    Q
Number of traps per house- says only 2 but I have 3 floors, and still have moths in basement.
Help please! manufacturer says "2 traps per house" but instructions say "put in closet". Can I use one per floor in a 3 floor house so 3 total, without having too much pheromone and confusing them? I still have some moths in the basement but upstairs is better! Also, doesn't putting them in closets lure them INTO the closet? thanks!
    A
The pheromone traps can be used wherever you have an issue, its just that a closet is normally the most common place.  One trap per floor is perfectly fine.  You just don't want much more than that per level because it can confuse the moths.

    Q
What is the best product to use for clothes moths?
I have a clothes moth problem, but I don't think it is the web type moth. I don't see any webs anywhere. Any ideas on what I should use?
    A

You most likely do not see any webbing because you have not found the source of the infestation. Use a ProPest Clothes Moth Trap in the area to monitor if they are clothes moths.  If they are, then you should keep this product hanging to capture new ones and monitor the situation. You must find the source of the infestation (wool or other organic fabrics) and either clean it thoroughly or discard the infested item.  You should also use a crack and crevice aerosol to treat under and around baseboards and door frames where the larvae hang out.  We recommend using D-Force HPX Aerosol for treatment of these areas.

    Q
What is a treatment for moth eating fabric in stored clothes in drawers and closets.
    A
You will need to inspect the area and clean and/or discard infested items. You will then need to spray the corners and cracks and crevices of the drawers and closets with a product such as Cy-Kick Aerosol. We also recommend using a moth trap such as the Propest Clothes Moth Trap to help you monitor the moth infestation and retreat if necessary.

    Q
Is ProPest Clothes Moth Traps and the one for cracks pet/cat safe?
    A
The Propest Clothes Moth trap is safe for use in a home with cats as long as you place or hang the trap out of reach of cats. While the traps are not toxic to animals they are sticky and a cat could get stuck to the trap. If this should happen vegetable oil will be needed to remove the trap from the animal. Our crack and crevice sprays are also safe for use around animals. Be sure your pets are out of the area while you are applying the product and they can return to the area as soon as it is dry.

    Q
    Moths are eating our clothing.
We've use X-lure moth traps in the past but then I accidently ordered pantry moth traps. We really don't have pantry moths but I hoped they would work. What is the best clothing moth trap for our closets?
    A
The Pro Pest Clothes Moth trap is our most popular seller. It is important to remember that the clothing moth traps only lure and trap the adult male moth so the traps should only be used as part of your clothing moth control program.  It is very important to find the infested items and get them cleaned or thrown away to achieve complete control. It may also be helpful to you to read our How to Get rid of Clothes Moths article.

    Q
Can I put cedar chips or other moth repellants in the same closet?
I want to put this trap in a closet. Is it ok to put cedar chips or other moth repellants in the same closet? Also, is one trap enough for a 2,400 sq flat with 8 rooms, considering the fact that it'll be in a closet? I'm not sure the infestation is in that closet but that's where I have valuable stuff and I also see the moths there. Can you help me figure out what to use and what not to and how much of each?
    A
By putting moth balls or cedar chips into the same area as the ProPest Clothes Moth Trap you could cause a situation where you would cover up the pheromone of the trap and stop the moths from entering it. If the closet is already infested with clothes moths it is very doubtful that moth balls or cedar chips would be helpful. You need to completely clean the closet out and clean or get rid of infested items. Apply one or two pheromone traps for the entire home to remove the male moths from the breeding pool and to monitor the infestation. Failure to find the actual infested items will lead to a prolonged infestation. Please take a few moments to read our article How to Get Rid of Clothes Moths to learn more about how to eliminate this pest.

    Q
I found the eggs and larvae of webbing cloth moths in my acrylic sweaters. I'm using Propest traps. Would washing and drying them in a dryer be good enough or should I take them to a dry cleaner?
    A

We normllay recommend that you discard any clothing that shows signs of cloth moths if possible.  If not, dry cleaning is preferred.  You may want to look over our Cloth Moth Guide for more information.

    Q
We purchased ProPest Clothes Moth Trap and were wondering how long it should take for moths to be trapped?
    A

ProPest Clothes Moth Trap should start working within a few hours after placing them if there are adults in the area.  Be sure to use no more than 2  traps in the home at one time to prevent oversaturation of the pheronomes.

    Q
What's the difference between a Webbing and a Case making moth. We think ours came in with some corn meal.
    A

If you suspect the moth came into your structure in corn meal, you may have a species of pantry moth not a web or case making moth (you will find damage to clothing or rugs etc). Please discard any items that have been infested and store all other pantry items in air tight containers. We carry a Pantry Pest Kit that will be great for treatment but we recommend that you get the moth properly identified. Please contact your local extension office for a proper id of the insect first.

