    Q
Do your products contain substances that contribute to bee colony collapse?
Do any of your products contain neonicotinoids and coumaphos, or any other chemicals known to inhibit the ability of bees in any way, to pollinate crops? I am referring to all your products but am presently concerned about TALSTAR. Please do not answer me by saying "no substantive proof exists linking bee deaths to....." etc. Thank you for your attention to my question.
    A
We do carry many products that fall into the neonicotinoids class of insecticides and a few products that would fall into the coumaphos class of insecticides. Talstar is not one of them. Talstar falls into the pyrethroid class of insetcicides. It is still very important not to apply Talstar P to areas where bees are activiely foraging as the product is non-selective and will kill bees. We also carry Mavrik Perimeter which after it has dried is non toxic to bees and may be an option for folks that have a concern about bee colony collapse. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I am always happy to help.

    Q
Can Mavrik Perimeter be used to control small hive beetles in honey bee hives? Varroa mites?
If so, how should it be applied? Any side affects? Is it similar to Mavrik Aquaflow?
    A
The most commonly purchased product for hive beetle control is the Maxforce FC Roach Bait stations. These stations are purchased by honey bee farmers and seem to be very effective. We have not had any information on anyone using the Mavrik Perimeter for varroa mites. We recommend calling the Mavrik manufacturer, Zoecon for more information 800-934-3532

  • Asked by Jason from Nj
    07/23/2016
    Q
What is the residual of Mavrik Perimeter? How does it compare to Talstar P for mosquito control?
    A

Mavrik is going to be most effective as a contact spray and can continue to control certain insect pests for a week or longer though it should be reapplied as needed. Talstar P will have a residual of about 30 days outside.  The key with mosquito treatments is to apply to the underside of leaves of trees and bushes as this is where the adults lay during the day.

  • Asked by Terry from Shreveport,
    11/18/2014
    Q
Please tell me the difference in Mavrik Perimeter and Mavrik Aquaflow
I will be using the insecticide to spray roses. I usually mix in a 3 gallon sprayer.
    A
Mavrik Aquaflow has been discontinued by the manufacturer and replaced with the Mavrik Perimeter. They both have the same amount of the active ingredient in them. Mavrik Perimeter is for commercial use on outdoor plants in ornamental plantings, plantscapes (including trees and shrubs, roses, flowerbeds, and gardens) and for perimeter treatment around buildings and outside surfaces.

    Q
Is there an insecticide product safe for honey bees?
We just bought a hive and a package of honey bees. We have a mosquito issue every year and I was using Bifen IT and Nygaurd to control them, but I need to know if there is anything else I can use that will not harm my honey bees
    A

The only product we carry that would not be harmful to bees once dry is Mavrik Perimeter.  We would recommend applying early morning or late evening when they are less active.

  • Asked by Jim from Crawfordsville

    Q
Will Mavrik Perimeter penetrate bagworms and kill the eggs in the female larvae?
    A

Eggs incubate over winter in the bag, emerge as worms in late May, and the cycle begins all over again. Mavrik Perimeter is labeled for bagworms at 1.2-3 ml per gallon of water. Insecticides are not effective when the bagworms are in their protective casings.

Would it be safe to spray on grapes and vines for control of spider mites and ants? Would not harm bees.

  • Asked by Maureen

    Q
I suspect spider mites, what do you recommend?
I have 2 Alberta Spruce that have turned brown and lost needles. I suspect spider mites, what do you recommend?
    A
Talstar P works well for both the mature and the immature spider mites. Talstar P provides optimal spider mite control when applied during spring to mid-summer. Higher application rates and/or more frequent treatments may be required for acceptable spider mite control during mid- to late-summer. The addition of a surfactant or horticultural oil may increase the effectiveness of Talstar. Talstar applications may be rotated with those of other products  that have different modes of action in control programs that are designed  to manage resistance by twospotted spider mites. Consult your local Cooperative Extension Service for resistance management recommendations in your region.

  • Asked by Scott from Frenchtown
    06/19/2018
    Q
Can either Mavrik Perimeter or Mosquito Guard be mixed with 2,4-D safely and effectively?
    A

There are not restrictions on mixing most herbicides and insecticides; however, we do not recommend mixing broadleaf herbicides with products you are using for mosquito control such as Mavrik. This is because you will need to treat ornamental shrubs, low tree branches, etc. to treat for mosquitoes effectively, yet an herbicide like 2,4-D will harm these desirable ornamental plants. You can view more tips in our Mosquito Treatment Guide here.

    Q
Can Mavrik Perimeter and Talstar P be tank mixed together to treat for stubborn mosquitoes outdoors around windows and sides of the house?
    A

We do not recommend mixing two residual insecticides like Mavrik Perimeter and Talstar P. We advise that you use an IGR like Tekko Pro with Talstar to increase the results. You also need to spray on a schedule every 21-28 days. Please view our How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes Treatment Guide for more information.
