COMMON CHIGGER CONTROL
For control of Chiggers in the yard, dust over the entire lawn, flower garden, shrubs and any place the Chiggers may be hiding. This should be done a day or two before protection is desired and should be repeated at weekly intervals. 4 lbs. will cover from 1,500 to 2,000 square feet.
IMPORTANT: Do not use within 2 weeks of an oil spray treatment, on Citrus within 3 to 6 weeks. Use only according to state recommendations. Sulfur may burn foliage when temperature is high (90-95°F).
Powder is not very dissolvable for spraying. If mixture is stirred well but left to sit for 5-10 minutes, it coagulates and collects at bottom of sprayer. Even after re-stirring, the liquid does not want to exit sprayer very well.
Will Hi Yield Dusting Sulfur control apple scab when it is already significantly present in trees?
We had a very wet spring in MA. Missed a spray application and now our trees have become heavily infected with scab and some other type of fungus (not sure exactly what it is.) Normally we just use Captan and Rally - but neither does much post infection.
Hi Yield Dusting Wettable Sulfur does say on the product label that it will control scab on plants whether it is a preventative or curative use. Depending on the type of scab, and if there are other diseases or insects present causing other damage, the applications may have to be applied more frequently and for longer than normal. You may need a systemic product as well if its a root disease. Try to get a sample of the tree to take to a local Master Gardner in your area to see if you can identify exactly what you have to make sure you are using the best products for your needs. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Why does the label for Hi-Yield Dusting Wettable Sulfur say it is for powdery mildew but do not use on cucurbits?
Hi-Yield Dusting Wettable Sulfur should only be applied to variety of Roses, Shrubs, Flowers, Ornamentals, Vegetables and Fruits - Beans, Peas, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Apples, Pears and Citrus. The manufacturer deems it safe for them only if used as directed for powdery mildew.