We apologize, this could be a number of pest. Is there anyway you can take a clear picture and send it to us? It sound like it could be clothes moths. Please review our Clothes Moth control page. Any clothing or fabric that has larvae in them should be discarded if at all possible.

  • Asked by Jo from Reston, Va

    Q
Hi, which of your products would be best for getting rid of clothes moths?
They've already snacked on some of my good wool clothing.
    A

Clothes moth larvae need the Vitamin B found in soilage to survive. That is why clean garments are far less likely to suffer clothes moth damage.  The best prevention for clothes moth damage is vacuuming the home refularly and cleaning woolen garments before storing them in airtight containers.

    • All fabric pests need higher humidity to survive, so air conditioning and heating help to lower humidity to deter infestations.

    • Dry cleaning is a very effective method of clothes moth control because it kills all stages of fabric pests.

    • Beat and brush woolens and like materials once or twice a month to dislodge or crush eggs and young larvae.

    • Inspect areas where larvae may feed, such as along edges of carpeting, under furniture, and in folds of stored clothing.

    • ProPest Clothes Moths Traps come with a virtually odorless pheromone pack to attract moths.  A safe and easy way to monitor and reduce a population.

    • You can spray a broad-spectrum liquid insecticide such as Suspend SC around the perimeter of rooms and closets and in cracks and crevices.

    • A dust such as Tempo Dust can be applied to heavily infested areas which cannot be reached with a liquid spray. Dusts should not be used directly on clothing or areas which will come in direct contact with skin.

    Q
I'm pregnant. Is it safe to use the ProPest Clothes Moth Trap?
What about your other sprays and powders? Is it safe to use them around children as well as pregnant women?
    A

The ProPest Clothes Moth Traps do not contain any harmful chemicals or release fumes that would harm people, including pregnant woman.  For spray and dust products, people must be kept out of the area during application and until all products have settled/dried.  After that point it is safe to return.

    Q
What is the range that your product will attract the moths?
I live in a high rise and some units have moths. I have not seen any in my unit but want to make sure. However, I do not want to attract moths from the hall or other units. How far away will the moths sense your product?
    A
The manufacturer does not spefically provide a range of distance in which the ProPest Clothes Moth Trap will lure moths. Although, only 1-2 traps are recommended her household. We doubt that the ProPest Clothes Moth Trap will lure moths from the outside of your unit but will ensure that they are trapped shoukld they enter your home.

    Q
Is the ProPest Clothes Moth Trap a good choice to get rid of varied carpet beetles as well?
I did a search for "varied carpet beetle phereomone traps" and the ProPest product came up as an option. In reading actual product descriptions, there is no mention of helping catch the beetles, so I wanted to find out if this was a good choice for them or if there's another product. While there are a few moths at home, the beetles are what I find creeping around more often. Also, I am looking for one that is non-toxic to pets, as I have a cat. Any advice would be really appreciated!
    A
No, ProPest Pheronet Clothes Moth Traps are labeled for clothes moths only. We do have a product that is labeled for varied carpet beetles called Varied Carpet Beetle Kit. Put the pheromone lure inside the trap and fold the trap's bottom following the dotted lines. Install traps anywhere from shelves to floors where carpet beetles are.

  • Asked by Lynn from Montclair, Nj

    Q
How effective would ProPest Clothes Moth Traps be to use in my garage near the clothes rack? Where is the best place to put the traps and how many do I use? Will using the traps draw moths to areas where I have not seen moth activity?
I've seen occasional moth flying around and had to get rid of quite a few sweaters. I also have carpet beetles.
    A

ProPest Clothes Moth Trap will work on webbing clothes moths by attracting the males to the trap. It is recommended to to hang the trap with a hook, hanger, string, zip tie or secured to a wall or other surface with double-sided tape or zip ties. You will use NO more than 2 traps per home. Using more moth traps will confuse the moths by overwhelming the area with phermone. If you are unsure if you have webbing clothes moths or casemaking clothes moths, this would be the 1st step in your treatment. You may read our How to Get Rid of Clothes Moths Article for identifcation and treatment tips. We would also recommend consulting with the local cooperative extension office in your county for a postitve id.

In order to successfully treat for Clothes Moths, the ProPest Clothes Moth Traps need to be used with a crack and crevice insectide like Suspend SC or aerosol like Cy-Kick CS. Suspend SC can also be used for Carpet Beetle control and is applied the same way, as a crack and crevice spray. Please read our Carpet Beetle Control Article for full details on products and treament applications.

    Q
I live in a two-flat apartment building. If we have two ProPest Clothes Moth Traps, will it confuse the moths if my neighbors upstairs, also have a moth trap?
    A

We would recommend that you start with placing out a single ProPest Clothes Moth Trap in the apartment where there is the highest activity and leave for 4-6 weeks or until full and then replace with the other trap.
