Product Overview

Ranger Pro with 41% Glyphosate (same active ingredient as Roundup) is a complete broad spectrum non-selective post-emergent professional herbicide. Ranger Pro is the generic of Roundup Pro, and is equivalent and just as effective as the name brand, only much less expensive. This generic roundup will kill most weeds and grasses. It is formulated as a water-soluble liquid with surfactant, therefore no additional surfactant is needed. Ranger Pro moves through the plant from the point of foliage contact to and into the root system. It is then absorbed into the soil and breaks down naturally, and therefore will not spread through the ground and kill neighboring plants.

Details

Ranger Pro Herbicide is a non-selective, systemic weed killer that controls a wide range of weeds, grasses, and woody plants by moving from the leaves to the roots, with flexible mixing rates and fast visible results.

Where Can Ranger Pro Herbicide Be Used?

Ranger Pro Herbicide is a non-selective, post-emergent herbicide designed to kill a wide range of annual and perennial weeds, grasses, and woody plants. It is commonly used for:

  • Lawn and landscape weed control
  • Fence lines, driveways, and sidewalks
  • Around buildings and structures
  • Farm and pasture weed management
  • Industrial and non-crop areas

Because it is non-selective, Ranger Pro will kill most vegetation it contacts, so it should not be applied to desirable plants.

What Weeds does Ranger Pro Target?

Ranger Pro contains glyphosate (41%), will kill a broad spectrum of weeds, including:

Annual Weeds:

  • Crabgrass
  • Chickweed
  • Foxtail
  • Pigweed
  • Barnyardgrass

Perennial Weeds:

  • Dandelion
  • Johnson grass
  • Bermudagrass
  • Nutsedge (suppression/control)
  • Plantain

Woody Brush & Vines:

  • Poison ivy
  • Kudzu
  • Blackberry
  • Honeysuckle

It works by moving systemically through the plant from the leaves to the root system, ensuring complete kill when used properly.

What is the Mixing Ratio for Ranger Pro Herbicide Per Gallon of Water?

The mixing rate for Ranger Pro depends on the type and toughness of the weeds being treated:

  • Light/annual weeds: ~2/3 fl oz per gallon of water
  • General weed control: 1–2 fl oz per gallon
  • Tough perennial weeds or brush: up to 13 fl oz per gallon

For most homeowners treating common weeds, 1–2 oz per gallon is typically effective. Always follow the product label instructions for the most accurate mixing rates based on your specific application.

How Long Does Ranger Pro Take to Work?

Ranger Pro begins working immediately after application, but visible results take time:

  • Annual weeds: visible wilting and yellowing in 2–4 days
  • Perennial weeds: effects may take 7 days or longer

The herbicide works by traveling to the roots, so full plant death may take 1–2 weeks, depending on conditions.

When is the Best Time to Apply Ranger Pro?

For best results, apply Ranger Pro when:

  • Weeds are actively growing
  • Temperatures are above 60°F
  • No rain is expected for at least 6–24 hours
  • Plants have healthy, green foliage

Avoid applying during cool, cloudy weather, as this can slow results. For best performance, apply Ranger Pro when weeds are actively growing and at the proper stage:

  • Annual weeds: easiest to control when small and young
  • Perennial weeds: best treated at late growth stages when they are nearing maturity

If weeds are dense, overgrown, or in undisturbed areas, use a higher labeled rate for improved control.

Will Ranger Pro Kill Grass and Desirable Plants?

Yes. Ranger Pro is a non-selective herbicide, meaning it will kill:

  • Grass
  • Weeds
  • Flowers
  • Shrubs (if contacted)

Use caution when applying near desirable vegetation and consider using a targeted spray method.

How Does Ranger Pro Herbicide Work?

Ranger Pro is a systemic herbicide, meaning it is absorbed through the foliage and transported throughout the plant. It:

  1. Enters through leaves
  2. Moves into the root system
  3. Disrupts essential plant functions
  4. Causes gradual wilting, yellowing, and death

This process ensures complete elimination, including the roots, which helps prevent regrowth.

How Long Does Ranger Pro Herbicide Need Before Rain?

