    Q
What will kill leaf cutter ants?
These have migrated from Texas to west central Louisiana and the area for mounds is very large, 500 sq ft. We saw today, the ants carrying red bud flowers and entering a hole 100' from their mound. We need help and in a hurry.
    A

Leaf cutter ants can be a difficult pest to get rid of. The colonies are large and the ants make their own food so poison baits only have limited effects on this species of ants. According to several university websites, Maxforce Complete Granules containing hydramethlynon are some what effective, though they will usually eliminate only about 30% of a large colony in one treatment and will need to be reapplied several times.  DeltaGard granules is one of the only products actually labeled for leaf cutter ants. The product label recommends treating the mound directly and lightly watering the granules in. Again, it may take several treatments to get the desired results. We also recommend contacting your local cooperative extension office to see if they have any recommendations for products that have worked for other people in your region.

    Q
How safe is Maxforce Complete Granular Bait when used around cats and dogs?
We just moved into a house in south fl which has a 2.5 acre yard overcome by ants. They are everywhere. We built a 35 x35 enclosure to allow our cats and dogs out. A couple of cats prefer to be out there 24/7. How safe is this product for my cats and dogs if I sprinkle it on the deck and in the yard they live in? I don't want anything remotely dangerous to them. If this is not the right product, can you suggest another?
    A
Maxforce Complete Granular Bait is safe for pets when applied as directed. It is such a small amount of active ingredient it should not harm pets. You may also want to try bait stations. Maxforce Complete Brand Granular Insect Bait may be sprinkled around structures and/or applied to refillable/serviceable bait stations as outlined below. Sprinkle this product evenly in a 1-2 foot wide band adjacent to the structure at a rate of 0.5 oz (one tablespoon) of bait per 25 linear feet. NOTE: Around structures the total application should not exceed 4-8 oz per 200-400 linear feet (or 0.5 oz per 25 linear feet). A typical application would be 4-8 oz adjacent to an average sized home of 200-400 linear feet. Be sure to treat areas such as porches, patios, driveways, sidewalks, flower gardens, landscape timbers and around trees, wood piles, air conditioning units and garbage receptacles.

Does rain affect Maxforce Complete Granular Bait ? Should I put more after days of rain?
    A
Rain can cause the Maxforce Complete Granular Bait to wash away or get moldy which makes it less attractive. We do recommend re-applying the bait after heavy rains.

I had it spayed professionally the last 2 seasons with "Demand" but this seems only to last a while and then they are back. I don't know where they come from, but they bite or pinch the kids when they get on them. What do you recommend for them? Should I keep using Demand or something else?
    A
We recommend that you use an ant bait granule such as Maxforce Complete Ant Bait in your yard surrounding the pool to help control the ants before they try to go for a swim. Demand is a great product but it will only kill the ants that come into direct contact with treated areas leaving the ants back at the nest to continue to cause issues. The best approach would be to use the bait granules in the yard and to spray around the pool (at least 10 ft from the pool) with the Demand CS. This two pronged ant control program would give faster results that would last longer than spraying alone.

    Q
    Maxforce Fine Granule?
I used to use MF Fine Granule with great effect on Argentne ants. Is Fine Granule still available, and is this new version small enough granules to work well on Argentine ants?
    A
The Maxforce Complete has replaced the previous versions of the Maxforce granules that covers a wider range of ants, including argentine, as well as other insects, and is a mixture of both fine and medium sized granules. You will get the same control with these as you did with the fine which is no longer available.

    Q
How do I get rid of ants in rock bed next to house? I've tried Talstar P and got rid of roaches not ants.
Regular small ants spray not penetrating under rocks
    A

If you are able to move the rock bed to access the soil underneath, that will provide you the best results. Talstar P works as a repellent but does not work to kill off the colony. Using Termidor SC as a perimeter spray 1ft up and 1ft out from the structure will provide you with 6 month ant control. But with out being able to access the dirt area under the rocks, you might not get full results.

Using Maxforce Complete Granular Bait sprinkling as a bad around the structure or in bait plate stations will help as well.

