Howard Johnson’s Dimension 0.27G Herbicide is a professional-grade granular pre-emergent herbicide designed to prevent many common grassy and broadleaf weeds in lawns and landscaped areas. Formulated with 0.27% dithiopyr, the same active ingredient used in professional turf programs, this granular weed preventer helps stop weeds such as crabgrass, poa annua, chickweed, oxalis, and spurge before they emerge. In addition to pre-emergent control of weeds, the active ingredient in Howard Johnson Dimension, dithiopyr, also provides early post-emergent control of crabgrass when applied before the weed reaches the tiller or 3-leaf growth stage. This means that if you are a little late with your early spring pre-emergent application, you may still be able to control young crabgrass weeds.
HJE Dimension 0.27G is a weed preventer commonly used by lawn care professionals, golf courses, and homeowners who want weed control in established cool and warm season lawns, ornamental landscapes, established turfgrass, and container and field-grown nurseries. When applied at the proper time, Howard Johnson Dimension Pre-Emergent Herbicide creates a protective barrier in the soil that prevents weed seeds from germinating.

Howard Johnson’s Dimension 0.27G Herbicide can be used on:
Established residential lawns
Cool-season and warm-season turfgrass
Ornamental landscape beds
Golf course fairways, roughs, and tee boxes
Commercial sod farms
Field-grown nursery ornamentals
Container-grown nursery stock
Always confirm your specific turfgrass species and application timing on the label before applying.
Pre-emergent herbicides, like HJE Dimension, work best before weed seeds germinate. Timing is critical for effective control. Typical application windows include:
Early Spring: Prevent crabgrass and summer annual weeds
Late Summer to Early Fall: Prevent winter weeds like poa annua
Split Applications: Two applications in the Spring or two applications in the fall to provide extended protection throughout each growing season
A good rule of thumb is to apply spring pre-emergent when soil temperatures remain at about 50–55°F for several days, when crabgrass begins to germinate.
See our guides on Spring Pre-Emergents and Fall Pre-Emergents to learn more about the best time to apply.
Howard Jonhsons Dimension 0.27G is applied with a granular spreader and watered into the soil after application. Follow these basic application steps for lawn applications for the best results:
Calibrate your drop or rotary spreader before use.
Apply the product evenly across the turf area.
For more uniform coverage, apply half the product in one direction and the other half perpendicular to the first pass.
