DIRECTIONS FOR USE
HI-YIELD GROWERS SPECIAL is designed for controlled feeding of container plants, trees, shrubs, and lawns. The slow release Nitrogen in HI-YIELD GROWERS SPECIAL reduces the risk of Nitrogen burn and is Chlorine free.
CONTAINER PLANTS
Apply one teaspoonful per 6-inch pot and 2 tablespoons per square foot of soil surface in large containers every 6 weeks during the growing season. Apply by sprinkling a light coating over container surface being careful not to pile fertilizer next to the stem of the plant.
SHRUBS AND ORNAMENTALS
In early spring, apply 1 ½ to 2 lbs. per 100 sq. ft. (10’x10’) area broadcast lightly over soil under the spread of branches to just beyond. Again in the fall apply 1 lb. per 100 sq. ft. of the area for continued feeding and winter protection.
TREES
Fertilize your trees by spreading evenly to ground out under the widest spread of branches to slightly beyond. Feed your trees twice a year (in early spring and late fall) by applying 3 lbs. of HI-YIELD GROWERS SPECIAL for each inch of trunk diameter. Water in well after application.?
LAWNS
HI-YIELD GROWERS SPECIAL will help your lawn maintain good color and vigor with just 2 feedings per year. The slow release components will provide adequate food for lawn grasses such as Fescues, Bluegrasses, Centipedegrass, St. Augustine and Bermuda. Apply 10 to 15 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. (4 lbs. per 333 sq. ft.) of lawn in late spring and again in early fall. Use 20 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft (4 lbs. per 200 sq. ft.) on Bermudagrass and no more than 10 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft (4 lbs. per 400 sq. ft.) on Centipedegrass. Water well after application.

I know it's safe for lawns, shrubs, trees and potted plants, but I'm specifically asking if it's SAFE to use on vegetable and fruit plants where the veggies/fruits will later be consumed. Thanks!

Unfortunately, we do not have the spreader settings for that specific combo, and since the manufacturer does not list that spreader on their bag we are unsure what the exact setting would be. Due to the thousands of granules on the market and just as many different types of spreaders, there isn't a master list that exists. You may want to try calling the manufacturer of your spreader or the chemical itself directly, to see if anyone on their staff has that info. Otherwise, you will want to calibrate your spreader to the product you are using and its application rates. You can see a short video on How to Calibrate Your Spreader HERE.
Yes, when used as directed on the product label it is safe for animals to return to areas treated with Hi - Yield Growers Special 12 - 6 - 6 once dry, typically after 4-6 hours.