Maxforce Complete Brand Granular Bait may be sprinkled around structures and/or applied to refillable/serviceable bait stations as outlined below. Be sure to treat areas such as porches, patios, driveways, sidewalks, flower gardens, landscape timbers and around trees, wood piles, air conditioning units and garbage receptacles.

    Q
Will this kill birds? (I don't want to kill birds)
I have noticed birds picking around in my lawn where I sprinkled this stuff and I really do not want to harm them. Will this kill birds or harm them?
    A
Maxforce Complete Granular Bait is only large enough to kill small insects, it could still harm birds. If they consume large amounts, or are especially sensitive. We recommend to try and use the products in areas the birds could not get to.

I'm looking for a good granular ant killer to broadcast in the yard.
I treat the ant hills in the yard and more just pop up. They're not in the house but I find dead ones under the house where I sprayed Cyper WP.

It will treat various types of ants including, Acrobat, Argentine, Big Headed, Carpenter, Cornfield, Field, imported and native Fire Ants, Ghost, Harvester, Odorous House Pavement, Pharaoh, and Thief Ants. Q
How can I kill ants in the yard?
I have lots of ant in the yard around my lake home.
    A

A granule product such as Maxforce Complete Granules would be an excellent option for ants in your lawn. You will broadcast it across your lawn in the places where you have seen activity or used inside of Bait Plate Stations. Maxforce Complete has a unique formula with a mixture of proteins, simple sugars, fats and complex carbohydrates in a food-based granular structure that is irresistible to insects.

    Q
How much time before rain can you apply Maxforce Complete Granular Bait and it still be effective?
I'm trying to treat ant mounds in between rain episodes.
    A

Rain can cause the Maxforce Complete Granular Bait to wash away or get moldy which makes it less attractive. We do recommend re-applying the bait after heavy rains and apply when rain is not expected within 24 hours of application. Since ants are most active at night, apply just before sunset.

    Q
Used Maxforce, ants now walking AROUND bait stations. Now what?
They look like Argentine ants, your typical small brown trailing ants. I put the newly filled bait stations in the trails as directed. The ants checked them out, took a few of the bait pieces, then simply walked over, then around the stations. Am I stuck with four pounds of this stuff that they won't eat? I need help.
    A
Ants are very fickle. It may be that they are just not foraging right now. To test if they are, place a potato chip in the ant trail to see if they take it. Maxforce Complete granular bait is specifically designed for Argentine ants among many other pest.

    Q
I have many ant hills all over my grass, how do I get rid of them?
    A
We recommend that you try an ant bait granule that the ants would actually pick up and take down into the mound instead of spraying. Maxforce Complete Granular Bait would be a great choice for most ant species. While ant baits will work for most ant species there are a couple of ant species that do not readily take bait. We recommend that you contact your local cooperative extension office and ask if they can help you identify the ants on your property.

    Q
Do you have any Maxforce products that still use 1% Hydramethylnon?
I have noticed that Maxforce Fire Ant Killer Granular bait no longer uses Hydramethylnon, but instead uses Fipronil. I have tried it, and it hasn't killed the ant colonies in my yard. Do you have any Maxforce products that still use 1% Hydramethylnon?
    A

Yes, there is a Maxforce Complete Granular Bait that is labeled for Fire Ants as well as all other types of ants and other insects.  This product was such a good seller that Maxforce stopped producing the specific fire ant brand.  It has the same 1% Hydramethylnon as the old Maxforce Fire Ant Bait had.

    Q
Will Maxforce Complete Granular Bait eliminate leaf cutter ants but not effect the Tarantulas?
I've got several mounds of ants over my 1/2 acre property in Tucson. I also have several Tarantula on my property, which I like because they eat scorpions, etc. So, my primary concern is get rid of the ants (leaf cutter mainly) and keep my tarantulas.
    A

Maxforce Complete Granular Bait could pose harm to Tarantulas should they come in contact with the treated area. It has proven somewhat effective on Leaf Cutters.  Deltagard granules are labeled for leaf cutter ants. The product label recommends treating the mound directly and lightly watering the granules in. Again it may take several treatments to get the desired results. We also recommend contacting your local cooperative extension office to see if they have any recommendations for products that have worked for other people in your region.
