Merit 75 WP is not labeled for use on plum trees. We do sell Monterey Fruit Tree and Vegetable Systemic Soil Drench, which contains the same active ingredient and is labeled for use on plum trees. If you are already finding these insects, you may also consider using a topical knockdown spray such as Fertilome Triple Action Plus.
You would need approx. 182 tsp or 30 oz of Merit to treat 130ft os shrub height. Since the label suggest using .7-1.4 tsp per foot of shrub height. You may also want to check out Dominion2l as a lower cost alternative with the same active ingredient.
Merit 75 WP is not labeled for use on cherry trees or other edible plants. ImidaPro 4SC is labeled for use for aphids on sweet and tart cherries. The best way to prevent fruit flies is to pick ripe fruit and pick up fallen fruits as soon as possible. You also can use Yellow Sticky Traps around areas where you frequently get high numbers of flying insects.
Yes, Merit 75 WP can be used on ornamentals to treat for leafminers.
No, Merit 75 WP would not be an effective product to use for carpenter ants in an oak tree. As an alternative we would suggest using a product called Dominion 2L.
Please contact your local cooperative extension office to determine the correct timing of the application as this will vary greatly from region to region. Systemic products such as Merit 75 WP are best applied before pests are a problem because it takes time to translocate throughout the tree.
Per the product label: You would mix Merit 75 WP at the rate 2 oz per 30 cumulative feet of shrub height. Soil Drench: Uniformly apply the dosage in no less than 10 gallons of water per 1000 square feet as a drench around the base of the tree, directed to the root zone. Remove plastic or any other barrier that will stop solution from reaching the root zone.
Merit WP can be applied and dried safely when the hummingbirds (or other birds) are not present.

Merit 75 is not actually labeled for squash bugs, but squash bugs that try to feed off of treated plants would surely be affected. Merit 75 is most likely not labeled for squash bugs because it cannot be used on most edible plants which are the ones that will most likely be infested by this pest. We do carry Bayer Advanced Fruit, Citrus and Vegetable Insect Control and while it does share the same active ingredient as Merit 75 the formulation is a bit different which is what allows you to use it on edible plants.
Adult Japanese Beetles can be treated with Merit 75 WP by spraying the trees. When you apply it systemically, you need to be able to apply the right amount of product per area with enough water, therefore using the product inside the Ross Root Feeders will not be a good idea. Please refer to the product label for Merit 75 WP for complete application instructions. For more information about treating this pest, view our Japanese Beetle Control page.
Yes, you can use Merit 75 WP on trees that aren't infected with anything; however, be aware that there is a limit on how much product you can use per year. As a low cost alternative we recommend Dominion 2L which has the same active ingredient as Merit and treats the same insects. One bottle of Dominion 2L contains enough product for about 137 inches of tree trunk diameter at the highest concentration, where one 2 oz jar of Merit 75 WP contains enough product for about 30 cumulative inches of tree trunk diameter (at the highest concentration for systemic control).
Merit 75 WP - 2 oz. does contain Imidacloprid which is also found in other products that are labeled for termites. Merit brand products are formulated and labeled for turf and ornamental applications, not for termite control. If you would like a product containing imidacloprid for termite treatment, then we suggest Dominion 2L.
