  • Asked by Sylvia
    05/25/2015
    Q
I want to spray my cenipede lawn to kill sand burrs. Is this the product I need?
    A
Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer cannot be applied on sensitive grasses such as Zoysia, Centipede and St. Augustine. To prevent sandburs you should apply Barricade as a pre-emergent in the late fall. Be sure to read over the Barricade product label to make sure your grass species is listed as a tolerant variety. Sandburs are easier to prevent than to try to get rid of once they have invaded your yard.

    Q
Can Hi Yield 2-4 D be used to kill clover in Myrtle ground cover?
Have used Round Up (75% concentration) and had limited damage to Myrtle.
    A

Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer  is not labeled to safely be applied to Myrtle ground cover, so we cannot recommend it. Spot treating with a glyphosate product such as RoundUp QuikPro would be the best and safest option.

  • Asked by Valerie from La Vernia, Texas 78121
    12/11/2015
    Q
Will Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer kill Johnson Grass?
I was recommended this, yet the label does not indicate that it will. The soil is sandy, there are millions of seeds on the ground from neglect over a couple of years. The area is located just southeast of San Antonio. I have a serious back problem, yet what I have been doing is digging up the plants and any roots and burning them. However, 3/4 of an acre is a large area to dig up. I can't afford to hire a guy to do this as I am on disability, and I have no one who will help me in this endeavor. What is the proper chemical to use, that does not cost an arm and a leg? Thanks for any help you can give this gal with a back problem.
    A

Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer will target broadleaf weeds such as dandelion, plantain, and chickweed, and is made to be used safely in many types of turfgrass, so it will not be effective for eradicating Johnsongrass. We are not sure if you need to kill the Johsongrass in a turf area or around ornamentals, so it is hard for us to make a recommendation. You can use a grass killer such as Grass Out Max to kill Johnsongrass around listed ornamental shrubs and trees, but it is not safe to use in your turfgrass. Otherwise, you may need to just spot treat with a non-selective herbicide such as RoundUp QuikPro, and then re-seed the turf. There are also pre-emergent herbicides for Johsongrass, but we would need to know the type of turf you have to make this recommendation. Surflan AS is a popular choice for listed warm-season turf. You may also contact our Customer Service department at 866-581-7378 M-F 9a-5p EST for further assistance.

  • Asked by Hans from Beaumont, Ca
    12/23/2015
    Q
What is the mixing ratio of Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer to treat oxalis or woodsorrel?
    A

Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer is not labeled for oxalis or woodsorrel. 2,4-D on its own generally will not provide adequate control of this weed. We are happy to provide another recommendation if you would like to tell us what type of lawn you have and how much area are you treating. We sell many pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides that are labeled for this weed. You can also view more information about this weed and both environmental and chemical control in this article from UC Davis.
