Permethrin SFR 36.8% canont be mixed/applied as a carpet shampoo application. It cam only be mixed with water and applied with a pump sprayer.
Permethrin SFR 36.8% is not labeled for bedbug control in homes. We recommend the use of a combination of products to effectively eliminate bedbugs from your home. We have put together Bedbug Kits that come with all of the products that you will need. For more information on a successful bedbug treatment program, please review our article on How to Get Rid of Bedbugs.
The Permethrin SFR 36.8% SDS states that it has a “mild petroleum odor.”
We recommend using an insecticide and an IGR when treating for fleas. While most permethrin products would be considered safe for people and pets once the application is competely dry, there are newer products which do not have the petroleum distillates found in most permethrin products or have the odor of them. One great product for indoor flea control is PT Alpine Flea and Bed Bug Aerosol, which is a ready-to-use product that includes an insecticide and IGR in one product. This specific product is classified as a Reduced Risk pesticide by the EPA. It is easy to apply and dries quickly and evenly. You can purchase this product alone or in our Indoor Flea and Tick Kit which includes the CimeXa Dust, also.
Most flea treatment products last about 14 days for indoor treatment since this is the recommended retreatment interval for this pest. We recommend treating every 14 days for fleas as long as you continue to see flea activity. This is in addition to vacuuming indoors every day or every other day and treating pets with products approved for this use. We discuss these and other tips in more detail in our online Flea Treatment Guide here.
If you still have more of your IGR concentrate and prefer using an insecticide concentrate as well, then Zenprox EC is a great choice for use indoors. It comes in a convenient 2 oz bottle and also a pint.
Diatomaceous earth can be used either as a crack and crevice treatment for general pest control, or it can be worked into carpeting using a broom or carpet brush for flea control (be sure the product you have is labeled for this use). It will not interfere with other treatments when used correctly.

How you set your hose end sprayer will depend completely on the brand of sprayer you have. We recommend you read the directions on the hose end sprayer as some require you to pre-dilute the product and other hose end sprayers do not. That being said, rate of Permethrin SFR for fleas/ticks in a yard is not set per gallon so we do not recommend a hose end sprayer. Per the product label you would mix 0.4 – 0.8 fl. oz. of Permethrin SFR in 4 to 25 gallons of water per 1000 square feet. Use the higher rate for fast knockdown and increased residual control. Dense or excessive (greater than 3 inches) lawn height and arid conditions may require higher volume application rates. Repeat application if necessary. Application in combination with compatible surfactants or wetting agents may enhance penetration.
Permethrin SFR 36.8% is labeled for roaches, so it would kill roaches of any species or size that come into contact with it via direct spray or residual. If you are only seeing roaches occasionally and need a residual spray to create a barrier, then you have many options. Temprid FX is water-based and contains two active ingredients for longer control. It also does not have the odor that sprays with permethrin will have. If you are seeing different life stages and/or seeing roaches consistently, then we would recommend our Roach Control Kit Rotation A. Please see our Roach Treament Guide for more information and tips.
Permethrin SFR 36.8% can be used on ornamentals such as flower beds as directed on the product label.
Permethrin SFR 36.8% is not not labeled to be applied on any edibles. Anything sprayed should not be harvested for consumption and should be discarded.
You will use 0.4-0.8 oz of Permethrin SFR 36.8% per gallon of water per 1000 sq ft. Use the higher rate for fast knockdown and increased residual control.
You do not need to apply insecticides such as Permethrin SFR before insects are active, which is usually when you get consistent daytime temperatures of about 55-60 degrees. If you tend to see overwintering pests like stink bugs or boxelder bugs, then keep an eye on your weather forecast and apply as soon as you get a jump in temperatures on a sunny day.
Permethrin SFR is only labeled for mosquito control on livestock premises. A better product for mosquito control outdoors is Talstar P and it can be IGR such as Tekko Pro to help sterilize the adults. It is our most popular product for mosquito control and would be a better option. It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using any hand pump sprayer or backpack sprayer. You will mix 1 fl oz of Talstar and 1 fl oz of Tekko Pro per gallon of water. The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio where you are trying to provide relief. It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants but on the underside of the leaves as well, which is where the mosquitoes like to hang out. It should be applied every 30 days for optimum control.
Yes, you can use Permethrin SFR with an IGR such as Nyguard IGR.
Since Permethrin SFR is labeled for use indoors as a crack and crevice spray, you could potentially use it as part of a carpet beetle treatment program. We recommend adding an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) when treating for carpet beetles, such as NyGuard IGR. You could also use a ready-to-use product like NyGuard Plus which has both an insecticide and an IGR in one product. A better choice for use in the drop ceiling may be an insecticide dust, though, since it is a dry product that would not damage the tiles, and a dust lasts much longer than a spray in void spaces like a drop ceiling. Delta Dust can be used in a drop ceiling for carpet beetles and other crawling insect pests there. Or you may consider our Carpet Beetle Control Kit which includes the NyGuard Plus, CimeXa Dust, and glue traps.
Be sure that you have located and removed the source of the infestation as well. We have more tips in our Carpet Beetle Treatment Guide here.
Permethrin SFR 36.8% would be a very effective insecticide to control ticks. It is labeled for ticks (including Deer Tick and Western Black legged Tick). Permethrin would be mixed at 0.4 to 0.8 Fluid Ounces per gallon of water to treat 1000 square feet of lawn and applied as a broadcast application.
It would also be a good idea to incorporate an insect growth regulator (IGR) such as Archer IGR for complete control of ticks. All of these products are pet safe if used as directed. Pets need to be kept out of the area being treated during application and until everything is completely dry.
Please look over our Tick Control Guide for more information on treating and preventing this pest.
Depending on which IGR you are using along with Permethrin SFR 36.8%, they only need to be applied every 60-90 days. Follow the repeat application interval time on the product label of the IGR you are using.
Permethrin SFR needs to be diluted with water and since water can make metal rust, we would have to say yes.
If edible vegetation was treated with Permethrin SFR 36.8% , it should be discarded and not consumed.
No, Permethrin SFR 36.8% cannot be used on mattresses nor is it labeled for bed bugs in the home. Please take a look at our Bed Bug Guide for recommended products and treatment information.
Permethrin SFR 36.8% is not labeled for chiggers. Onslaught insecticide is labeled for chiggers and can be used both indoors and outdoors as a broadcast spray. Treatments for chiggers should begin in May and could need to continue through the summer as new chiggers move into the area. Treating the entire lawn is of little benefit because chiggers avoid direct sunlight and normally will not infest areas that are mowed or otherwise well maintained. Focus treatment on the unkempt areas of the lawn and lawn edge. You can also use Onslaught to do a barrier treatment around the outside of your home and in your crawl space to stop pests from moving indoors.
With Permethrin SFR 36.8% for sod webworms you will mix 0.4 – 0.8 fl. oz. of Permethrin SFR in 4 to 25 gallons of water per 1000 square feet. Use the higher rate for fast knockdown and increased residual control. Dense or excessive (greater than 3 inches) lawn height and arid conditions may require higher volume application rates. Repeat application if necessary. Application in combination with compatible surfactants or wetting agents may enhance penetration.
You want to make sure you are using enough water to get it down to where they are better so 1 gallon is usually not enough.
