MotherEarth D is a broad spectrum desiccant dust with 100% high purity freshwater diatomaceous earth for long lasting control of crawling insects. Diatoms are harmless against humans and pets and are completely natural. MotherEarth D is made of the highest-quality diatomaceous earth, lasts virtually forever if left untouched and provides long-lasting control of insect pests.
Mother Earth D should not be the only product used in the fight against bed bugs as it does not kill quick enough. For best results, use a contact kill such as Sterifab or Bedlam in addition to the dust product.

MotherEarth D consists of 100% diatomaceous earth which is the fossilized skeletal remains of single celled phytoplankton commonly referred to as diatoms. It works by dehydrating insects through a desiccating action. The absorptive properties of the fossilized cell-walls easily remove the cuticle's outer waxy layer. This results in the loss of an insect's ability to maintain proper fluid levels-ultimately leading to death. Unlike boric acid dusts that work best when ingested, MotherEarth D only requires contact with the insect to be effective.
Mother Earth D Features:
How do I use Mother D?
INDOOR USE
ANTS, COCKROACHES, EARWIGS, SPIDERS AND OTHER CRAWLING INSECTS: Using a hand duster, apply lightly in dry areas where crawling insect pests are found or may hide, including cracks and crevices, along baseboards, around sinks, cabinets, refrigerators and stoves and in attics and basements. Direct contact with dry dust is required for effective control.
FLEAS: To control fleas infesting pet areas, thoroughly treat floor and bedding in and around pet's sleeping quarters. Treat surrounding cracks and crevices, baseboards, furniture, carpeting and wherever fleas are suspected. Apply a thin coat of dust to rugs and carpets. Rake (not sweep) nap back and forth, causing dust to enter rug or carpet. Let product sit overnight. Repeat application as necessary and vacuum every 3 - 4 days for
effective flea control. MotherEarth D will kill fleas and help deodorize carpet or rug.
OUTDOOR USE
ANTS, EARWIGS, MITES, SPIDERS AND OTHER CRAWLING INSECTS: Using a hand duster or other equipment suitable for application of dusts, dust lightly in areas where insects are found such as windowsills and doorframes, around foundations and along ant trails. Direct contact with dry dust is required for effective control. Repeat treatment in problem areas as necessary for control.

Thank you
By Sharon on 09/28/2008
This stuff is the best! I have spent so much money, like 300 dollars on stuff to get rid of fleas and nothing worked. I was ready to loose it until I received a free sample of MotherEarth D. I honestly didn't think it was gonna work because nothing else did, but it did! I puff it everywhere in my house, and guess what, I have no fleas! I don't know what to say except, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Product Worked Miracles
By Stan on 09/21/2010
Kills all the bugs. Warning it is a very fine dust powder. You should wear a mask but it does the job. I guarantee it, the bugs cannot become immune and die on contact. I made a perimeter around my bed and I am safe and clean no more bed bugs!!

No More Spiders!
By Sandy on 11/01/2010
I ordered this product to rid my home of spiders. It worked! After chasing down, and eliminating, a HUGE Wolf Spider in my garage (wow are they super fast), I declared all out war against spiders in my home. I didn't mind little spiders, but when I saw the Wolf Spider, (I initially thought it was a small mouse running across my garage floor...then it stopped...I think my jaw dropped open when I saw it was a spider...it was HUGE!)....that spider was way too big for my comfort to have around. I liked that Diatomaceous Earth works without harmful and dangerous pesticides. I sprinkled it around the foundation of my home, and where my garage door hits the cement floor when lowered, and Ta-Da!, no more spiders. Delivery of the product was quick, ordering was easy, packaging was secure...I would buy it again.

Mother Earth D
By Dan on 09/08/2010
I had bought a 5 lb bag of this stuff before finding your sight, when first finding out that we had bed bugs in the house in Mississippi, and been using it. It works great. A little slower in getting rid of things, but it works. I have seen dead roaches and spiders, too, from them walking through it, and not a roach in a few months now. I love it. I suggest it to anyone with a roach problem or bed bugs, too.

