    Q
How can you calm the smell of Martins Surrender Fire Ant Killer product ?
    A

Unfortunately there is no way to neutralize the smell of Martins Surrender Fire Ant Killer. It should only last a couple days outdoors. We would advise storing it somewhere you do not often visit. You can try Earth Care Odor Remover Bag but overall anything with Acephate is going to have this strong potent smell

Martins Surrender Fire Ant Killer is only labeled for Imported Fire Ants and Harvester Ants. It is not labeled to control any other insects and should not be used in such applications off the Martins Surrender Fire Ant Killer product label

    Q
Can Martins Surrender Fire Ant Killer be applied near wells? The product label mentions avoiding surface water, but not sure how this will affect being on a well.
    A

Since Martins Surrender Fire Ant Killer is only labeled for direct mound treatments of fire ants and not a liquid concentrate or granule insecticide that is mixed with water or required to be watered in, there should be no concern applying to properties with a well. We do recommend keeping 5ft away from the well opening as a precaution.

  • Asked by M. from Liberty Hill, Tx

    Q
Will Martins Surrender Fire Ant Killer kill the queens?
Since it is a contact killer, I'm assuming it may not kill the queen. Is this accurate?
    A

Martin's Surrender Fire Ant Killer is not considered a bait since it does not include specific food attractants. The ants contact this product and ingest the active ingredient when they groom. So while this does not cause traditional transfer like other baits, you will still see fast results that usually result in colony collapse.

    Q
Is Martins Surrender Fire Ant Killer safe in yard area for Guineas Fowl ( like chickens)?
Your answer to previous question said keep chickens off area treated for a few hours. After that you said use another product. Which is correct?
    A

Martins Surrender Fire Ant Killer is safe to use if the Guineas Fowl , chickens or other birds are not in the area and cannot access the mounds at all. They can return to the area once rain has washed the area. For areas where animals actually graze on the grass we recommended Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait since Martins Surrender Fire Ant Killer is not labeled to be used around cattle, horses, or anywhere animals will be grazing.

    Q
Exactly how does Martins Surrender Fire Ant Killer kill the fire ants?
    A

Martins Surrender Fire Ant Killer contains acephate, which is an organophosphate insecticide.  When insects ingest it, their bodies turn the acephate into another stronger insecticide chemical called methamidophos, both of which affect the nervous system, causing over-activity in the nerves, muscles, or brain.
