    Q
Trying to kill fleas in a large yard 1.5 Acre.
I have been trying to kill fleas in my customers yard for a year now. I have use regular Talstar and now twice used the new stronger version. I have also put down granular Bifen down as well. It takes about 200 gallons to spray his yard. Any suggestions?
    A
Talstar is a great product to control fleas outdoors. It sounds though, that you are missing one key component. The Insect growth regulator to stop the reproduction cycle. We would recommend to mix Nyguard in the with the Talstar and water.

Does NyGuard IGR work on bed bugs?
    A

NyGuard IGR is not labeled for bed bugs.  The Gentrol IGR is the only birth control that has been shown to work on bed bugs, however it is not 100% guaranteed to work every single time in every home.

    Q
Is there a difference between NyGuard IGR vs Precor vs Gentrol in terms of effectiveness?
I'm using it for indoors only for mostly roaches.
    A

Precor IGR is only labeled for fleas. Gentrol IGR has a more broad label and will stop the life cycle of various insects, including roaches and stored product pests. Gentrol has a unique movement to it which makes is extremely effective for listed insects. This is mixed with an adulticide and applied for roaches. NyGuard IGR has a broad label of insects and can be used outdoors or indoors.

  • Asked by Rachel from Lititz

    Q
Can I use a pump sprayer to apply insecticide like Nyguard IGR to my lawn or does it have to be a hose end sprayer?
I want to spray my lawn for fleas, and I want to use Onslaught and NyGuard. I am wondering how much of each I need in a 2 gallon sprayer. How much do I need to purchase for 1/2 acre property?
    A

Absolutely, a pump sprayer is the recommended way to apply products like Nyguard IGR and other insecticides. It will give you the most uniform application as well. When using a product like Onslaught Insecticide, you would use 1 fl oz per gallon of water, and that gallon of finished solution would cover 1000 sq ft. For the Nyguard IGR, for fleas you would use 3 ml to 8 ml per gallon.

What is the safest flea adulticide I can use with NyGuard IGR for hardwood floors?.
    I have indoor cats.
    A

FenvaStar EcoCap can be applied indoors mixed with NyGuard IGR for flea control. It is mixed at 1-2 oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article on How to Get Rid of Fleas for more information on a successful flea control program. The products should be applied when the pets are not present, and they can return when the surfaces are completely dried.

    Q
What is the shelf life of Nyguard IGR if opened, but still in its original container?
Also I see it says it will last up to seven months indoors but how long will it last outside in direct sunlight and rain. I currently do not have a problem I will use it as a preventative with Talstar. I was thinking 12ml per gallon ever three months. Thank you.
    A

Nyguard IGR has a 3-5 year shelf life as long as it is stored at room temperatures. Nyguard IGR can be applied one a month outside. It is only photostable up to 14 days outside and can last up to 30-60 days in the soil depending on soil conditions and weather.

  • Asked by Mark from Royal Oak, Michigan

    Q
Can I mix NyGuard IGR and Tempo SC Ultra for carpet beetles?
I am currently using NyGuard IGR & Tempo SC Ultra to get rid of black and varied carpet beetles. Is this mixture effective together? Also, do I have to spray the larvae, or is the residual enough to affect the larvae if they move into a sprayed area?
    A

NyGuard IGR & Tempo SC Ultra mixed together will kill and sterilize Carpet Beetles. If you can get into the cracks and crevices where the larvae or pupa are, then the products will treat for the larvae and pupa stages. There is residual left and you will need to retreat every 14 days. Also, be sure to continue to vacuum often.

    Q
    Will NyGuard work for scorpions?
I was told a local pest control company uses insect growth regulators for scorpions. Just wondering if this product will work for the control of scorpions? Thanks.
    A
Nyguard is not labeled for scorpions. This could mean that the manufacturer has not tested this product for scorpions or that they have tested it for scorpions and felt that it was not effective for that application. We would not depend on Nyguard to be effective for scorpions.

  • Asked by Ernie from Austin, Tx
    07/28/2015
    Q
Is using Onslaught and NyGuard IGR on the furniture not a good idea for treating fleas?
I read some reviews that Onslaught (even after drying) caused skin irritation.
    A

Onslaught and NyGuard IGR can be mixed together and applied indoors and outdoors for treating fleas and safe if used as directed on the product labels. Onslaught is not labeled for use on furniture. We do carry products that can be applied to furniture surfaces such as Sterifab and BioDefense. We recommend that you use Ultracide for the indoor treatment as it can be used on all carpeted areas, pet bedding and upholstered furniture. Ultracide Spray contains Permethrin and Phenothrin to kill adult fleas fast. It also contains Methoprene (an insect growth regulator) to prevent reinfestation for up to seven months. Methoprene penetrates deep into the base of carpet and upholstery fibers, where pre-adult fleas live, and targets fleas in the egg and larval stages of development, preventing them from producing new infestations of breeding, biting adults. Be sure to thoroughly vacuum immediately before the treatment and every day for the next 14 days to help speed up flea elimination.

    Q
Best method to eradicate deer ticks
I have a deer tick problem in my yard. I'm in the process of modifying my yard to make it less tick friendly, but I want to eradicate them as well. I've been doing some research and Bifenthrin seems to be widely used for contact kill of existing ticks. I have also been reading that deer ticks are best controlled when combined with an IGR to disrupt their breeding cycle, but I'm not sure which one to choose. I am and wondering what insecticide and IGR combination you would recommend to eradicate deer ticks specifically. I have small children but no pets.
    A

NyGuard IGR is a great product to use in combination with a bifenthrin product like Bifen IT.  Bifen does not kill on contact but instead will leave a residual of up to 30 days to continue to kill those ticks and other insects that contact a treated area.  Those that are sprayed directly will die faster of course but it can still take a few minutes up to a few hours or so to die after contact.  We also have great guides here that can help.

    Q
Does NyGuard IGR hurt honey bees?
    A

NyGuard IGR is not labeled to control any form of bees and does not list toxicity for bees in the treated areas.  We would recommend applying early morning or late evening when they are less active just to be safe.
