    Verified Purchase

I purchased Ferti-Lome on the recommendation of a local landscaper. It applied nicely, but it will take time to know how it worked. Probably not til next spring

    New to this lawn thing...

    By Deadly on 06/30/2020

My lawn was awful. I ordered this stuff and probably didn't follow directions but have a nice lawn on the side I used it on. This work was in late May (2020). 1) I raked to a one or two inch depth and scattered the fertilizer. Wet it good. And then we had some rain for a day or two (not a soaking rain). 2) About a week later, noticed new grass growth where there never was any. 3) Scattered next 5 Star Fescue Grass Seed Blend and watered every day for 7 or so days. It is end of June here in South Jersey and the side of the lawn I worked on looks great.

    Good Starter Fertilizer

    By Quinn on 09/25/2020

I have pretty high phosphorus levels in my soil already so I didn't need a very high phosphorus starter fertilizer. This worked well. My kentucky bluegrass came in nicely in a little over two weeks.

Q
What is the recommended starter fertilizer make up when reseeding in the fall?

This is a tall fescue lawn.

A

You will want to use a starter formulation when putting down new seed to help the new roots establish such as Fertilome New Lawn Starter Fertilizer 9-13-7. After about 4-8 weeks you could then use an organic fertilizer like Espoma Organic All Season Lawn Food. This video in our Do My Own Lawn Care series addresses fertilizing new fescue seed.