Ranger Pro should be applied when no rain is expected for at least 6 hours.

  • Minimum rainfast period: 6 hours
  • Ideal conditions: 24 hours without rain for maximum effectiveness

Heavy rain shortly after application may wash the product off and require a repeat treatment.

Can Ranger Pro Be Used for Large Property or Commercial Applications?

Yes. Ranger Pro is widely used by:

  • Homeowners
  • Landscapers
  • Farmers
  • Property managers

Its high glyphosate concentration (41%) makes it a cost-effective solution for large-scale weed control.

How Quickly Will I See Results After Applying Ranger Pro Herbicide?

Ranger Pro works by moving from the foliage into the root system, so results are gradual rather than immediate. After application, plants will begin to wilt and yellow, eventually turning completely brown as both above ground and underground parts die.

  • Annual weeds: symptoms typically appear within 2–4 days
  • Perennial weeds: may take 7 days or more

Cool or cloudy weather can slow the herbicide’s activity and delay visible results.

What Conditions Can Reduce the Effectiveness of Ranger Pro?

Certain environmental and plant conditions can reduce herbicide performance, including:

  • Weeds under stress from drought, disease, or insects
  • Leaves covered in dust or debris
  • Poor growing conditions (slow or inactive growth)
  • Recently mowed, grazed, or cut weeds without sufficient regrowth

For best results, allow weeds to fully regrow and actively grow before applying.

    Killing grass

    By John on 07/16/2010

    Verified Purchase

First of all, ordering this product was VERY easy and speedy. We used one and a half gallons for about an acre and a quarter. It worked beyond expectation. We checked after a week and the grass and weeds were all brown and dead. Our ratio was a quart to 24 gallons. We used a sprayer mounted on a 4-wheeler. We are extremely pleased.

    Basically a "generic" Round Up

    By John on 03/31/2011

    Verified Purchase

Shipping and packaging were without any problems. Entire transaction was very professional. The product is a very affordable version of Round Up. Round Up Pro is a 48.7% concentration where as Ranger Pro is 41%. The price advantage of Ranger Pro is 2.5 gallons for less than one gallon of Round Up Pro. The 41% is more than adequate for killing off virtually everything.

Q
What ratio per gallon of Ranger Pro should the average homeowner mix to control normal weed growth?

I've been using roundup concentrate in the past, at @ 3 oz. per gallon in my sprayer. I've just tried out Ranger Pro at @ the same ratio, but it doesn't appear to work the same. By all accounts, this is the same product under a different name. Should I be expecting the same results?

A
Ranger Pro is comparable to Round Up but each manufacturer does have their own recommended usage rates. Ranger Pro moves through the plant from the point of foliage contact to and into the root system. Visible effects are a gradual wilting and yellowing of the plant, which advances to complete browning of above ground growth and deterioration of underground plant parts. Effects are visible on most annual weeds within 2 to 4 days, but on most perennial weeds, effects may not be visible for 7 days or more. Extremely cool or cloudy weather following treatment may slow activity of this product and delay development of visual symptoms. The amount of Ranger Pro Herbicide you will use per gallon of water will vary from 2/3 fl oz - 13 fl oz per gallon of water depending on what type of plant you are trying to eliminate. Please refer to the Ranger Pro product label for exact usage instructions.

A

The product label for Ranger Pro Herbicide does not specify a certain amount of time but it does say that heavy rain soon after application may require a repeat application. You just want to make sure you have at least 6 hours of dry weather after you apply Ranger Pro to ensure its absorbed and not washed away, but up to 24 hours with dry weather is ideal for maximum uptake.

Q
I want to kill everything but my Bermuda in my yard how do you mix the Ranger Pro.
A

Ranger Pro is a non selective post emergent herbicide and it will kill just about any type of vegetation that it is sprayed on so we would not advise for you to use on your lawn.

Our most popular general weed control product that is selective, meaning it will not harm your turf grass but it will kill your broadleaf weeds, is End Run. End Run is labeled for just about any weed you could have and will not harm your grass.  Best of all, it comes with a surfactant already mixed in the product so you do not have to purchase and mix a surfactant separately like you do with most of the other herbicides that we sell.
