Details

Recognition Herbicide is a selective post-emergent herbicide that controls more than 40 broadleaf weeds, including major sedges, dollarweed, clover, and other hard-to-control weeds in warm-season turfgrass. Featuring the proprietary safener metcamifen, Recognition provides outstanding turf safety on St. Augustinegrass, zoysiagrass, buffalograss, and kikuyugrass while delivering powerful weed control.

Recognition Herbicide can also be tank mixed with products like Fusilade II Herbicide and Turflon Ester Ultra for faster, broader-spectrum control, including the unique ability to safely remove Bermudagrass from established St. Augustinegrass and zoysiagrass lawns.

What is Recognition Herbicide used for?

Recognition Herbicide is a post-emergent herbicide designed for selective weed control in warm-season turfgrass. It is commonly used to control tough grassy and broadleaf weeds, including sedges, dollarweed, clover, crabgrass, and other difficult-to-manage weeds in established turf.

Recognition is especially valued for use in sensitive warm-season grasses where other herbicides may cause injury.

Where can Recognition Herbicide be used?

Recognition Herbicide can be applied to established warm-season turfgrass in residential and commercial areas, including:

  • Home lawns
  • Golf courses
  • Sod farms
  • Sports fields
  • Commercial landscapes

It is labeled for use on several warm-season turf types, including:

  • St. Augustinegrass
  • Zoysiagrass
  • Bermudagrass
  • Centipedegrass
  • Buffalograss
  • Seashore paspalum

Always verify your turfgrass species on the product label before application.

How do you use Recognition Herbicide?

Recognition Herbicide should be applied as a foliar spray to actively growing weeds. For best results:

  • Apply to healthy, established turfgrass
  • Spray when weeds are young and actively growing
  • Ensure even coverage across the target area
  • Avoid mowing immediately before or after application
  • Do not apply to stressed turf during extreme heat, drought, or cold conditions

Recognition is commonly tank mixed with a methylated seed oil (MSO) or approved surfactant to improve weed control and herbicide uptake.

Always follow the full product label for application timing, turf tolerance, and weed-specific instructions.

What is the mixing rate for Recognition Herbicide per gallon of water?

The amount of Recognition Herbicide mixed per gallon of water depends on the target weed, turfgrass type, and treatment area size.

Application rates are generally measured per acre or per 1,000 square feet rather than strictly per gallon of water. The water volume used should provide thorough and even coverage of the treatment area.

For the most accurate mixing instructions:

  • Refer to the product label for weed-specific rates
  • Measure the treatment area before mixing
  • Use calibrated spray equipment for accurate application

Should a surfactant be used with Recognition Herbicide?

Yes, Recognition Herbicide typically performs best when used with a surfactant or methylated seed oil (MSO) as directed on the label.

Using the recommended adjuvant helps:

  • Improve spray coverage
  • Increase herbicide absorption into weeds
  • Enhance control of difficult or mature weeds

Be sure to use only label-approved surfactants and follow all mixing instructions for your specific application.

How long does it take Recognition Herbicide to work?

Weeds treated with Recognition Herbicide may begin showing symptoms such as yellowing, stunting, or discoloration within 1 to 3 weeks after application. Complete control may take longer depending on:

  • Weed species
  • Weather conditions
  • Weed maturity
  • Application timing

Some difficult weeds may require a follow-up treatment for optimal control.

Can Recognition Herbicide be used on St. Augustinegrass?

Yes, Recognition Herbicide is commonly used on established St. Augustinegrass and is one of the preferred options for controlling weeds in this turf type due to its excellent turf safety when used as directed.

Always follow label instructions regarding turfgrass tolerance and application rates.

What makes Recognition Herbicide different from other lawn herbicides?

Recognition Herbicide is specifically formulated for use on warm-season turfgrass and offers excellent selectivity with strong control of difficult weeds that are challenging to manage with standard herbicides.

Features of Recognition include:

  • Broad-spectrum weed control
  • Excellent turf safety on sensitive warm-season grasses
  • Control of sedges, broadleaf weeds, and grassy weeds

Flexible use in residential and commercial turf areas

    Excellent weed control

    By Jacob on 08/01/2024

I manage a commercial landscape company that specializes in high-end residential properties. Recognition has been a staple in our herbicide rotation and selection for weed control. Combine this herbicide with Fusilade II for excellent Bermuda grass control in St. Augustine Grass and Zoysia Grass. It works very well on Crabgrass, Dallisgrass, and others as well. It can be combined with other herbicides as well to have very effective control.

    Bermuda Grass Control

    By Darwin on 04/16/2025

For those like me that hate bermuda grass invading their St. Augustine (or Zoysia) lawn this is the answer. Recognition mixed at the rate of .85 grams per gallon with Fusilade II at the rate of.55 fl oz per gallon, your bermuda grass will die within weeks. I actually saw great results in one week with no harm to my St. Augustine. I'm pretty sure this will be an annual treatment but worth it in my opinion. Be sure to use a surfactant.

Finally! Zoysia lawn free of bermuda!

    By Erik on 06/11/2025

After 10+ years of trying all the usual methods (including the turflon/fusillade approach) to getting my neighbor's lousy common bermuda from invading my Zoysia lawn, Recognition + Fusillade II is the first combo that absolutely knocked it out on the first try. It was slow acting, but by the 20 day mark, all the bermuda throughout the lawn (and there was even more than I thought) was yellow, white, and my Zoysia was already moving in an taking back over. This stuff is the real deal.
