    Q
Can you premix Permethrin SFR and how long does it last?
    A

You should only mix the Permethrin SFR with water when you are ready to apply. Any mixed solution should be dispersed within 24 hours of mixing. Undiluted in the original container (stored away from extreme temps) you will get about a three year shelf life from the date of purchase.

    Q
What time of year is appropriate to use Permethrin SFR 36.8%?
Live in Kansas I want to apply product on ground around hive to reduce hive Beetles.
    A

You want to be very careful when using Permethrin SFR 36.8% to treat for hive beetles as the Permethrin is highly toxic to bees! According to the attached article from the University of Arkansas about Managing Small Hive Beetles :   Soil Treatment - The pupal stage is a vulnerable time in the beetle life cycle. Slightly moist, loose, sandy soil is optimal for their development. Locating colonies on hard clay or rocky soil, rather than light sandy soil, can reduce the number of beetly larvae that successfully pupate. If larvae are present in the colony, soil around the hive can be treated with a permethrin drench to prevent the larvae from pupating, killing them in the soil.

We also suggest that you contact your local Extension office  to see what their recommendations are for as far as time frame for you to do this in your area. Most times they can give you much more precise advice on those times of years more specific to your local area.

  • Asked by Sara from Ohio
    10/07/2016
    Q
Is the combo Permethrin + NyGuard safe in the home for an 11-month old who is crawling?
This combo was applied and we waited the full drying period before returning to the home. There was a strong odor and I am hesitant to allow my child to crawl on the floors. I see posts about the permethin not being safe for even clothing application, so I worry it poses a risk after carpet application. Is there harm in allowing my child to now roam about the house? Why is it dangerous when wet, but safe when dry.
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% cannot be applied to clothing.  Permethrin SFR 36.8% mixed with Nyguard IGR is safe for children and pets after drying. There is a slight odor, but that dissapates over a short time. In the original wet state, it can irritate skin. That is why we recommend to keep children and pets away until dried. If the treated area were to get wet it does not "reactivate".

  • Asked by Konika from Gastonia

    Q
Will Permethrin SFR 36.8% work for chigger control?
We had our home built last year & never had issues except mosquitos. But we dug for a pool this summer & all of a sudden I learned about chiggars. They tore us up so much worse than mosquito bites. I bought the 10% until I could get someone to spray. But now that I'm learning more, I'd like to take care of our issue's. The pool backs up to a small sparsely wooded single line of mainly pines. Just wondering about best mixture & frequency when it starts to get hot again.
    A

Unfortunately, Permethrin SFR 36.8% is not labeled for chiggers. We would recommend Talstar P for that. This would give you lasting control, has no odor, and dries clear

  • Asked by Matt from Portsmouth, Nh
    11/07/2016
    Q
What should I use for tick control?
Hi, I recently purchased a property that has a healthy infestation of deer ticks. We have cleared and stripped the top soil on about 1 acre. Still have brush, vegetation, and trees all around the perimeter. I'm looking to purchase a backpack sprayer to spray an insecticide. My question is what is the best product to use?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is labeled for ticks in yards and it will offer some residual effects as well. The Permethrin SFR 36.8% product label recommends that you mix the product with a surfactant to help the product better stick to the foliage that you are spraying.  We also recommend adding an insect growth regulator such as Archer IGR to Permethrin to stop the ticks from being able to develop while you are trying to eliminate the infestation. Do not make spot applications. Treat the entire area where exposure to ticks may occur. Use more water (not more product) when treating areas with dense ground cover or heavy leaf litter. Ticks may be reintroduced from surrounding areas on host animals. Retreatment may be necessary to achieve and/or maintain control during periods of high pest pressure.

  • Asked by Ted from Eunice, La

    Q
Why wouldn't Permethrin SFR 36 be a good option for mosquito control, and can it be used in a hand held fogger?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is not labeled to be used for mosquitos in yards and cannot be used in a fogger.  Fogging is really only going to kill those that are out in the area at the time of application and may make the area slightly repellent for about a day or so.  Talstar P is our most popular product for mosquito control and would be a better option.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using any hand pump sprayer or backpack sprayer.  The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio where you are trying to provide relief.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well, which is where the mosquitoes like to hang out.  It should be applied every 30 days for optimum control.

  • Asked by Don from Topsham, Me
    12/01/2016
    Q
Will Permethrin SFR 36.8% be effective next spring for Browntail moth control?
We live in coastal Maine and have lots of Browntail moth caterpillar webs high up in our oak trees. Is this product recommended for this use?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% can be effective against Browntail Moths but direct contact must be made to increase the effectiveness. Pesticides should be applied when caterpillars are small and feeding, usually before the end of May.

Control of browntail moth populations in isolated areas may be obtained by clipping the overwintering webs and destroying these webs by either soaking in soapy water or burning them, according to the law ordinances in your county. This control should be undertaken in the winter and very early spring. For more information you can contact your local cooperative extension office.

  • Asked by Leah from Orlando
    12/07/2016
    Q
How often should I treat with Permethrin SFR 36.85% for fleas and german roaches?
My yard and house have fleas and german roaches. After the first treatment how long until I should treat again?
    A

Permethring SFR 36.8% gives you up to a 30 day residual outdoors, and up to a 90 day residual indoors. We would also recommend using an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) as well for both these pest applications, such as Nyguard IGR Concentrate. This will help stop the reproductive cycle in both the roaches and fleas.
