Spider control should always begin with a good Inspection to identify hot spots where spiders or insects may enter the structure and where they hide. Using the pesticides and glue traps included in the New York Spider Control Kit will help to eliminate insects, the spiders’ source of food. By treating for other pests besides just the spiders, the spiders will go elsewhere to hunt or starve. It is also important to knockdown existing spider webs before applying insecticides. Not only does this discourage spiders from rebuilding in the same area, but it also provides a clean surface for you to apply your spray.
How to Apply the Spider Control Kit
STEP 1 - INDOOR SPRAY, Residual - FenvaStar EcoCap
FenvaStar EcoCap is a liquid concentrate that must be diluted with water and applied with a pump sprayer such as the Chapin 1 gallon pump sprayer. FenvaStar contains the active ingredient Esfenvalerate in a long-lasting microencapsulated concentrate. This formulation of insecticide has a long residual both indoors and out, and it makes the insecticide more accessible to larger pests such as spiders.
*Wear gloves when mixing and handling pesticides, such as Nitrile Chemical Resistant Gloves.
*To mix the FenvaStar, first shake the concentrate well. Fill your sprayer tank with 1/3 - 1/2 of the desired volume of water, then add the desired amount of FenvaStar concentrate. Agitate the tank before you finish filling the sprayer with water, then agitate again before your application.
*Use 1-2 oz. of concentrate per gallon of water. Use the higher rate for initial cleanout and severe infestations; use the lower rate for prevention and maintenance.
*Apply FenvaStar EcoCap mixture in places where spiders and insects are likely to enter the structure or to hide, such as around door frames and window frames, in corners, along baseboards, under and behind appliances, in closets and storage areas, and where utilities enter the structure.
*Use diluted solution within 24 hours of mixing. Agitate spray solution if your application is interrupted.
*Store FenvaStar EcoCap concentrate in a temperate area, out of direct sunlight, and out of reach of children or pets.
*Keep pets and other people out of the treatment area until the application is dry, usually about an hour.
*FenvaStar EcoCap also may be applied as an exterior perimeter treatment for spiders and for other common crawling and flying insect pests.
*Do not apply FenvaStar to edible plants such as vegetable gardens or fruit trees.
*FenvaStar will leave a clear residual for months after application. Applications may be repeated as needed, but do not apply FenvaStar more than once every 14 days.
STEP 2 - INDOOR SPRAY, Contact - CB-80
CB-80 is a ready-to-use aerosol that contains the natural active ingredient pyrethrum plus a synergist for faster initial kill of contacted pests. CB-80 is a great contact and flushing insecticide for most common crawling and flying pests.
*Use CB-80 with the broad nozzle as a spot treatment to kill spiders and insects on contact.
*Use the included crack and crevice straw to flush out cracks and crevices. For help inserting the straw into the nozzle, see our aerosol video. (Hint: needle-nosed pliers are a huge help.)
*Use CB-80 as needed to treat spiders and insects on contact.
*CB-80 will have a slight odor when sprayed. This odor will dissipate as the spray dries.
*Do not apply CB-80 directly to food contact surfaces, or in ways that would contaminate food, utensils, or food handling surfaces.
*Store CB-80 in a cool, dry place out of reach of children and pets.
STEP 3 - MONITOR - Catchmaster 100i Insect Monitors
Glue traps are a great way to help identify where pests are hiding and which pests are present. Glue traps are also an easy way to reduce spider populations, since spiders are tough to kill with insecticides directly. This step is simple but important.
*To use the included Catchmaster Insect Monitor Glue Boards to track your progress:
