that would not also kill the other.  If you still see poa once the Bermuda is no longer dormant, you can use a product like Certainty.

  • Asked by Joyce from Cambridge, Id

    Q
Will Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) kill Canadian and Bull Thistle? If so, when is the best time to spray?
I have tried many different products, organic and not, and the thistles keep coming back year after year. Even tried digging them out and that just seems to make the thistles multiiply the following year. Recommendations?
    A

Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) is not labelled for Canadian & Bull Thistle. Tenacity Herbicide is labelled to treat Canadian Thistle, but doe does not list Bull Thistle. Herbicides containing glyphosate like Roundup QuickPro can effectively control bull thistle. Mowing may need to be repeated throughout the season to prevent reflowering
