    Q
Is there a pre-emergent to prevent foxtail on perennial rye/Kentucky blue turf?
I need to eradicate foxtail (technically a grass) and broadleaf weeds from my turf with the ability to reseed as soon as possible. I have 2-4-D for the broadleaf weeds. Will you suggest a product that allows me to combine to the 2-4-D and your suggested product for a spring and fall application? I would like something that won't stain driveways/walkways. Spring is here and I would like to spray as soon as the ground warms up enough. Thank you for helping me, I really do appreciate it. Returning customer.
    A

Prodiamine 65 WDG can be used to prevent foxtail but you will have to wait at least 4 months before reseeding, as is the case with all pre-emergents for this weed. Quinkill Max could be tank mixed with 2,4-D as directed on the product label.

    Q
Can you plant flowers in beds after using Prodiamine 65 WDG? (Not seeds but plants already blooming?)
I bought this mainly for the rocky area of landscaping around pool where I don't want anything to grow, but if I use it in mulch areas where no plants can I later plant a few flowers or would they die off? Since it specifies things can't germinate I'd imagine flowers are okay after, but wanted to be sure. And if so, should I apply some extra after planing since I would be disturbing the soil "barrier"? Since our winter has been so mild, I also planned on applying earlier than the date on the label since some agricultural websites suggest before Mar 15.... and then I could put another round down in May- does that sound right? Thank you!!
    A

If you are going to be planting in the area you would like to use Prodiamine 65 WDG it would be best to plant first then apply the product so that you are not disturbing the barrier in the soil but applying before planting.  It will only prevent seeds from germinating and is actually labeled to be used in landscape planting.  The label states: Delay application to newly transplanted ornamentals until soil has settled around transplants.

    Q
Is it safe to mix a dandelion killer with Prodiamine 65 WDG?
    If so, what is recommended?
    A

You could mix a post-emergent herbicide or different pre-emergent herbicide with Prodiamine 65 WDG as long as the use sites are compatible, you are not using the same active ingredient in multiple products, and you calibrate the products to be used together. Any time you are mixing products together for the first time, it is recommend to perform a small test mixture first to ensure compatability. Keep in mind that post-emergent control (killing existing weeds) will be most effective when the weeds (in this case, dandelion) are young and actively growing. Another option would be to use a different pre-emergent, such as Dimension 2EW, which also lists Dandelion on the label.

We would need to know more information about your situation in order to recommend a post-emergent product for dandelion, such as where you want to use it (turf, ornamentals, etc.) and how much area you have to cover.

    Q
Pump Sprayer Calibration Needs to Use for Application
What are you looking for when applying the diluted granules for spray pattern from the pump sprayer as the liquid leaves the wand? What does the calibration require on round-up-style pump sprayer or similar? Is the calibration in regards to the use of "mist-style" spray pattern or "stream-style" spray pattern?
    A

Calinbration does not refer to the spray pattern used to apply herbicides. Although, we would recommend using a mist stream. You would calibrate by determining the volume of water required to treat 1,000 square feet. Use this calibration volume to determine the amount of water and Prodiamine 65 WDG herbicide needed to treat the target area (see the following calibration example).

Note: Sprayer calibration (volume of spray needed to treat 1,000 square feet) will vary with each individual operator.

    Steps in Calibration:
    1. Mark an area of 1,000 square feet (i.e. 20 by 50 feet or 25 by 40 feet).
    2. Place the sprayer on a level surface and add water noting the final level of water in the spray tank.
    3. Spray the marked area with a sufficient volume of water to provide uniform coverage. Refill the sprayer to the same level as before measuring the amount of water added. The measured water added to the sprayer is the volume needed to cover 1,000 square feet.
    4. Determine the application rate (fl. oz./1,000 sq. ft.) for Prodiamine 65 WDG from the Recommendations section of this label.
    5. To each volume of water used as measured in step 3, add the amount of Prodiamine 65 WDG as determined in step 4.

Example: If the sprayer uses 2 gallons of water to cover 1,000 square feet and the desired application rate of Prodiamine 65 WDG is 0.185 - 0.055 oz/1,000 square feet, then you would add 0.185 - 0.055 oz of Prodiamine 65 WDG to every 2 gallons of water to be used."

    Q
Can Prodiamine 65 WDG be used with a Boom Sprayer?
5.5 GPM model that goes on the back of an ATV from northern tool? I purchased the boom sprayer and was wondering if it would clog.
    A
Prodiamine 65 WDG will be perfectly fine inside of any sprayer used for herbicides, insecticides, etc. According to the label, a boom sprayer is the best option for use of this product is you are covering a large area. If you are concerned about the product clogging the sprayer, you could mix a small amount inside and see how it sprays.

We apologize, with market pricing the price does fluctuate. Thank you for bringing this to our attention as we are updating our site. The difference is that Prodiamine is considered the generic.

    Q
What is the difference between Prodiamine 65 WDG and WG within the same chemical?
Both products have the chemical Prodiamine but one is labeled "WDG" and the other "WG". Besides the difference in price, is there types of grass incompatibility or others reasons for what they do?
    A
We are assuming you are compaing the two generic forms of the herbicide BarricadeProdiamine 65 WDG and Resolute 65 WG. The only difference between Prodiamine 65 WG and the Resolute 65 WG is that they are made by 2 different manufacturers. They are both contain the same percentage of active ingredient Prodiamine, treat the same pests and applied in the same way. Resolute 65 WG is made by Syngenta (name brand) and Prodiamine 65 WDG is made by Quail-Pro (generic brand) . WG and WDG both stand for Wettable Dispersable Granule, water-dispersible granules must be mixed with water to be applied. Once in water, the granules break apart into fine particles similar to wettable powders.

    Q
    Will Prodiamine kill dandelions?
I don't see dandelions on the label, but the product Weed Impede that contains prodiamine shows a picture of dandelions on the label.
    A
Prodiamine is not labeled for Dandelions, so it is safe to say it will not kill them. You may want to look into Dimension 2EW. It is a pre emergent like Prodiamine, but is labeled for Dandelion and many other types of broadleaf weeds. Just make sure to check the label to verify it is safe for use in your type of lawn.

  • Asked by Benny from Surprise Az
    03/30/2013
    Q
How many teaspoons of Prodiamine 65 WDG per gallon should I use to get a 12 month coverage?
    A
The first thing you need to know when using an herbicide such as Prodiamine 65 WDG is that the exact amount of water you dilute it with is not important. It is only important to make sure you are using the correct amount of product per 1,000 sq ft of lawn. Use too much and you risk damaging your lawn, use too little and you will not get adequate results. You will need to use 0.185-0.55 oz  (1.1 tsp-3.3 tsp) per 1,000 sq ft . To decide how much water you want to use, you should mark a 1,000 sq ft area, fill your sprayer with water ONLY, and start walking and spraying just as if you were doing the actual application of herbicide. When you are done walking and spraying the 1,000 sq ft area note how much water it took you to spray that area, and that is the amount you will want to mix 0.185-.055 oz (1.1 tsp-3.3 tsp) of product with for each 1,000 sq ft area that needs to be treated.

    Q
Does this product come with a measuring tool to measure the fine amount required?
If not what is the best and ACCURATE way to measure it?
    A
The Prodiamine 65 WDG does not come with a measuring device. Most folks buy a cheap set of measuring spoons and use the teaspoon and smaller spoons to measure the correct amount for their needs. Be sure to clearly mark the spoons so they are not used for any other needs.
