Product Overview

Monterey Turflon Ester Herbicide is a selective post-emergent herbicide that is recommended for the control of actively growing bermudagrass, kikuyugrass, and broadleaf weeds in cool season turfgrasses such as fescue, ryegrass, and bluegrass. To use, apply during warm weather, from early spring through fall, when weeds are actively growing. Broadleaf weeds germinate at different times. Only emerged weeds present at the time of application will be controlled. When making applications to mature plants or hard to control species, use higher rates of the herbicide. Application during drought conditions may provide less than desirable results.

APPLICATIONS

Mixing Instructions

Add about one-half the required amount of clean water to the spray tank. Add specified amount of TURFLON ESTER and continue filling the sprayer. For best results, the spray mixture should be well mixed and often. When TURFLON ESTER is mixed with water it forms an emulsion, not a solution; separation may occur unless the spray mixture is agitated continuously.

Tank Mixing

To improve the spectrum of activity, TURFLON ESTER may be tank mixed at a rate of 1/4 to 1/3 fl. oz. in 2 gallons of water per 1,000 square feet with recommended rates of low volatile amine formulations of 2,4-D, MCPP or other labeled post emergent broadleaf herbicides provided the tank mix product is registered for use on ornamental turfgrass (perennial bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, or tall fescue ornamental turfgrass). Refer to the product labels of tank mix products and follow all appropriate use directions, precautions, and limitations. Do not apply this product through any type of irrigation system.

Broadcast Treatment of Ornamental Turfgrass:

Apply 1/3 to 3/4 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. of TURFLON ESTER in enough water to provide uniform coverage of the target area to control actively growing broadleaf weeds growing in perennial bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, or tall fescue. DO NOT use on other turfgrass species unless injury can be tolerated.

Spot Treatment of Ornamental Turfgrass:

Any time broadleaf weeds are susceptible, apply TURFLON ESTER at a rate of 3/8 to 3/4 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. in enough water to provide uniform coverage of the target area. NOTE: DO NOT apply more than 1.5 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. of TURFLON ESTER in a single application.

Control of Kikuyugrass:

Apply TURFLON ESTER at a rate of 1/3 to 3/4 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. in enough water to provide uniform coverage of the target area. Three to four additional applications at 4 to 6 week intervals may be required to achieve control of kikuyugrass.

Control of Bermudagrass:

Apply TURFLON ESTER at the rate of 3/4 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. in enough water to provide uniform coverage of the target area. Three to four additional applications at 4 week intervals are required for adequate suppression of bermudagrass and allow fescue or other desired turfgrass species to dominate.

Additional Information

Do Not use on warm season lawns such as bermudagrass or bentgrass. Avoid spraying when wind is blowing. Spray drift can seriously injure susceptible plants.

    Turflon Ester

    By Shelkey on 10/08/2021

It's the bomb! Waited patiently to see the results. Took all out 6-7 days. Amazing! Thought I'd never kill that invasive burnish grass which I consider a weed. Did not bother my rye grass or the tall fescue in the backyard. Follow directions and you will see results from the first application. Just realize that you will be applying this on a regular 4-week basis during the growing season until your weeds are under control!

Q
Bermuda Grass in Fescue has occurred years before & a year after killing entire yard to left dead for a month.

Bermuda is more apparent in growth during summer till the end of the year. So much, the areas with Bermuda must be mowed higher than rest of Fescue yard, otherwise, it clogs the mower & leaves the yard top color yellowish. In Winter, only a few feet is yellow (color when Bermuda is dormant) as overseeeding with fescue too it back over. Question: Is there a faster method to spray this product instead of using 1-gallon tank on bermunda/fescue combination in a section that is 12ftX16ft? Also, if using a 1-gallon, do I spray area with a very slow pass through or spray for half-second to 2 seconds before spray moves along? Thanks

A

Monterey Turflon Ester Herbicide is best applied to bermuda in the spring when it is just starting to green up and it can take multiple applications.  It should be applied just until the bermudagrass is wet.  For such a small area the 1 gallon would be the easiest way to apply.

Apply TURFLON ESTER at the rate of 3/4 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. in enough water to provide uniform coverage of the target area. Three to four additional applications at 4 week intervals are required for adequate suppression of bermudagrass and allow fescue or other desired turfgrass species to dominate
