  • Asked by Ed from Smis, Ca
    10/10/2016
    Q
Is the Grubs Away Insecticide NOT effective certain months of the year?
    A

Grubs Away Insecticide is most effective when grass is actively growing so that it is absorbed through the roots.  When grass is dormant it would not absorb and translocate the product throughout.

Depending on your location and the pest your are trying to treat for, application of Grubs Away can be anytime between mid May and mid August.  We recommend contacting your local cooperative extension office to ask about insecticide timing for the pests in your region. These offices are an invaluable resource when dealing with pests and most have a master gardener and an entomologist on staff to answer pest insect questions.

    Q
Why is Grubs Away Insecticide better than Bayer Season Long Grub Control?
    A

We do not like to say that products are better than others. The Grubs Away Insecticide is a professional grade product and does contain a higher percentage of the active ingredient than the Bayer Season Long Grub Control. Each bag of the Grubs Away Insecticide will treat 20,000 square feet as well.

  • Asked by John from Weston, Ct
    05/24/2018
    Q
How long is Grubs Away Insecticide effective against pests?
will a second application be necessary?
    A

Grubs Away Insecticide can last a few months in the soil but can be applied multiple times throughout the year as grubs can be actively feeding in both the spring and the fall.  Also a second application close to the first may be needed to help eliminate those grubs that were not near the surface at the time of the first application.  However, contact your local extension office to speak to the master gardener about the best time to treat white grubs in your area

  • Asked by Roni from Sunrise Beach, Fl
    09/03/2016
    Q
What is the best product to control grubs?
Specifically from Japanese beetles in garden and lawn
    A

To treat specifically for Japanese beetle grubs, Milky Spore would be the best for both lawn and any edible garden. Milky Spore is harmless to food crops. It is not a chemical pesticide. It may be used in gardens, around pools and wells. Though we will say that if you are in Florida, you do not have Japanese Beetles grubs as they have yet to be identified as a pest in the state at all.  You would need to use a product like Grubs Away for the lawn only which is labeled for the more commons species of grubs found in your area. To find out when the best time to apply is, you would need to contact your local Master Gardener to make sure you are apply the product at the right cycle in your area to get the most results from the product. Applying it too early in their cycle or too late can cause you to only see partial results.

A product that would be safe to treat the soil in your garden would be the Fruit Tree & Vegetable Systemic Soil Drench.Grubs are on this label and your harvest interval after application is going to vary from 7-21 days so be sure to read the product label to see which applies to your vegetables.

  • Asked by John from San Antonio, Tx
    10/04/2019
    Q
How quickly will Grubs Away Insecticide take effect once applied?
    A

Grubs Away Insecticide is best applied before insects are active as it can take a few weeks to be completely absorbed by the roots.  If applied when insects are already active it can have limited results as it has to be ingested by the insects feeding on the treated areas.   We recommend contacting your local cooperative extension office to ask about insecticide timing for the pests in your region to be sure you apply at the optimum time. These offices are an invaluable resource when dealing with pests and most have a master gardener and an entomologist on staff to answer pest insect questions.
