    Q
How often do I apply this Hi-Yield Aluminum Sulfate to my hydrangea to keep it blue?
    A

Per the product label: Recheck the pH two weeks after application. If needed, reapply only to those areas where the desirable pH is required to maintain vigorous plants. Hi-Yield Aluminum Sulfate helps create an acid soil condition which is desirable for hydrangeas (blue).  By acidifying the soil, Hi-Yield Aluminum Sulfate can maintain or change the color of Hydrangea flowers. Blue Hydrangeas require Aluminum as an acidifier, to retain their blue color. They should not be fed a Phosphate fertilizer due to the fact that it has a tendency to “tie-up” Aluminum.

    Q
Can I keep a purple hydrangea purple using Hi-Yield Aluminum Sulfate?
At end of blooming last year some blooms were turning pinkish. My nursery recommend HI-YIELD aluminum sulfate in dry form which I bought but the package doesn't give me enough info. My plant is in a 14"pot with the hydrangea growing about 2'. How much without harming the plant is appropriate. The nursery also advised watering it in with Acid Loving, water soluble plant food 31-11-11. Your response would be appreciated.
    A

Per the product label for Hi-Yield Aluminum Sulfate: Use 1 lb. per 3 ft. of height. Mix 1 lb. in 5 gallons of water and apply at the drip line of the Shrub. HI-YIELD ALUMINUM SULFATE can also be spread dry around the drip line and watered in.  If you spread dry we would recommend you use 2/3 lb per 2 ft of height and then water in with sufficient water or you could use the mix of Ferti-Lome Acid Loving Water Soluble Plant Food 31-11-11 following the rates on its label.
