Safety Products

Please be sure to read the product label of any insecticide you choose to use to get information on the personal protective safety gear you will need. In most situations, it is recommended that you wear long pants, a long sleeved shirt, closed toe shoes with socks, chemical resistant gloves, and goggles. In areas where ventilation is poor, a manufacturer may recommend you wear a mask or a respirator. We have put together two different safety kits that will make selecting the correct safety gear easier for you.

What is Hydroprene?

What is Hydroprene?

Hydroprene is a yellowish-brown liquid that is water soluble and flammable under heat or pressure. Under normal storage conditions, hydroprene remains stable for 3 years plus. Insecticides containing hyrdoprene should be used indoors only.

Hydroprene As an IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) Insecticide

Hydroprene is most often used as an active ingredient in pesticides known as IGRs (Insect Growth Regulators) targeting roaches, drain flies, fruit flies, bedbugs, and stored product pests.

What does an IGR do?

An IGR disrupts and impedes the life cycle of insects in the egg and larvae stage of development. The idea with an IGR is that if an insect cannot reach adulthood, it cannot reproduce. In short, IGR is a form of "birth control" for pests which helps keep the populations of unwanted pests under control by preventing current and future infestations. Since IGRs address only the problem of reproduction but do not actually kill the adult insect, it is always a good idea to use a knockdown-and-kill insecticide along with the IGR for ultimate population control.

The following products contain Hydroprene:

  • Gentrol IGR Concentrate-Insect Growth Regulator that distrupts the normal development of roaches, drain flies, fruit flies, bedbugs, and stored product pests. 1 oz. bottle
  • Gentrol Aerosol - IGR-Aerosol containing IGR (Insect growth regulator) that disrupts pest development, preventing current and future infestations

Hydroprene is classified "Very Low in Toxicity" by the EPA.

While it is excellently effective against insect pests, Hydroprene has a very low toxic level to humans and pets. To insure safety, always be sure to read all instructions on the pest control product label before use.
