Before using Hi-Yield Aluminum Sulfate test your soil pH and if the pH is above 7.0 then this product will be effective in bringing the pH down towards 5.5 which is desirable for plants that require more acidic soils. Plants such as Hydrangeas (blue), Azaleas, Camellias, Rhododendrons, Gardenias, and Holly thrive in more acidic soils.
With Hydrangeas remeber that Hi-Yield Aluminum Sulfate can turn white or pink blossoms to blue.
Do not use Phosphate fertilizers with this product as the phosphate will make the Aluminum less available to plants.

HI-YIELD ALUMINUM SULFATE is used primarily to acidify soils. Determine current pH level with a soil test. If pH is above 7.0, an application of Aluminum Sulfate will be effective in lowering soil pH to the 5.5 range which is desirable for growing acid-loving plants. Recheck the soil pH two weeks after application. If needed, reapply only to those areas where the desirable pH is required to maintain vigorous plants.
HI-YIELD ALUMINUM SULFATE helps create an acid soil condition (corrects excess alkalinity) which is desirable to the growth of certain type plants, such as Azaleas, Rhododendrons, Camellias, Gardenias, Hydrangeas (blue), Junipers, Yews, Cypress, Magnolia, Oak, Pine and certain others.
By acidifying the soil, HI-YIELD ALUMINUM SULFATE can maintain or change the color of Hydrangea flowers. Blue Hydrangeas require Aluminum as an acidifier, to retain their blue color. They should not be fed a Phosphate fertilizer due to the fact that it has a tendency to “tie-up” Aluminum. Do not use HI-YIELD ALUMINUM SULFATE on white or pink varieties unless a color to blue is desired

At end of blooming last year some blooms were turning pinkish. My nursery recommend HI-YIELD aluminum sulfate in dry form which I bought but the package doesn't give me enough info. My plant is in a 14"pot with the hydrangea growing about 2'. How much without harming the plant is appropriate. The nursery also advised watering it in with Acid Loving, water soluble plant food 31-11-11. Your response would be appreciated.
Per the product label for Hi-Yield Aluminum Sulfate: Use 1 lb. per 3 ft. of height. Mix 1 lb. in 5 gallons of water and apply at the drip line of the Shrub. HI-YIELD ALUMINUM SULFATE can also be spread dry around the drip line and watered in. If you spread dry we would recommend you use 2/3 lb per 2 ft of height and then water in with sufficient water or you could use the mix of Ferti-Lome Acid Loving Water Soluble Plant Food 31-11-11 following the rates on its label.
