    Q
Can cats stay in the house while I spray Precor 2000 Plus Premise Spray or do they need to be removed?
Could I put them in one room and then do that room after?
    A

Your cats do not need to leave the house.  You should do exactly as you suggested.  Place the cats in another room while you are treating and wait 30 minutes for the Precor 2000 Plus Premise to dry. Once the product has dried, it is perfectly safe to allow the cats back into the room.

    Q
Should I vacuum the next day after the Precor 2000 treatment?
We did the whole house but I still feel little stings around my legs (no bites).
    A
It is our recommendation and industry standard that you vacuum immediately before the application of Precor 2000 and every day or every other day after the application for the next two weeks. Vacuums can physically remove a decent percentage of flea eggs that are in the carpet, along with much of the organic crud that the flea larvae feed on. A critical part of the diet of the larva is dried blood, present there as fecal material from the fleas that are on the pets. Wherever the pets spend time they will shed the fecal matter and the eggs, so it is extremely important that you focus on these potential hot spots where the pets sleep. A vacuum also will remove a small percentage of larvae, but the larva is pretty tenacious, and will wrap around the carpet fibers down there at the base of the pile, and hold on for dear life as the vacuum passes by. The pupa is even tougher to physically remove, for it uses fibers as part of its "cocoon". But, the vacuum will stimulate the flea adults still in their pupa form to quickly emerge as the adult, and at this point perhaps be sucked up in the vacuum. Even if they are not removed by the vacuum, at least they now are exposed and susceptible to your treatment.   After two weeks most infestations require that you do a second application of the Precor 2000 and continue with the vacuuming.

    Q
Will Precor 2000 Plus Premise Spray damage my real hardwood flooring?
    A
No, Precor 2000 Plus Premise Spray is perfectly safe on just about any surface. You should always test the spray first in a corner or inconspicuous area to be sure, but we have never had any issues. Remember to vacuum all surfaces and cracks and crevices of the hardwood floor and around baseboards first before the application. You should also vacuum often over the next week and apply again exactly 14 days later after your first application. Be sure to vacuum again before your second treatment.

    Q
How do you treat your clothes for fleas?
Do fleas live in clothing? Our kitten would jump into our bottom drawers of our dresser. Should I wash all clothing or just open the drawers of the dresser when treating our home with Precor 2000?
    A
Clothes should not be sprayed with any type of insecticide. All clothing that could be infested should be washed and dried. Dry Clean only clothes in most cases can simply go through the dryer for about 30 minutes. Be sure the dryer is on a setting that will reach at least 120F as this is the temperature that will kill the insects and their eggs.

    Q
I have fleas in my house. Is there a pesticide I can use to spray the carpet area in my room?
    A
Precor 2000 Plus Premise Spray is an aerosol spray that comes ready to use, no mixing required. Precor 2000 contains 2 insecticides to kill adult fleas fast. It also contains an insect growth regulator to prevent reinfestation for up to seven months. Vacuuming is very important when treating for fleas. For best results, vacuum thoroughly before spraying and discard or empty vacuum bag in outside trash. Continue vacuuming frequently to help remove flea eggs and flea debris. Heavy infestations may require retreatment after 14 days.

    Q
Is it safe to spray Precor 2000 on couches and couch pillows?
    A
Precor 2000 Plus should only be sprayed under couch cushions and into the creases and tucks and folds of the fabric. Since fleas don't develop out in the open there is no need to spray the areas where you will becoming into frequent skin contact. We recommend thoroughly vacuuming all of the furniture to help remove fleas, eggs and larva which will help speed along the elimination process.

    Q
I used two Precor bombs and treated a week later with spray. Shut out pets from internal room. Still have fleas
    A
When treating for fleas, vacuuming is the most important thing to do.  You should vacuum before you treat, and then vacuum after you treat every day for the next week.  Vacuuming pulls flea eggs to the surface as well as stimulates them to hatch sooner.  You should repeat this treatment exactly 14 days later, or 2 weeks, since this is how often flea eggs typically hatch.  You may have treated too soon if you only waited 1 week before your 2nd treatment.  Also, your pets need to be flea dipped and treated.  Typically most flea problems can be handled in 2 treatments, but this depends on how bad the problem is.  It is common to have to do 3 or 4 treatments (treating every 2 weeks) over 2 months for bad problems.