Don't get too much
By Shane on 01/29/2011
I bought too much of this product and returned one of the containers. A little goes a long way. Be sure to wear a mask and air the room out after treatment. It was a little hard to breathe after I dusted one room, but maybe I used a little too much. The DE seems like a good product for inserting in cracks and in electric sockets. The small, 4 oz duster was all I needed. From some online reading of DE, I read that long-term exposure to this product is not good for the lungs.

A dry dust like MotherEarth D is best used indoors in wall voids and cracks and crevices. Dust like this will not be effective once it gets wet, so you do not want to spray over the top of dust placements. Since this is a dry, powdery product, we recommend using sprays or granule baits for outdoor pest control rather than dust. Please let us know if you need assistance treating a particular pest or selecting another product.

I am in need of it due to a bed bug out break in the city.
We currently do not offer the MotherEarth D - Diatomaceous Earth as it is discontinued by the manufacturer. We do offer Cimexa Dust which will work as a great product to add to a bedbug treatment. Please take a few moments to review our article/videos on How to Get Rid of Bedbugs for information on how to implement a successful treatment program.
MotherEarth D - Diatomaceous Earth is not labeled to be applied to septic tanks for any reason. It is also not recommended for roach control. Roach control requires a combination of a residual insecticide, a roach bait and an insect growth regulator (IGR) along with repeat applications every 10-14 days. Our Roach Control Kits are the most effective way to treat for roaches. Please take a moment to review our Roach Treatment Guide to learn how to inspect, treat and prevent roaches in and around your home.

I sprinkled a down comforter with a lot of DE and stored it for a couple of years, to find it with many dead carpet beetles. I didn't shake it out--lots of DE, but took it to laundromat for large washer and 3 rinse cycles. Should the DE be gone? This will be used for bedding, for child.
Yes, after 3 wash cycles the MotherEarth D - Diatomaceous Earth residue should be gone from the bedding.

I seem to have a bird mite infestation. I am in the process of storing away clothes in plastic containers. Is it safe and effective to add MotherEarth D when storing clothes and shoes?
MotherEarth D or other Diatomaceous Earth products should not be used on clothing or similar personal items. This dust is a dessicant and would actually cause skin irritation with any prolonged contact. Clothing can be treated for any pest in a washer and dryer, or by dry cleaning or steam cleaning.

MotherEarth D - Diatomaceous Earth was labeled for crickets and could be used in cracks and crevices inside for insects including camel back crickets. The Mother Earth Granule Scatter Bait is still available and would be a great choice for camel back crickets around homes and in crawl spaces.

I've tried everything and nothing is effecting these German cockroaches. Will this product do the job?
Unfortuantely, the MotherEarth D - Diatomaceous Earth has been discontinued, and is no longer available. However, Diatomaceous earth is labeled to treat for roaches. We would recommend that you look at purchasing one of our Roach Control Kits. These include all the items needed to effectively take care of a roach infestation.
Also please see our How To Get Rid of Roaches Guide as well for other tips.

MotherEarth D - Diatomaceous Earth is not labeled to treat of Noseeums. Talstar P is good general insecticide that is labeled for Noseeums. You will spray along the baseboards and cracks and crevice in the area affected inside the home, this will last 90 days. You will want to treat outdoors as well as a perimeter spray. Treat around the window seals, doors, etc. in places where they could possibly come in. This wil last 30 days outdoors. Here is the link for the product:

After speaking with the manufacturer of MotherEarth D Dust, they have verified that it is not recommended to apply this item by raking into the grass are but to be used in a hand duster applying to the affected areas where in the insects are active.
Would this work to deter opossums and/or groundhogs living under my deck?
MotherEarth D - Diatomaceous Earth would not work as an animal repellent. We would suggest using a product such as Shake-Away Fox Urine Granules Critter Repellent to deter animals like opossums and groundhogs.
