  • Asked by Tiffany from Shepherdsville, Ky

    Q
Would this product be safe to spray around an organic garden?
I have an organic garden, but I also have a severe tick problem in my fenced in yard. I only live on about 3/4 an acre but there are deer ticks all over it, and I have small children. I want to spray something in/around my yard, which would be around my garden, but not on the plants in the garden beds. Is this safe, or is there a chance that this will get down into the soil and come into contact with my plant's roots?
    A
Permethrin SFR 36.8% is labeled for ticks and can be used in your lawn. The product should not be used within the drip line of the garden. We normally recommend using it at least 2-3 feet away. Once the product is dry, it is safe for your children to go into the lawn. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

  • Asked by Phil from Cascade, Id
    09/12/2014
    Q
Utilizing Dominion 2L for pine borers via soil injection. When should applications be made.
    A
Because of the natural boring behavior of the beetle they are protected from topically applied insecticides and systemic insecticides (those injected into the tree or applied as a root drench) have proven ineffective for pine beetle infestations. Healthy trees can be protected before the beetles attack by topically spraying them with a synthetic pyrethroid like Permethrin SFR.  Unfortunately there is no easy solution when it comes to pine beetles. Infected trees should be cut down (before the newly hatched beetles fly out of the trees in the spring/summer) and the wood burned or chipped, while other still healthy trees should be sprayed annually to protect them.  The tree should be sprayed from the ground to 15 ft up the trunk to prevent future infestations. You should contact your local cooperative extension office to find out the best time to start spraying in your region.

    06/03/2015
    Q
Can I mix Permethrin SFR 36.8% (about 8 months old) and 10% together?
I have two bottles...one is SFR 36.8 and other one is 10% (about 3 years old). Can I mix them together in an empty dried drinking water jug - gallon size?
    A
It is not recommended to mix Permethrin 36.8% and Permethrin 10% together in a water jug for storage. They should remain in their original containers at room temperature. They have a 3 year shelf life from the date of purchase if stored away from extreme temperatures.

  • Asked by Torri from Bradenton, Fl
    07/18/2015
    Q
Can I dilute Permeterin SFR to a 10 percent concentration for use in a 55 gallon misting system for use in my livestock barn?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is not labeled to be used in a misting system.

A better option would be Sector Misting Concentrate. Sector provides quick knockdown, kill and residual control of flying insect pests including mosquitoes, flies and other insects. he residual of the chemical will not harm most common ornamental plants and shrubs, so the product is safe for use in backyards near lawn and landscape areas. Can be used in automatic spraying systems, ULV foggers, mosquito misting systems, cattle barns, animal quarters, dairies, poultry houses, warehouses and more.

  • Asked by Amy from Indiana
    07/21/2015
    Q
Will Permethrin SFR 36.8 kill wireworms and click beetle adults?
I have found click beetles and the wireworms in my garden around hostas and other plants. Will this product take care of them? How deep in soil does it need to get? Should I also use a granular too? If yes, which one would be best? Thanks
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8%  will not treat for Click beetles/Wire worms. It is hard to find a treatment that is labeled for these pests. First, be sure to remove or clean up any piles of debris in the yard or patio/deck. Research shows that cutworm treatments have proven effective on Click beetles. We would recommend Cyonara RTS.  It comes in a convenient bottle that hooks up to your hose and is labeled to apply in your garden.  It will not only take care of cutworms, but many other pests that might be in your garden.

  • Asked by Kathy from Franklinville, Nj
    08/02/2015
    Q
Can I mix Permethrin SFR 36.8% with Temprid SC? Will one make the other not work as well?
    A

There is no valid reason to mix Temprid SC and Permethrin SFR 36.8% together.  Permethrin SFR 36.8% is a synthetic pyrethroid and Temprid SC already contains a synthetic pyrethroid, so there would be nothing to gain by mixing these products together. Making a pesticide too strong can actually backfire. Areas that are treated with this overly concentrated spray will be repellent and insects will simply avoid the treated areas prolonging the infestation.

  • Asked by Steve from Tumacacori, Arizona
    06/16/2016
    Q
Is Permethrin SFR 36.8% the best product for drenching ant mounds?
I live in So. AZ in rural area. I have several kinds of ants but some have large colonies in the dry lot area where my livestock spend time. I want to either get rid of them entirely or at least knock them back so they don't get bigger. I currently spray every other day with Home Defense but they just come back quickly. I need a strong product as well as the best method to use it. I want something I can use around the house as well. Thanks
    A

Permethrin SFR can be used to drench ant mounds in animal areas. Per the product label: "Apply 1-2 gallons of emulsion to each mound area by sprinkling the mound until it is wet and treat a 4 foot diameter circle around the mound. Use the higher volume for mounds larger than 12 inches. For best results, apply in cool weather, such as in early morning or late evening hours, but not in the heat of the day."

If you are treating in a grazing area or pasture, then we would suggest doing the same application using Essentria All Purpose insecticide, which does not have grazing restrictions.