    Q
How long is the residual effect of Precor 2000 Plus Premise Spray? Is the residual effect shortened or removed by mopping or steam cleaning?
    A
If you mop the floors or steam clean the carpets where Precor 2000 has been applied you will be effectively removing any residual control you would have gotten from the application. You should mop and steam clean prior to the application and you can mop and steam clean two weeks after the application.

    Q
Is it normal to still have adult fleas jumping into traps after spraying Precor 2000?
Precor 2000 plus has been used throughout my apartment for 3 days now (including carpets, furniture, bedding, cushions...) and I have been vacuuming daily since - but my flea traps are still catching fleas (a few per day). I thought newly emerged fleas will die when they reach the insecticide on the carpet, is it normal that they're still able to jump into my traps? Does this mean the spray isn't working?
    A

It is normal to still see fleas after an application of Precor 2000 Plus Premise Spray.  It is not a contact kill after the product has dried, it will take time for a flea to die after contacting a treated surface.

You may have over irritated the fleas if you have applied for 3 days straight.   Typically most flea problems can be handled in 2 treatments, but this depends on how bad the problem is.  You should repeat the treatment exactly 14 days after the first treatment, or 2 weeks, since this is how often flea eggs typically hatch. It is common to have to do 3 or 4 treatments (treating every 2 weeks) over 2 months for bad problems.

    Q
Should I also use Precor 2000 Plus Premise Spray on the beds in my house? Not pet beds.
    A
Precor 2000 Plus Premise Spray can be used on any carpeted areas and upholstered areas.  It can also be applied to a dust skirt around a bed.  You should not apply it to the sheets or pillows directly.  Typically fleas will be down around the floor and dust skirt area.  You can wash the sheets and blankets which will kill any fleas or eggs.

    Q
Should I avoid spraying the carpet with Precor 2000 for fear of skin contact with the spray?
One of the Q/A says not to spray furniture on top so that skin contact is minimized, but what about on carpet where kids will be on the floor? It seems like there would a lot of skin contact on the carpet. Also one Q/A talks about spraying around beds but not on them. How does that kill the fleas on the bed if it's just sprayed on the floor?
    A
The manufacturer has recently updated their product information to "Only complete and proper
application to carpets, upholstery, drapes, and other fabrics will provide thorough flea/tick
elimination. Keep people and pets out of areas during treatment. Vacate room after treatment, and ventilate until surfaces are dry before reoccupying." This new product information means that you could spray the entire piece of upholstered furniture if you wish. Having said that, eggs and pupa will not be found out in the middle of the couch cushion so we would still recommend that you concentrate your application to tufts, folds, voids and crevices as this is where the fleas would be developing. Also, you could spray your mattress if you choose but most folks find that simply vacuuming the mattress will eliminate the fleas on the mattress and that insecticide applications are unnecessary.

    Q
I have a 5 year old and 18 month old. Is Precor 2000 Plus safe for them to touch even after its dry?
My 18 month old likes to put things in her mouth (as most babies do) and even though we try to stop her from doing so there are going to be times where she might drop her pacifier on the carpet and then put it back in her mouth. Even after this product is dry how do you know if it's safe against a child that puts things in their mouth? We have a flea infestation and desperately need a solution.
    A
Precor 2000 Plus is a very safe product when used as directed.  Of course you should remove all toys and items on the floor before treating.  You should remove children from the rooms you are treating or from the house if you are treating the entire house, until the product is completely dry.  After it is dry which usually takes about an hour, it is perfectly safe to allow children and pets back in the treated areas.  Only tiny insects have the capability of coming into contact with such small particles on the carpet fibers.

    Q
What is the best way to kill fleas inside the home where they could be on the carpet?
What is the best way to kill fleas inside the home where they could be on the carpet? I am use to using Talstar P. Could it be used as a mist spray on carpets? What would you consider for fleas on carpets?
    A
Talstar P is not labeled for use as a broadcast spray over carpets. Talstar P can only be used as a crack and crevice application indoors. Precor 2000 or Ultracide would be a good choice for indoor carpeted areas. Precor 2000 and Ultracide come ready to use, no mixing or equipment is needed and they contain both an insecticide for a quick knock down of biting adults and an insect growth regulator for control of developing flea eggs and larvae. Infested areas should be thoroughly vacuumed prior to product applications to help remove as much flea eggs, larvae and debris as possible and also to help stimulate larvae to change stages and come into contact with the product. You should continue to vacuum at least every other day for the next two weeks. Pets should be treated for fleas as well as the areas they spend a lot of time such as pet bed, kennels, carriers, couches, and moist shady areas where they spend time outside. Talstar P can be used with the addition of an insect growth regulator such as Martins IGR for flea control outdoors.

    Q
What kind of respirator you need to apply Precor 2000 Plus?
I am planning to treat my home for fleas myself and worry to get poisoned if I use the product without protection.
    A
Precor 2000 plus does not require a respirator to apply the product unless you are in an enclosed room with no ventilation.  You can open a window of course if you want, but the product does not have a strong odor and you are just applying it on the carpet, it should not be applied in the air where you are breathing.

    Q
Why does the tile and laminate floors feel slippery after application?
We sprayed yesterday and did not come back in the home for 2 hours. The tile floor and laminate floors are very slippery and we can see our footprints where we walk, even today. Is this normal? I feel like the poison is all over our feet and our pets when they lay down on the floor.
    A
It is normal for the product to leave a slight slippery film on the floor as tile/laminate floors are not going to absorb the product like carpet rugs and furniture will. It will not normally be that thick unless it was oversprayed. Also, when treating for fleas they will not normally be in areas where there is no carpeting as they have no areas to hide, harbor or lay eggs. You will need to wipe up the flim the precor left on the laminate floor with a mop or soapy water and a towel to reduce the risk of slipping. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Asked by Lisa from Wheatridge, Co
    01/13/2019
    Q
How long does Precor 2000 Plus Premise Spray to start working?
I have a small apartment and sprayed an entire can in my small living room and another can for rest of house. Fleas are jumping on my feet right after the product has dried.
    A

Precor 2000 Plus Premise Spray is not a contact kill and will leave a residual to kill fleas.  Fleas Treatments take repeat applications every 10-14 days along with consistent vacuuming. You should expect to do at least 3-4 treatments to eradicate fleas in the home. Vacuuming is very important as this will expedite the flea eggs to hatch and come into contact with the insecticide. We suggest vacuuming carpets, rugs, upholstered furniture before each treatment. Discard the vacuum contents immediately in trash bag and place in an outdoor container. In between treatments every 10-14, vacuum daily if possible but at least 3 days a week. Do not treat more than what is recommended on the label. The residual needs time to work and adult fleas that continue to land on the treated areas will be affected, just not instantly. Due to the reproductive cycle of fleas, repeat treatments are required to be able to affect every stage.

One can of Precor 2000 Plus Premise Spray treats 2000 sq feet. It is important to NOT over treat using insecticides as this will hinder your results and not be effective. If you are treating a small apartment, the one can of Precor 20000 Plus Premise spray would be enough to fully treat for at least 2 -3 treatments. You are only spraying until the areas are slightly damp, not saturated. If there are any pets in the home, they will also need to be on topical flea medicine. Please take a moment to review our How to Treat for Fleas Guide

    Q
Is it safe to use the Precor 2000 Plus and the Precor fogger? Which should be used first?
    A
Yes, there should be no issues using the two products together.  We would recommend using the Precor fogger first after a thorough vacuuming.  After you have vacated the home and allowed the fog to dissipate, then the next day you can vacuum again and apply the Precor 2000 Plus to the same areas.  The Precor 2000 Plus should give a longer residual, whereas the Precor fogger will offer a quick knockdown of the exposed fleas once you apply it initially. Vacuuming multiple times before and after treatment is a crucial part of a flea treatment as well.
