    Q
Will Hi-Yield 55% Malathion Insecticide Spray kill mosquitoes?
    A
Malathion is not labeled to kill mosquitoes so we cannot recommend it as a treatment.

Talstar is our most popular selling product for mosquito control.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio you are trying to provide relief at.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out.  It should be applied every 30 days for optimum control.  Best of all it will not harm any birds in the area.

    Q
Can you use Hi-Yield 55% Malathion on purplehull peas? If so how long before harvest can you spray?
    A
Hi-Yield 55% Malathion has a very specific product label and can only be used on the vegetables listed, Tomatoes, Cabbage, and Potatoes. Malathion has been under scrutiny by the EPA and it has been severely restricted because of this. Fertilome Triple Action II may be a better choice for your needs. Please take a few moments to read over the product label to be sure it is labeled for the types of pests you are having issues with. Fertilome Triple Action Plus II can be used up to the day of harvest.

    Q
Can I use malathion in a (hot) fogger?
    A
Malathion 55% is not labeled to be applied from a fogger, hot or cold.  It should be applied from a hand pump sprayer or gas powered/electric sprayer.  We do have products that are labeled for use in a thermal fogger.  One of the most popular is Bonide Bug Beater Lawn & Garden Fog.

    Q
I have a lot of fleas outside and small roaches inside. Can you recommend something?
    A
Bifen IT would be a good choice for the fleas outside and the small roaches inside. You should also add an Insect Growth Regulator such as Martins IGR to control the developing insects that are usually hidden away and are not controlled by insecticide alone. A roach bait gel such as the Maxforce FC Roach bait Gel should be used to get rid of the roaches that are located in areas where you cannot spray. Please take a few moments to read our articles How to Get rid of Fleas and How to Get Rid of Roaches to learn more about controlling these pests.

    Q
Can Hi-Yield 55% Malathion Insecticide Spray be used to control ticks in the yard?
    A
Hi-Yield 55% Malathion Insecticide Spray is not labeled for use on lawn or for ticks. Talstar P would be a great choice for outdoor tick control. We also recommend adding an insect growth regulator such as Archer IGR to Talstar to stop the ticks from being able to develop while you are trying to eliminate the infestation. You will use 1 oz of Talstar +  1oz of Archer IGR per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft area. Do not make spot applications. Treat the entire area where exposure to ticks may occur. Use more water (not more product) when treating areas with dense ground cover or heavy leaf litter. Ticks may be reintroduced from surrounding areas on host animals. Re-treatment may be necessary to achieve and/or maintain control during periods of high pest pressure. All of your dogs should be treated with a product that is specifically labeled for use on dogs for tick control.

You can also help by creating a "tick safe zone" in your yard. You should have an area that is at least 9 ft wide between your yard and any wooded area. Trim back trees to allow as much sunlight as possible into your yard. Keep grass as short. Remove as much leaf litter as possible. A clearly defined, well manicured border between your yard and any wooded areas or weedy lots will reduce the chance of ticks infesting your yard.

    Q
Will Malthion kill clover mites? Is it safe to spray on brick and concrete; will it stain?
We haven't noticed any in the house, so we want to get this problem under control outside. We do see them on our front porch. Thank you.
    A
Hi-Yield 55% Malathion Insecticide Spray is not labeled to be sprayed on structures so we are not sure if it will stain brick or concrete. We recommend you use Talstar P which is labeled for clover mites and can be sprayed on structures and will not stain brick or concrete.
