    Q
What product do you recommend to get rid of aggressive ivy that is growing up the side of a house and fence?
And I also want nothing to grow there anymore. If you kind recommend 3-5 products that I could take a look at that would be awesome. Thank you.
    A

You will want to look at our Total Vegetation Management Page. The 3 most common bare ground herbicides to use that will prevent regrowth for the longest amount of time are Pramitol (up to 1 year),  TVC Total Vegetation Control (season long control) and Bonide Ground Force Vegetation Management (up to 1 year).

    Q
I want to kill new growth that is starting on 35 acres that were recently clear cut?
    A
If you are looking for a complete soil sterilizer that will kill any existing vegetation as well as prevent any new vegetation from coming back for at least a year you would want to go with a product like Pramitol 25E. If you are just looking to kill what is currently coming back up but plan to replant in this area, you would need to use a Glyphosate or Triclopyr product like RoundUp or Crossbow.

    Q
How soon can you replant grass seed after treating your yard with Pramitol?
    A
You would not be able to plant new seed after using Pramitol unless you till up the entire lawn, dig out at least 6 inches deep of the soil and then replace with fresh soil. Pramitol is a soil sterilizer used for areas around the home where no growth is wanted for extended periods of time, such as along fence rows where weed eating becomes tiresome. Pramitol will last in the soil for a minimum of 1 year after applied. If you were wanting to kill out all current weeds and grass prior to reseeding and starting new, you would need to apply RoundUP as this will kill anything currently on the ground but will not last in the soil more than about 2 weeks.

  • Asked by Peter from Phoenix, Az

    Q
How does the Pramitol compare to the Martins TVC for a vegetation killing spray?
What are the main differences between Pramitol and Martin's TVC and which is better in a long-term solution for a complete vegetation killer?
    A
Both the Pramitol and the TVC-Total Vegetation Control are going to give you about a years worth of soil sterilization if not longer. The weeds, grasses, brush and other hardy plants controlled are similar across the 2 labels. Your main difference is going to be the dilution ratio as to which will be the more economical buy for your amount of area. Depending on the plant being treated the quart of Pramitol will cover between 1 and 4 thousand square feet making between 1 and 4 gallons of finished solution. The amount of TVC used is also dependent on the targeted plant, between 2 and 6 pints per acre which comes out to between 0.75 and 2.25 ounces per 1000 sq/ft in no less than 2 gallons of water.

    Q
We live in rainy Oregon and have not found a product to help us control the many varieties of weeds.
We use Roundup several times a year, but can't seem to get ahead of the problem. The areas of most concern are through the rock gardens and bark mulch where we really don't want anything to grow now or in the future. These areas are quite large as our yard is over an acre. What you you recommend?
    A
Pramitol 25E is a total vegetation killing product and will eliminate anything growing where you spray it. The Pramitol will keep anything new from growing in the treated areas for up to 1 year. Caution should be used during application as some leaching in the soil could occur and destroy nearby desirable vegetation and turfs.

    Q
Will pramitol 25e kill vegetation on a stone pathway? I diluted 1T into 1 gal of water and used a pump spray
I diluted 1 T. of pramitol into 1 gal. of water and used a pump sprayer to apply the product in between the stones. How long will it take to kill the light vegetation?
    A
Pramitol is a total vegetation killing product and will eliminate anything growing where you spray it. The Pramitol will keep anything new from growing in the treated areas for up to 1 year. Caution should be used during application as some leaching in the soil could occur and destroy nearby desirable vegetation and turfs. The Pramitol needs to be mixed at the rate of 8 ounces per each gallon of water at the lowest dilution and can be used up to 32 ounces per gallon for harder to kill brush. Time of plant death will depend on how much product is absorbed through the root system, if it is irrigate after application and if the plant is under any stress to cause it to not absorb the product as quickly. It could be days or weeks before complete death is visible in the weeds you are treating. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
    Best kill for my money?
Is this product best for money to absolutly kill everything for whole growing season with one or two treatments?
    A
Pramitol is a great product for vegetation management. Depending on how much area you are treating would depend on whether this is the most cost effective for you. If its a a small area the pramitol will work well. If you have a large area the TVC-Total Vegetation Control could be better for your needs. You can compare the two products here.

  • Asked by Sheila from Magnolia, Ms
    06/06/2012
    Q
Which Product is safe for roses, shrubs?
What product is safer to use in areas where I need to control the growth of weeds in crushed limestone walkways that surround a rose garden and shrubs?
    A
Pramitol would not be a good choice to use around desirable plants as it is a soil sterilant and will likely kill any plant near soil that is treated with the product. You can spot treat the weeds with a glyphosate product such as RoundUp QuickPro as long as you careful to avoid spraying the desirable plants. Grass Out Max would be a good choice if you are dealing with grassy weeds and do not want to spot treat  because it can be sprayed around flowers and shrubs to get rid of grassy weeds without worry of harming the desirable plants as long as it used as specified on the product label.
